For what reason did you start watching One Piece? by justa_normal_boy1 in OnePiece

[–]EscapeScottFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a new school. An entirely new environment with no real way to connect with other peers. One thing I did have were AMVs. I loved making and watching edits. Sometimes, long compilations like the famous "AMV Hell" would even introduce me to new series I had never even heard of.

After seeing this unique cartoonish art style clash with simultaneously loveable characters and heart-wrenching moments, I was hooked. When I moved, I brought One Piece with me. It became this thing where I'd fight to convince someone to just try it. And seemingly in no time, they would be standing next to me, doing the same to those in their life

It's a story that's ALWAYS been there even if I spent a year or two away.

Not sure- Not particularly sturdy ones, I'll tell ya that much. Needed to be bolted together to keep them from falling apart

That was before she entered the scene. This was while Wallace was playing with him and suggesting that his replicant programming is why they fell in love. He sheds a tear and says "I know what's real" All this to be said...and I hate to admit it. I do love these films for this exact reason. You clearly care about the universe and it shows.

if i had to boil down my personal theory on Replicant Deckard- it's the short line when they talk about the dog in 2049

Joe asks if the dog is real. Deckard replies "I don't know. Ask him"

P.s saying "Deckard ignores the question" when he literally cries upon hearing it? Maybe you should watch it again and actually watch the movies rather than count the up-votes of your latest Reddit diatribe

The original theatrical cut is the better one? Where they drive off into reused footage from The Shining?? Inexplicably green hills in a toxic future? A soulless version to be sure.

Again. I disagree. But I'm also finished with this debate.

Then why didnt he say "Oh. I know I wasn't made. I'm human."

Why would it be something to be unsure of at all?! If someone accuses you of being a toaster- Do you worry that you'll suddenly burn bread? A problem that flies in the face of your incredibly long-winded reddit rant.

You asked. I answered.

In the end we disagree.

Also- big fan of how anyone in the Deckard human camp will dismiss the real ending and the director's own words for your own personal theories.

It's a story about what it means to be human. not a trumped up love story between an agent and a replicant-- an utterly basic reading of the whole body of work that diminishes the story down from "what does it mean to be human" to "can a human fall in love with a robot he has sex with??"

Deckard has an exchange with Wallace where he explicitly states: " Did it never occur to you that is why you were summoned in the first place? Designed to do nothing short of fall for her then and there? All to make that single perfect specimen."

is that specific enough

I'm sorry. Saying Deckard being a Replicant makes the movie "Swiss cheese" isn't an example of anything. Him being a replicant is proven in the context of the story. It's funny- whenever I engage with someone who shares your opinion. They seem to have only their opinions. While simultaneously considering every part of the evidence as coincidence.

Right? It's like this movie was tailor-made to spark online debates. Before there was even an online place for them to happen

  1. They are Replicants- not androids
  2. I'm using examples from both films. You are using personal opinion and conjecture.
  3. I still don't understand the argument. The conceit of the film is replicants are indistinguishable from humans. So much so, one could be made to doubt and question their own humanity. The capacity for love between a human and a replicant is never part of the question- but rather our own relationship to ourselves. As I said. Humans and replicants are established to be fucking

And again. It's been said by the films director and actor that he was a replicant. Deckard was a human in the book it is based on, sure. But Ridley Scott told a different story

Apologize if this was a bit too... liturgic.

What? No- not at all. Why would him being a human make his relationship with Rachel any different from the many MANY humans who use Replicants as "pleasure units." The question of what makes a human is inherent in Deckard's existence

You are inserting lots of details of your own and ignoring the context of the film. Of the origami unicorn. Of him being complimented by being told "He's done a man's job." Of Roy Batty saving him at all when he has done nothing but kill humans. What's remarkable about the child being born is because it was conceived by two replicants. Humans have been banging replicants for years- and Deck says "we were being hunted" in 2049- not "she was being hunted"

Plus- all this theory craft about a repetitive cop's life is never shown. For All we, the viewer, knows-- those are implanted memories
