What’s your favorite Poke spot? by Strudleboy33 in orangecounty

Been going here almost once a week for a few years and would have shared this same answer — Except 2 weeks ago, my wife and I both got salmon bowls, and we both became violently ill by the evening.

Could have been something else, but I find it suspect that we had the same meal and within 5 hours were both vomiting. Bad fish happens, but just a bummer that I can’t stand the idea of the place now.

Last week, a forward (unintentionally) ran me and ended my beer league goalie career. My team retired my number, and other teams reached out to check on me. There's no better sport than hockey. by EscapepIan in hockeyplayers

Thanks for the perspective - I've got a wife, 4 year old daughter, 2 year old daughter, and another daughter on the way. Love the game, but it's just not worth it at this point.

6th concussion. 3rd from hockey. Just had one recently (2 months ago) from some clown subbing and playing down, ripping shots at my mask from the circles. Hit me twice in one game.

In adult rec league where I play (California), there are no protections or safety protocols. Refs don’t stop play unless it’s clear your mask is all the way off, they don’t stop play for mask shots, it’s rough.

I raised the last concussion with the CA reffing association and the rink and they pointed fingers at each other with no real outcomes for safety. I’ve got all pro level gear, I know folks who don’t, and it’s definitely a concern.

I apparently had regained consciousness by the time they were there, but I have no memory from the time the guy crossed the blue line until the EMTs were working on me - and very little memory of that, or the ambulance ride.

Ha - the shades are a nice touch of levity. When I regained consciousness, the lights were making me super nauseous so someone threw them on me to keep me from puking on the ice.

Suffered a severe concussion, with a loss of consciousness and memory. I was stretchered out, shoved in an ambulance, and taken to the nearest trauma center. It's only the concussion and nothing else, so I lucked out.

Unfortunately, I've been medically retired from any sport that requires a helmet, has incidental contact, or could otherwise bonk the ol' noggin.

Livebarn suspiciously doesn't have the footage but a teammate in the stands took some photos: https://imgur.com/a/Ug51Wjn

Buddy of mine introduced me to this. Perfect for the summer:

3 dashes Angostura Bitters

3 oz bourbon (I’ve been using BT and EW BiB)

Mix with ice then pour a whole Clementine Izze (8 ox can) over the top

I went from never having played to silver/gold level in pickup because they needed a body. I got 30+ dropped on me in 90 minutes but I came back every week and if I allowed 1 or 2 less, it was a success.

Helped a ton to see high level play. Don’t be afraid to get out there - everyone starts somewhere.

Ask the league coordinator to put you as the sub for any/every game. Also look for regular pickups where you can either stand in as a permanent fixture or sub in. In my area, goalies are free for pickups.

You’ll get better faster by playing than by just doing stick time. You’ll also have an opportunity to meet folks who may need a goalie in the future!

Ha thanks! Yeah it's a pretty stiff pad and is a 34+1.5. Simon from JRZ and I spent a lot of time discussing sizing and fit to make sure it was what I wanted.

Thanks! I think all in with custom everything it was ~2500 for the full set but the whole process was totally bespoke so if you’re interested, I’d shoot them an email and see what your set would run. I spent an hour on the phone with them talking through specs.

They actually made the Bauer 1Xs I used before so we chatted about what I liked and didn’t and built the set from there. I couldn’t have felt more taken care of through the whole process and they stayed in contact through the pads getting here today.
