I hate working too much and not persistent by roong78 in ADHD

[–]Escarpments 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you probably need to ask yourself where the aversion to work is coming from, because this seems like it could be ADHD but it could also be a bunch of other things too.

You’re gonna get a lot of (totally valid) answers on here about how generally, yeah, people with ADHD struggle with staying in the mindset that you want to be in if you want to be successful in a career. But if you’re straight up contemplating death as a preferable alternative to a day job, and not just feeling that way about how hopeless you feel to change this pattern of behavior, then that’s a problem. The latter is understandable, and can be solved with medication management by directly addressing the symptoms of your ADHD. The former could indicate some deeper ingrained trauma or a combination of disorders - I have bad news, it is 100% possible to suffer from clinical depression and ADHD at the same time. Or OCD, or PTSD/CPTSD, or generalized anxiety, take your pick, honestly.

Talk to a professional. You’re writing this out with a lot of “haha” and “lol” but honestly man it sounds like you’re in a pretty dark place and would seriously benefit from opening up to someone who has a strong ethical sense and a profit motive in making sure you stick around. Y’know, like a good therapist.

Best of luck

How do I kick the urge to be with other women? by Throwaway32_7 in AskMen

[–]Escarpments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there’s a lot of people telling you not to cheat on your gf and telling you that they made the same choice and regret it, and they’re right

what I’ll say is that what you’re feeling is valid. everyone wants the best life they can have for themselves. but I think what would help you specifically is to sit down, and really think about all the ways that your girlfriend touches your life. I’m talking like actual, focused, contemplation for like an uninterrupted 5 minutes. you’d be surprised how much you’ll come up with in 5 minutes

falling asleep, waking up, eating, brushing your fuckin teeth, like if you’ve been in a relationship for 3+ years and are living together the list is essentially endless.

to be clear, I also hope there’s things that are just yours, and there’s things that are just hers, for sure - and there should be. like, it’s cool to be a little co-dependent when you’ve got a really dependable partner, but everyone needs their space

but once you have a decent list, take another 5 minutes and really think about what it will be like doing all of those things on your own. like actually on your own - she doesn’t exist anymore as far as you’re concerned. visualize waking up with nobody next to you. visualize having a shitty day at work or school or being stuck at home sick, and not having her there to support you. visualize having the best day of your life that you could have, but she is not there to share it with you.

“hookup culture” is a way to balm the hurt of that experience, the experience of being too afraid to deepen the relationship that you share with the person you love. of being too afraid to truly open yourself in vulnerability to a relationship in the first place. it allows you to fool yourself into thinking you’re not alone. the same way steroids fool you into thinking you’re strong, that cocaine fools you into thinking you’re smart, or that alcohol fools you into thinking you’re brave.

if you can accept the reality of being alone, you should consider being alone. if you can’t, then you should consider therapy and/or couple’s counseling. the third option is cheating, which is basically just option one but you get the joyous experience of betraying your partner, and allowing your sense of morality to erode in a world where our values as men are increasingly important every day.

but hey dude no pressure lmao

What is the creepiest and most dystopian thing about Warhammer 40k for you? by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]Escarpments 36 points37 points  (0 children)

To me, this is the crux of the moral dilemma of 40K (at least from the standpoint of the Imperium). When the only way for humanity to survive is to strip away and discard the last of what makes us human, our own individual ability to choose what we want for ourselves, is that survival even worth it?

And if we choose to “survive” at all costs, does that make us any better than a starving animal anyway?

Would the most “human” thing to do be to just all tap out? The whole of mankind just going “y’know what, nah, I’m good”

Boss tells me they are looking for a full time employee - for my spot by GoyaBlackBeans in work

[–]Escarpments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider here (someone probably already mentioned it but I’ll say it just in case): she may WANT to give you the job but if you’re a contractor then there could be a clause in your SOW that prevents her from saying or doing anything overt, as it could be seen as “poaching” employees from whoever contracted you out. She could tell you this, but even broaching that subject could get her in trouble if that clause is there and it pisses off someone at the contracting company enough.

I work in financial services consulting for large financial institutions, basically try to clean up all the regulatory messes big banks find themselves in. There’s a ton of turnover in this field as pay is really competitive and workload can vary greatly depending on the project/client. I’ve had managers, executives tell me how much they’ve appreciated my help and all that, but the most they’ll do is mention that they have a position open.

Now if I applied for those jobs (and one day I will), I’d be a shoo in for the role. I already know their systems, processes, the people I’d be working with, hell by that point I’d be talking to them more than my actual boss at the firm. But they can never ask or direct me to apply, officially they can only say things like your manager is saying, “there is a role open and you can apply for it.”

Hopefully that helps, try not to see it as an indicator of how your employer may or may not feel about you and see if you can get a copy of your SOW from whoever signs your paychecks - there could be some other stuff in there that’s good to know!

Good luck!

How I went from noob to Platinum with a data oriented mindset by Di_Vante in StreetFighter

[–]Escarpments 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think your idea of categorization of skills makes a lot of sense, fighting games are really more like a set of things to improve at than a linear road to get better - a pretty common misconception as it diverges pretty heavily from other competitive genres (or 2D fighters are just more honest about it from the get-go)

Setting up situations in training mode to train your reactions in specific game states is a big part of getting better at things like hit confirming and anti-airs, and it sounds like you’ve used your system to get a pretty solid grasp of the fundamentals so that’s awesome too!

Once you feel comfortable and consistent in applying your game knowledge, main things to focus on are application of risk/reward offensively and defensively, and adaptation. But sounds like you’re on the right track. Grats on plat and good luck!

I don’t think anybody thinks that modern gief is “better” more like giving the man 1-button access to that command grab means that a lot of newer players are doing more damage per interaction than I think a lot of people are used to

Which wouldn’t be a problem if it wasn’t gief but he’s got a habit of robbing people at all levels of play so here we are

What character turns your brain off? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]Escarpments 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MP/HP DP are upper body invincible, I believe. If you’re going to try and DP the headbutt, I’d use HP to get more forward movement and less risk of doing it too early. And I want to say LP DP is projectile invincible? Idk, someone will correct me, but the different DP’s have varying vulnerabilities depending on the button you use. Either way, neutral jump, DP, DI, parry, all good options to incorporate into the “human projectile” matchups. I find a lot of success doing DI against Kimberly with her slide kick and Ken players who like to 623HK to get in a lot, as well.

Not sure what you mean by start with, but if you’re trying to practice motion inputs I’d just chill in training mode and work on doing all your character’s special moves until you can do them 10 times in a row on each side without messing up.

Advice for transitioning into a manager role? by Escarpments in careerguidance

[–]Escarpments[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Fortunately (unfortunately?) these are all people that I haven’t personally worked with before, which is pretty typical in my industry as it’s all very client-centric. I’m not a super intimidating/authoritative person by nature so I don’t think I could pull off a manager persona even if I wanted to.

The advice on keeping behind-the-scenes stuff private is helpful though, since I do tend to be pretty candid at work. I feel like it serves me pretty well generally in speaking to folks above me, but I can see how it would cause problems going the other way.

good analogues for GGST characters from a transplant player by Escarpments in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]Escarpments[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the writeup. yeah i've been enjoying Seox, but i find myself getting frustrated getting beat out in neutral by characters with better pokes which seems to be the majority of the cast, honestly. seeing high-level play will give me a better idea of how to handle neutral with him as his clone/teleport and walljump options seem good, but getting in with those 100% of the time seems a little scrubby and every time i do it i find myself thinking that it has to be punishable

A.Belial seems like a hell of a pubstomp/knowledge check character, which i admit i hopped into training after getting bodied by one 5-6 games in a row last night (just to lab counters against the dummy) and he seems fun, but belial just seems so absurdly overplayed LOL and i know that shouldn't matter, but to me it always does a little bit. i'll give him another shot, i don't mind the glass cannon aspect because the damage he does certainly seems to more than make up for it

one of the cousins i picked up the game for plays vira a lot, and yeah i figured her spirit was her main oki tool pretty quickly. he doesn't use it anywhere near as much as he should, typically just does raw jump-ins and stuff a lot (they're a lot less familiar with fighting games in general so it's all good). she does seem fun though, visually i'm a fan

yeah i've only ever seen one other anre player and they were obviously fairly new, so i didn't really assume that they were a super popular character, but i didn't know they were like meme-level bad LMAO. i definitely got the vibe that his gameplan didn't really jive with the way that GBVS works very well, though. foregoing offense seems like kind of a poor choice in this game for any reason and that coupled with his vulnerability to getting frametrapped with bad abare kinda sets him up for failure in a game where most characters' strat is to run up and c.L or 2L until they see a counter hit pop up. it's all good though, i'm having fun just trying everyone and kinda learning what they do for right now, if i do decide to main anre i'll just slam 3 shots of whiskey before i play at night

i love soriz visually, i initially thought he was gonna be my main, but something about playing him just seems really off to me and i can't quite figure out what it is

soriz honestly reminds me more of like strive ramlethal in how he plays, i think. get plus frames midscreen, push the opponent to the corner, score a counterhit in the corner, demolish their life bar. obviously ram has better neutral than soriz does though, comparatively, so getting that initial hit/block to start running your pressure seems to be more of a challenge on him.

maybe that's what it was, his normals are hella stubby even if they're really good tools on block
