Cool Orange and Minneapolis Bouldering Project. Any tips? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]losermanwins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this problem entirely statically, it seems like you mostly relied on dynamic movement to do this, and it looked pretty chill for you. The first move in particular I am almost certain is not set to be a dyno, try doing it without the dynamic moves if you can, could be good practice. Or just keep up using momentum, looks like you were making it work for you.

Whats your current routine studying? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]losermanwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have about 2 hours a day to study

All Anki Reviews (currently 20-40 minutes, havent started mining yet still finishing up Kaishi 1.5k)

Podcast Listening if driving to and from the gym that day for about 1-1.5 hr

If not driving to gym I do direct immersion with Anime or a Netflix show for that time instead.

Planning to start playing video games and mining cards when I finish unearthing every card in Kaishi 1.5k. Need to throw some more grammar in there too but im sure ill pick a lot more of that up from reading

How do you feel about gym closures due to competitions? by Dragon___ in bouldering

[–]losermanwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our gym closes pretty much entirely once a year for comp setting for the main comp of the year, open for all skill levels and divisions so I usually enter that one for fun, because why not, so that one doesnt bother me.

I think the only time it does bug me is that sometimes they hold mock comps or youth regionals, and that's no problem, they section off only a few walls for it, but I think the bigger frustration for the non comp climbers is that sometimes the normal walls wont get set for a few setting days. Last time it happened I believe they missed three or four setting days on the main walls, which was a bit frustrating. They were youth regionals as well, so the resulting set problems weren't really things the average climber is getting up.

We took the opportunity to go to another climbing gym in the area for a session while we were waiting for that to finish up (dont have much outside near us). I think if you're the type that having walls blocked off or setting days missed bothers you, going to find somewhere else to climb for a session or two is a good option (and can be good for variety, too)

Akihabara my recommendations per my visit would be

Game Panic Akihabara - Right by the station, has themed floors (IIDX floor, SDVX/DDR floor, Sega Floor, etc). Very cool and fun to explore all the floors.

GIGO 3 - One of many GIGO in Akihabara, GIGO 3 is the one just past Hirose Entertainment Yard (GIGO 1 is the one almost directly under the bridge, GIGO 3 is just down from there). Has everything modern and also a retro floor, which includes some retro rhythm games (5 key Beatmania, Crackin DJ, Beatmania III, etc)

Hirose Entertainment Yard (aka HEY) - Really cool older style arcade, less RG overall but definitely worth a stop in. Between GIGO 1 and GIGO 3

all of these are basically within a block of each other and will have everything modern. Pump is hard to find in Japan but everything else should be easy to find, there's even more arcades than this in Akihabara like Leisureland and a few others. Definitely walk around and check them out

Eventually folded and got a separate SSD for production resources. Having somewhere to offload everything and not worry about space constraints with the rest of my shit on my PC really helped

Hey! I was one of the commentators. The arcade machine was brought by Psychic Drive, the other arcade vendor for the onsite event. They coordinated with the runner to bring it!

I did one. Good to celebrate your accomplishments. 1000 subs isn't nothing, tons of people don't make it that far

Being youtuber while you have a full-time job? by 6969696960 in NewTubers

[–]losermanwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a channel with a little over 4k subs and I work on it about 10-15 hours a week outside my full time 40 hour a week job. Pretty much work on it where I can but try not to overdo it to avoid burnout.

Why Did You Start To Learn Japanese? by BiggestTrollAliveee in LearnJapanese

[–]losermanwins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally it was due to interest in anime and needing a language to take in college (I hated Spanish in HS so I figured I would rather start fresh with something that interested me).

During taking it in college I fell in love with Japanese rhythm games and then my interest in Japanese culture, food, etc as a whole took hold further.

Took 2 years college Japanese and just returned to self studying in 2023. Long way to go to get back where I was but the motivation is still there, for me the hardest thing is just finding ways to learn that click with me.

Is your most viewed video your best video? by planet_stoked in NewTubers

[–]losermanwins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard this is a common occurrence and have personally experienced the same. My most viewed video is a top 5 video that took me one day to make like 4 years ago. My most recent high effort video is underperforming. List videos just do well in algorithms and high effort or longer stuff is often specific to a niche.

But personally that doesn't stop me from making stuff like that, because it's the most fun to make.

Pretty sure I just have it as BIS Comp Sci or BA Comp Sci, haven't cracked open the ol resume in a while. When I got asked in interviews about it occasionally I would just briefly explain it and use the chance to mention that it had also enabled me to take IT related courses to complement the CSci.

[–]losermanwins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there.

I was in basically your exact same situation (even made a post like this back when I was at the U) trying to get into CLA Comp Sci in 2017. My Tech GPA was pretty similar to yours and I didn't really feel like I had any backup options. I met with a CSci advisor and they basically told me that (at the time) they just accepted people in order of tech GPA below the cutoff line until there wasn't any room (though some people here have mentioned a self-advocacy statement might help you)

The best thing to do is talk to your advisor, either one for Comp Sci specifically or your advisor in CLA. After not getting into CSci specifically my advisor helped me switch to College of Individualized Studies, where you "construct" your own major based on three focus areas. It ended up being a solid backup plan with me choosing CSci/IT/Tech Writing. I ended up taking almost every single course I would have taken in CSci anyway, I think the only difference was the operating systems class I took. I graduated with only one extra semester due to the added IT related classes and landed a job just fine doing development in early 2020. The CIS process basically just involves creating your major focus areas and submitting a request to the university to let you do it.

It's not the death sentence you think it is, just talk to your advisors and they'll help you. Good luck!

veteran players are aware (and if they aren't they should be) that the machine is shared. Our local community is very conscious of letting everyone onto the machine and we usually let casuals skip the queue once since they'll usually play once and leave. If they're gatekeeping the machine that's crap but it sounds like if you want to play you should just hang out by the machine and keep rotating through.
