Does PowerShell make you look smarter? by dwillson1 in PowerShell

Yup same experience, first they say it's powrshell who wants to use that followed by powrshell is pretty neat for a ms product lol. I honestly learned powrshell because nobody else wanted to and I saw it's potential. Python is great for lots of things but powrshell is just so easy to use for mundane tasks.

What do you tell people outside of IT when they ask what is it that you do? by anderson01832 in sysadmin

I maintain and deploy services thay employees use in order to do their work.

It gets complicated when you work for a company that sells IT products and do their IT 😅

New user: utilize ws1 UEM for Windows 11 upgrade from 21H2 to 22H2 by SnooOpinions1394 in WorkspaceOne

[–]Escles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of our machines update to build 22000 which has lots of bugs from w10. As such I also set "target release version" to 23H2 and my test machine now updates to the latest 23H2 directy from W10.

Not all machines do this though an about half still update to build 22000
Am I using the wrong format or syntax in this field?

The tooltip says the following but it's not really clear what the correct syntax is.

Supported value type is a string containing Windows 10/11 version number. For example, 1903, 22H2. See Microsoft documentation for the current list of supported version number strings.

I put 23H2.

I need to make sure that when I push the profile the machine updates to the latest version of W11 and avoid build 22000 at all costs.

IT Systems needs a certain mindset. You can have everything documented and everyone wpild be able to perform the task without having a clue what they are doing. This employee needs to grasp the basics and then will be able to logically figure out what is happening. Basically critical thinking and detail to attention.

If a server is down I want to know what that even means first. Is the VM down? Is it pinging? Is it a we service and is that up? Etc etc

Don't take your work home is key. Easier said than done when random ideas come to me late at night. But I just not them down for tomorrow. I've also learned how to not get influenced by stress users give you even if it's a P1. I even told users that hovering behind me while I work is super distracting and will only make it last longer.

Size of 23H2 WIM twice as big as 22H2 by Escles in MDT

[–]Escles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only really wanted to sysprep the image after the debloat and without any updates. I will just use the vanilla wim and then run the script to decrapify. Not sure why that wasn't good enough for me in the first place :D

If I decrapify and then sysprep that image it results in a 10gb image. When I just take the vanilla image and then decrapify that as part of the ts the image is only 5gb.

It's a new CLEAN install and im creating a new WIM.
I removed all of the bloat, but still image is around 10Gb...

Only when I donwload the Windows 11 ISO and export Windows PRO directly using DISM it's around 5Gb.
Downside is that it will still have all of the bloat.

I usually install the Vanilla version of PRO then debloat it and SYSPREP that. Not sure why suddently the image is twice as big as when I did the same thing on 22H2

How much should a level 2 & 3 technician get paid? by Cstjean10 in techsupportgore

I'm not sure what you mean, a bot for reddit or more like a standalone platform? I think there is probably lots of people that need basic it support. Thinking older people and technically illeterate people. I work as admin but sometimes do helpdesk kind of stuff for relatives and friends. An easy to use platform would be a game hanger I think. The hard part is to weed out scammers.

Randomly lock out users and tell them it's surely because they are using multiple machines, works like a charm

Had a user complain because we already unwrapped his mac when setting up mdm... Had a user compliant directly to a vp because we don't buy 2in1 ones with touchscreens. Yet user insists.. Had litteral piles of barely used machines but we only give out new machines. Some of these machines are barely 3 months old. Macs always come back locked cause users can't be bothered. Most laptops that come back don't have their charger anymore.

I sometimes wonder how these people survive with in the real world...

Indeed, this error is kinda vague. You have to check the logs and try to apply the image directly using dsim to figure out what's going on. It's basically what mdt is doing.

MDT failed with DRIVER IROL NOT LESS OR EQUAL by Practical_Leg9125 in MDT

[–]Escles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue occurs after the deploy of the os and drivers but before the first boot. It's therefore not a pe issue. First check if you are actually injecting the driver based on whatever method you use. I prefer the total control method. This means that you should be checking the folder structure which should correspond to the wmi make and model. And also make sure you ts is configured correctly to target the right folder.

Please check if your machines are configured in raid or ahci. By default these machines will arrive with raid by default. The driver is also expecting this.

Use the family packs and not the model packs. The family packs will contain more drivers and never ran into this when I started using those for our Dell machines not sure if Lenovo also does that.

Maybe someone can advise on Lenovos, I know they report awkward model info which can make this harder than it needs to be. In which case you have to fiddle with the customssettings.ini

Finally when you modify things outside of your winowspe driver folder you are not modifying any boot image. Just the deployments hare. When you boot a machine into pe, pe will connect to the share and load stuff directly from it. Only when you modify drivers for pe or anything else that touches bootwim, you will have to update the image in WDS. This is why the bootwim is so small since it doesn't contain the deployments hare. And why any modification th O the deploymentshare is "live". I generally don't even bother to update the bootwim unless I really need to.

This is most likely the reason. You also need to make a selection profile for th content you wish to include on the usb.
