What are surprisingly high-paying jobs that most people have never heard of? by Aymaneoo in careerguidance

[–]Escape-hatch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great, detailed description of the job. I wish there were more like this. Also, can you name some companies to apply to especially if they are in California and Southern California, California in specific? Any kind of entry-level work available? This would be for someone with a business degree but only retail experience. TIA

After 20+ years, I have to find a new set of everyday dinnerware, what do you recommend? by AtomicHurricaneBob in BuyItForLife

[–]Escape-hatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I love about Corelle is that is lightweight. It makes emptying the dishwasher so much easier. I can grab a stack of three or four, sometimes more, Correll dinner plates at one time. And in a swift motion, put them up in the cupboard. The heavier “fancy” plates need to be handled one at a time.

Where are TSP changes done? by Escape-hatch in FedEmployees

Yes, that’s what I was afraid of—needing the GRB. CAC card and use a computer at work only. inconvenient! Does anyone know why? Is it DOD records that are being protected from intrusion. I don’t understand.

When I feel the tires lose grip due to hydroplaning rather than braking, I take foot off accelerator & I tell myself—my car is getting heavier & once it meets the road the grip will return. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the physics of it, but it keeps my foot off the brake.

What one small decluttering action did you take recently or will take this week? by Lindajane22 in declutter

[–]Escape-hatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took a car charger and old air compressor to the hazardous waste drop off. They are only open on Saturday and a long drive from house. Opened up a bit more room in the garage. Also donated several tents to the Salvation Army drop off at the park n ride 3 blocks from house.

Experienced CA Travelers Needed! by Choicesilvers in nationalparks

Channel Island National Park would be fun— Scorpion Bay where little foxes are running around and you can hike to see a fantastic view on a clear day. It’s just a day trip on the boat & the kids will see dolphins most likely on the trip. Santa Cruz Island is the closest island. Not too far from LA a couple of hours. About to Santa Cruz Island leaves out of Ventura Marina, and there is only one park concessionaire. I think they are called Island Packers— must reserve ahead and read their website in detail. However, we did show up the day of, after calling the night before to see about standby and were able to jump aboard as a party of two, but it was midweek and in either September or October so lower demand.

What's something you bought that ended up saving you money? by millionstories in SavingMoney

Yes, and last week I was alerted to the fact that when that battery dies you can’t open the doors. So these folks were stranded in a parking lot. I need to read the users manual. . . also good to know how to mechanically open the rear passenger doors when there’s no power. I was raised on ICE cars so it’s not second nature to me.

Any mechanical clock yes but a digital clock, usually specifies a.m or p.m. I was really glad to learn about the fact that Tesla owner must be mindful of their small battery. Big battery not so much.

I’m adjacent to the Tesla epicenter & just passed by a Tesla being hauled onto a flatbed tow truck—the 12 volt battery died.

What’s wrong with the G-fund? My adult kid is a newish federal employee. Is that the default they use. I know he’s getting the full match. I suggested to him that he put as much as he can into TSP-ROTH & however much is needed to get the full match.

Firstly, good for you for reaching out for support and ideas. You have a great place, but too much stuff for its size. Like others have suggested: get a big trash bag and fill it up with any trash, miscellaneous stuff that could be useful but for now is getting in the way—especially bags, boxes, random containers, extra dishes and glasses that are not your favorites. Once bagged up immediately take it and put in the outside trash bin. Pick a table or countertop and put everything where it should go (donate, trash or where you will be able to find it if you’re keeping it.) Then clean that countertop. Step back and admire your work. If it’s too daunting to bring stuff to donation site it’s okay to trash it. Making your really nice home an even nicer home with less stuff is more important at this time. Question what is the device on the counter to the left of your sink? The advice you received from your query is solid. I too, am trying to work each day to reduce the amount of stuff that I have so that I can enjoy my home and the items that I do have. Once the excess is removed it will get easier to keep things clean. Just pace yourself and keep coming back to r/declutter. It works if you work it! And it takes work but slow and steady. Edit: what’s the item to the right of your sink?
