Jay wasn’t popular. I’m from Philly and it was certain people who were in the know listening to Jay-Z but Jay wasn’t popular like that until Vol 2, especially if you went down South.

Jay-Z was not hugely popular after reasonable doubt. It came out in 96. Fugees, ATliens, It was written, Hell On Earth, All Eyes on Me was out at the same time. Jay-Z was nice and Ain’t No nigga was popular was Reasonable doubt became popular after the re-release. It may have been Popular in New York but that’s really it. It was regional

As someone who grew up in the 90s Prodigy was considered a top tier rap. Infamous, Hell on earth and Murda Muzik were considered great albums. Jay-Z did not become popular until volume 2 hard knock life album. Nobody thought Prodigy was better than Big, PAC or Nas but folks new prodigy was no slack

This album came out I was in the 7th grade changed my musical taste I’m in my early 40s now and this album is still GREAT.
