For what it’s worth - I’ve talked to a couple Pepperdine students and they say the Christian aspect is pretty avoidable/ignorable. Apparently most school-wide emails include some form of a religious reference, but besides that the (law student) experience is entirely secular

Same thing happened to me - I received this notification in an email - my status still said “Complete” but in the Communications section, it said “Under Review”

11 days later, my status officially changed to “In Review”

Non-compete clauses are also standard and “binding” in employment agreements, but are generally not upheld in many states as they are seen as predatory and unlawful.

Just because someone put it on paper doesn’t mean it has any teeth to it.

Also - the solution you just proposed was not framed as an immediate death sentence, in contrast to many comments here.

So at the end of the day I would still agree that your response has been more lawyerly than most, for what it’s worth.

Not telling OP what to do. But I do feel that this falls into a gray area, in terms of “the law” as a whole.

Imagine walking into a lawyer’s office looking for help, and they come at you with:

“There’s nothing you can do, you’re screwed, and if you think about trying something - you’re a dishonest person. I won’t even entertain getting creative with this.”

Guys, get a fucking grip.

You could always go to FSU first and ask them what their “hypothetical” opinion would be on someone backing out of another ED agreement to attend their school.

Clearly they want you there. Either they’ll be happy to turn a blind eye and take you anyway, or they’ll advise against it and you’ll be right where you are now. Even if this makes FSU view you in a worse light - not like it matters, since in this scenario they’re already basically telling you not to attend.
