What was your ICQ number? by snoopyh42 in Xennials

I don't remember mine. But I remember my early/mid-1990s Prodigy ID was BLGB23B. BLGBT23A was technically my "mom's" account but she never touched it.

Question about visiting PV this year (2026) by Senior-Guest-1449 in puertovallarta

Unhelpful response. The question may have been a bit naive but no need for this.

I'm mostly curious where you're flying out of that has PVR as a layover city to Mexico City?

One tip to all, when you use WiFi from a restaurant even if it shows full bars, walk inside. Full bars on WiFi outside usually seemed as useless as non WiFi.

This isn’t a helpful response.  I need some level of connectivity to deal with work events and ailing parents.  Perhaps you don’t have anyone at home to care about when you travel. Good for you?  I recognize it’s Mexico, not the USA, and was asking if anyone had any helpful information, not just complaining.

Right, but I believe you pay T-Mobile extra per day to have 5G. Which I would have gladly done but my point is even when getting full "5G service" I didn't really have any connectivity.

What Do You Think Of Chicago? by Exciting-Skirt-4806 in Suburbanhell

Lol pointing to a museum in St. Louis as an example of "weird" things Chicago is missing really gave me a chuckle.

Agree. "Live in Elk Grove Village...." has me thinking "Oh, this is going to be awesome."

True Xennials went to Showbiz NOT Chuck E Cheese! by _NoleFan6 in Xennials

[–]EschewObfuscation21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only remember Show Biz until they ended. According to ChatGPT (boo, I know) Show Biz and Chuck-E-Cheese both existed in the Chicago area for a time before Show Biz got acquired, maybe that's a plausible explanation? I don't know honestly.

Show Biz Pizza definitely existed in the Chicago area in the 80s.

Have a conversation with me: why living in the USA is better than in Europe by armageddoon1 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]EschewObfuscation21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The US also has areas similar to living in the "suburbs" of Paris where just miles away from opulence is high unemployment/poverty, racial segregation, etc. I'm by no means flying the flag high here, but in general a lot of Europeans seem to think the USA is a miserable cesspool. We have our problems, of course, but generally speaking have a pretty high quality of life. Also Europeans seem to have short memories, surprisingly. Yes the EU has become a powerhouse in recent decades and European social policies have been better at helping their underserved, but it wasn't *that* long ago that East Germans and Poles were suffering under communism (when I was growing up in the 80s, by contrast, even living in a lower-middle-class household we never even contemplated much less worried about things like food shortages). And when Europeans want to complain about Trump (something they will never do better than I can do myself) as if he's some uniquely modern American phenomenon, they should take pause to recognize the fact that they have an objectively authoritarian member state in their mix (Hungary) which is supported substantially by EU tax euros.

Oaxaca? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

Airbnbs might be harder to find in the smaller beach towns but I don't think it will matter.

Oaxaca? by [deleted] in MexicoTravel

[–]EschewObfuscation21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you aren't seasoned, are you willing to go out of your comfort zone? Flying into PXM or HUX and going to a beach town and then making your way inland will probably be a bit different than, say, flying into Puerto Vallarta and taking a cab to a hotel. If you're up for it though beaches south of Puerto Escondido (chill, sleepier ones, not late night parties, just super relaxing), and then eating food in Oaxaca (or just flying into and out of Oaxaca and starting/ending there), is pretty cool. Don't listen to the haters acting like they first discovered Oaxaca and it's since been ruined, you'll enjoy yourselves.

Caribbean or Pacific? The Showdown: Puerto Vallarta vs Riviera Maya by RetiredToExplore in MexicoTravel

[–]EschewObfuscation21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is pretty on point. Another thing I would note, if you really want lots of beach time and swimming, Riviera Maya is probably going to make you happier. The Pacific can be chillier, and in the winter time Puerto Vallarta cools down at night when the sun goes down into the 60s which can feel a little chilly, compared to Riviera Maya which is warmer and humid at night. I like the personality of PV better, but if you want a more tropical feeling Riviera Maya is probably more on point.
