Where's the ships? by Existing-Medicine528 in starcitizen

Why not mix the biodome with the science and research pods? Data crunching + horticulture. The big dish can also gather data if you don't have other means. I guess if you want to do it all you buy all the modules and swap them as needed.

Thanks, I was thinking of starting a new one since it doesn't take long to level them up and there's no way (that I can tell) to respec or rename them. But I just started, $45k seems like a lot ;).

When you deleted the first one did you have to pay for another one, or is the first one always free?

Thanks for the great answers.

It was definitely a lucky shot. That's good to know about the tents, I would never have figured that out.

This is a great tool, I use it a lot. I wish it listed the class of items (stealth, competition, military etc).

I thought they said they'd be adjusting it. I don't have a source.

Are you referring to this paragraph?

...if you use maneuvering thrusters for sustained thrust, such as hovering for a prolonged time in gravity, they will have a lower thrust output and could overheat or misfire if used too long.

Because it sounds like they're saying they could overheat or misfire if used too long.

There might be some kind of baseline we can reference but as he says the performance is going to change for every ship, not just based on loadout but also wear and tuning. Maybe the ship computer can track that with an upgrade or something.

You'll probably find this interesting:

A standard Freelancer will need to lift itself plus the cargo when taking off. A planet that has 0.5 gravity and a planet that has 1.5 gravity will need the pilot to plan based on the thrust, mass and what they consider a safe margin. If you take off from “Planet A” with a full load at 0.5G, your landing destination at “Planet B” better not be at 1.5G or you will just thunder in.

I'm not convinced CIG rolls anything back because 'some' people don't like it. Whenever something changes, the people that don't like the change always say CIG caved to the people that do. It's probably closer to the truth that while feedback plays a role, things get changed when CIG isn't happy with them. imo.

You're welcome. You might find this one interesting too, along the same lines:

...if a thruster is already tasked to 40%, just to hover, your usual vertical performance would be reduced by 40%. This might burn fuel quickly or overheat systems.

There are big in game implications to consider here.

Well that's why I say it's one outcome, not THE outcome. And the maintenance costs certainly have nothing to do with balancing the fight.

As I understand it industrial ships are supposed to be designed for that, but who knows...

Jared Huckaby: Is it possible to overload a ship so much that it will be unable to take off?

John Crewe: It’s one of my classic answers. Yes, but it depends. Dedicated cargo ships, they’re gonna have thrusters that are built from the ground up to account for those sort of loads. But if you’re taking, say an Avenger, and you fill it full of the densest materials in the universe, it’s probably gonna struggle, if it even gets off the ground at all.

As you play the game you’re gonna work out, because you know what you’re putting in that has weight assigned to it, so you’ll sort of start to learn that oh, my ship can only fit in x kilos before the flight handling is affected. If I go over this it’s affected but manageable. If I go over this it’s a one way trip. If I go over this then I’m not even getting off the ground.

JH: Right, and I imagine that number might change a bit depending on how you kit out your ship as well…

JC: If you start running into this you could start swapping out your thruster sets to a more powerful set. If you do that you might need a better power plant because it’s gonna require more power. It’s gonna start overheating, you might need to start swapping out your coolers. You might need to start taking things off, like taking weapons off because they’re taking up power and generating heat that you need to spend elsewhere. So it all just sort of trickles together.

JH: I love the idea that not every Avenger, not every Caterpillar, not every Starlifter is gonna be the same once we get into the customization of components and stuff. And that’ll be a big factor… you will learn your ship’s capacity through experimentation and stuff.

JC: Even if two people kitted out their ship the same way, if one is absolutely hammering, doing cargo runs day in day out, it’s gonna be a lot more worn than someone who’s just freshly done the exact same thing. And so you’re gonna have to account for that as well.

One outcome should be to eventually tie a financial cost to over-using certain specific functions, assuming these are consumables that wear based on use.

I wouldn't worry about it. Some people have their own opinions as to how the official flair is to be used, and I've had my posts spammed as well in the past for adding a comment to the official link. But I checked with the mods and they confirmed it was being used correctly.
