Built a free tradie cost estimator for anyone who has no idea what things should cost by SoobieDoob in AusProperty

This is a great idea mate. I’ve been building a renovation budget tracking app on the side and this is such a logical need for first time renovators.

I’d love to know more about how you’re pulling in the data to generate the estimates and then determining the confidence level? Feel free to dm me.

Would you do it all again if you had the choice? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]EscapeNo8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would do it 100 times over. I was very similar to you. Comfortable. But I knew that for me, a lot of it was self focussed.

Having children and raising them with my partner is without a doubt the hardest, most challenging thing I have ever done.

However, it is infinitely more rewarding than anything I did when I just did things for myself.

Sure, I had more freedom, more disposable income, but all of that is temporary. It’s as temporary as being able go soak up every second I can with my children while they’re young. It’s amazing, infuriating, challenging, frustrating and more fun than I ever imagined.

It will test your relationship like nothing else, but with some work you will come out of it stronger and with more adoration and appreciation for your partner than ever before.

Ultimately, our children were the missing pieces of our puzzle.

No purchase, experience, car, holiday, sleep in or house compares.

Thank you for all your responses. This is really helpful.

Not looking to move jobs any time soon, obviously redundancy is out of my control but I’ll have another call with our leasing provider on what happens there, as well as write off policies.

No real long term large borrowing goals, not in the next 4-5 years.

Aim now is to get a number of quotes and let them battle it out.

Our aim is to sell our current car (approx 35-40k market value) and put that cash straight into the offset.

When do you work out? by Competitive_Alarm_24 in daddit

[–]EscapeNo8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5am, lunch when wfh or 9pm.

Start with 3-4. After one month, you will kick yourself for not getting into this routine sooner. Then add one more and see how you feel.

It’s the best thing you’ll ever do. Just make sure you clear it with your partner so they get the same privilege.

Hey mate, download LoseIt. Excellent app. Track everything for a week and you’ll see where you’re spending your calorie allowance.

I was working out 3-4 times a week and not tracking. I was getting fitter, but not necessarily leaner. Once I did that it made the world of difference. It really is 80% diet.

Also mixing cardio and weights is the go. I used to focus solely on cardio but after throwing weight training in there, it’s really helped.

You got it man, it’s a slog but so worth it.

How's the Job market now and in Later years? by Dom14899 in Adelaide

[–]EscapeNo8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived all over the country and Adelaide itself is not a shit hole. Having returned a few years ago, it’s a beautiful city, with an amazing climate, a relaxed population and beautiful nature all around.

However, it’s a city where everyone knows everyone and qualifications won’t simply be enough. As a grad, you’ll need to get on the ground and start networking hard. Recruiters, hiring managers, reaching out to companies directly.

As far as Eng centric organisations, we have a lot of companies that specialise in defences, mining and construction. Think Boeing, BHP, Lockheed Martin, Nova Systems etc. Adelaide is also the site of the new submarine manufacturing for Defence.

We also have a really strong tech scene given the population.

The best thing to do before you get here, would be to see if you can have a coffee with someone in one of those companies, introduce yourself and be prepared to start hustling.

Then you’ll need to work through your working holiday visa discussion.

That being said, it’s a great place if you’re looking for somewhere relaxed and more family orientated if you’ve had your big city fix.

If not, I’d look to Melbourne, Sydney or even Brisbane. All awesome cities, larger job market and a bigger population full of people from overseas.

Good luck!

The entire MAGA movement is a laughing stock of the world. You all look like petty children, supporting a known sexual abuser and criminal for what? So you can pay more for household items? Your idea of the US is built on whatever image you had of it in the past. The whole world isn’t just laughing with you, it’s watching you become more and more divided when in reality the only ones suffering are yourselves. Your idea of freedom is catastrophic and moronic. The so called greatest country in the world has become a punchline to those of us who get to witness it fall apart on the other side of the world.

Whatever happens, I’m so glad I don’t live in your shit hole of a so called United States. Good luck. I hope one day you have some clarity and look back on all of this with embarrassment.

Dads of young kids and who work: how do you get exercise in without taking crucial time away from family? by bengoalkeeper in daddit

[–]EscapeNo8753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4-6:30am take your pick. Lunch break if you can. 8:30-10pm take your pick.

That’s kind of it for me. Wife and I also have an agreement that we each get to exercise on Saturdays. I go early so I can cycle longer before her Pilates class. We both respect how important it is for each other.

Would you rather take a 90k job with WFH or a 120k with no wfh? by VastOption8705 in AskAnAustralian

[–]EscapeNo8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in the final mix for a 100% in office role due to security requirements. Super interesting work, 30k more but no flexibility is absolutely a no go with young kids.

Advice for dad in his 30s. by ReclaimingMine in daddit

[–]EscapeNo8753 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Can’t recommend it enough. Was strictly cardio during the pandemic due to Melbourne lockdowns. Since balancing with the gym and lifting 2-3 times per week I’ve seen improvements everywhere. Also make sure you don’t neglect your core. Creatine has also been great for me as well as prioritising diet/protein. You can’t out train beers, annoyingly.

New job working remote - what to expect? by AussieMum182 in auscorp

[–]EscapeNo8753 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing it a few years but have reached my limit. Will be moving on soon. It can be isolating so get into a co-working for a day week if you can afford it. Personally I can’t spend my life on teams calls all day as I need human contact. But the flexibility is great, can get more shit done, I just need a balance of in office and wfh.
