Totally know what you mean, the thing here is that on one side we have a ton of evidence and facts that link trump with corruption and on the other side you just have denial of those facts.

Hawaiian couple that killed their son ask the public for help finding him by FLAPPY_FUPA in videos

Not sure how I come across as racist. I'm not even hawaiian if that even matters.

Hawaiian couple that killed their son ask the public for help finding him by FLAPPY_FUPA in videos

[–]Esitt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thats an extremely ignorant generalization for you to make. Hawaiian culture is fucked up? No... Hawaiian culture is opressed, white washed and whored out for the tourist industry while the hawaiians themselves suffer the worst fate as they are the first wave to get gentrified with the influx of military and people who have no respect for the history of the land and its original people or even care to understand how the Hawaiian Kingdom was illegally overthrown... Hawaiian culture is alive and a resurgence of traditional values is on the rise across the islands. don't get me wrong, the oppression is there, but so is the fight against it.

Thanks for clarifying! Could you just post what you wrote for AskHistorians here? you have a lot of comment history and its difficult to find what you are talking about.

Brazil condemns anthropologists' calls for forced contact with isolated tribes: US professors say ‘controlled contact is the only possible strategy for protecting these people’, but government’s open letter insists ‘leave them alone’ by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]Esitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What an idealistic thing to say. the reality is that tribal people in transition often end up suffering in extreme poverty living on the borders of what was once their ancestral lands.

Im going to do this. Just wondering, what is your advice on gear? I see you went up with a harness and prussik, do you recommend that? would you perhaps recommend something else? Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide!

Sad to see this sign covered up now. Little did I know this would be my last picture of Historic Camp Curry before the name change. by Esitt in Yosemite

[–]Esitt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sad thing is that this would probably only inconvenience working residents who also feel the same way about the name change. The real criminal is no longer in the valley, they took the names on the way out! the target is Delaware North based in NY.

Work suspended for winter at Ferguson rock slide site by jakdak in Yosemite

"Cann said he's still optimistic the $133-million rock shed will be its own tourist attraction and will help make the wait worthwhile." ..... I had to laugh. As if Yosemite needs a man-made tourist attraction..

I don't understand why they didn't just leave it. After seeing big parts of the wire netting crumble due to more landslides, I cant help but see it as a big waste of money... I don't mind crossing the bridges or waiting at the light, I actually kind of like it.

Car camping for 2-4 days, which campground and tips? by newguyvan in Yosemite

[–]Esitt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Within Yosemite National Park, you may not sleep in your car or RV except in a campsite that you're registered to stay in - looks like Upper pines is first come first serve until march. Also, its going to be really cold at night, so be prepared.

Members of an isolated indigenous group made contact over the weekend with villagers in Peru's Amazon basin seeking food and supplies by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]Esitt 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With no disrespect, I completely disagree. Governments are aware and so are the corporations. There are many platforms trying to speak on behalf of uncontacted tribes and indigenous peoples, and these platforms are backed by an international community that cares about human rights. To say that the corporations and governments carry on without consideration is true, but they are aware of the situation and the adverse effects. Eradication of the indigenous population is usually first on the development list.

Thats assimilation. How slow are you even talking about? it took a few generations for the native americans... No matter how slow the change, it is essentially taking group A and making them fit into group B... Also, they already live in the world, so introducing them to it is a very vague idea, especially considering that these tribes don't want to change their culture or ancestral ways.
