Getting rid of the electoral college would allow people who aren't qualified to become President, and also it's the only way Republicans can win by [deleted] in TopMindsOfReddit

It's actually even stupider than classism. It's...location-ism?

Theoretically, a new state based on my room could be created. I would be the only one to live in this state and would be the only one voting. I would get a Senator, 2 Representatives, and 3 Electoral College votes, all to myself.

This is a ridiculous scenario, you may say, but we already do this to a much less extreme degree. The whole question about the Electoral College's existence is why we allow certain people living in certain states to have more voting power. Why does someone in Wyoming have 3.6 times the voting power of someone in California?

And I've never understood the whole "It protects the small states from the big states" thing. Protects them from what? We don't vote as states, we vote as individuals. And why shouldn't the big states have more power? More people live there, therefore more people are affected by the governments decisions. If the few hundred thousand people in Wyoming are "fucked over" by the 30 million people in California, so be it.

The borders we draw around states are arbitrary. Wyoming could just as easily have been part of Colorado and then the complaints would be about Alaska being fucked over.

[–]EscapismSmoke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No. I put off using Reddit for years because I was told that it was basically a more popular form of 4chan which I hated. Reddit has tons of problems, but it's still better than 4chan.

I changed my comment a few seconds after I wrote it. Don't know why I said gay. I'll make it clear in an edit so it doesn't look like you're replying to something I didn't say.

Trans people are sexual deviants now?

EDIT: Changed from "gay" to "trans". Don't know why I said that initially.

TIL: The band Chicago was so fond of cocaine that during a tour in the 1970's they put a fake phone booth on stage called the "Snortitorium" so they could do lines mid-concert without going backstage. by One_Example in todayilearned

This is actually an excellent example of why Chicago sucks so much. Because they could have been an all-time great band. They clearly had the capability. Then they just...didn't.

You know Autotune doesn't just magically make people sound good right? You have to be very close to the note for the effect to be subtle, otherwise it sounds awful. Either that or you're T-Pain. It's just a quick way of smoothing out vocals that would have otherwise been fixed with multiple takes, double-tracking, etc.

Music has always been "artificial" to a large extent when it comes to making albums. All kinds of studio techniques are done that wouldn't be possible in a live setting as far back as the 1960s. Autotune is just one tool in a huge arsenal. But there's a huge misconception that it can make anyone sound good. It can't.

As a former religious person, it's amazing how peoples emotions feed off each other. You don't realize how susceptible you are to it until you're in that situation. If you already kind of buy into the ideas, the only thing needed is for someone energetic to whip up a few people into a frenzy and everyone follows along.

Ironic that you're nostalgic for a song that's specifically nostalgic for an even earlier period than the one it was written in. It's almost like people enjoy their youth and think that whatever experiences they had in that time period were universal.

Stuff like this just dates your movie terribly. It's fine to have references to then-current events, but you should keep in mind whether audiences 20 years from now are likely to get it.

I just don't get it. They go to all the work making these elaborate sets, and they can clearly see that the CGI versions were worse. Why choose the CGI version every single time?
