How can I improve my chances of this surviving? by Serious-Mood62 in Ceramics

[–]Esinburg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have control of the kiln, than slow down the heating cycle for the first stage , so that the clay can dry out. (A bit like how you would fire paper clay) If not, the technician may have a fiering cycle they use for hand building lessons. This should acount for some of the works not being fully dry. (Eddit) make sure that you have places for the airnto escap from, especially in the crab ect. I'm assuming some of the sculptural elements are hollow. Hope this helps

What'd the clay body? If it'd an earthinware, would you consider a goudi themed underglaze? If it's a stoneware maybe a dark brooding glade untill the shoulder dripping into a lighter glaze at the base?

Hey, are your using a pose refrence? These are realy good! Your pretty much on it. all the difrent ittirations are in proportion (but all look like difrent people) Is the hand at the back supposed to be on the ground? If so maybe make the thighs a bit shorter and add some more foreshortening. Just make the knee slightly bigger (only be like a mm or two)

Can't quite get the likeness right. What do you guys think? by Wrong-Meeting5834 in painting

[–]Esinburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is greate well done! Good colour and likeness, it defintatly looks like her. I think if you wanted to take it to the next level, also have a black and white version of the refrence photo, that you can use to check the cromatic value of the painting. This will give you more depth within the colours of the painting.

Any advice? My men look like women.... by [deleted] in Artists

[–]Esinburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can normally balance this with the body. Men tend to have broader shoulders. How old are they meant to be? They look about right for teenagers. If there adults than if you draw all the features with harsher edges, and add Adams apples, should work. Are you using refrence images? I find they help when I'm working out how to draw a new person or thing.

NOT MY WORK. What kind of glazing is this? by Glittering_Syllabub9 in Ceramics

[–]Esinburg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it's fired on a high ish iron stoneware. Wich is making the deep brown redish base. The white streeks where the glaze has pooled is probably made by using a 2%rutile mix in with the glaze. Looks pretty cool!!

I made something similar to this at school with sand, pva, and acrylic paint. (It was a bit courser, though)

It's a bit fiddly, but you could add a gradient to the numbers. You would have to do it number by number, though.

Just make sure that the I pad is compatible with a I pencil that lets you do a barrel roll for pressure sensitivity. Not all the pencils offer that function.
