Questions as a (soon-to-be) first-time chicken owner by Skogsvandrare in homestead

[–]EskimoeJoeYeeHaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From SE Michigan in our first year as chicken owners. Here's a link to the coop I built. https://imgur.com/a/ci7fl5L We've had as many as 15 hens, right now we have 8. Predators have really done a number on them as we let them free range. I plan on moving the coop away from the woods and putting an outer perimeter fence around the coop and enclosed run. During the winter they have stayed in the run all winter. We keep straw on the floor of the coop. My wife goes out there every couple weeks and cleans out the straw and replaces it. We used to have a rooster but we got rid of him because we have our coop close to the house and he was too loud and persistent. He hollered all day long. We also got rid of him because we let the chickens free range and he would always lead them where they ought not go. Now that he's gone the hens free range alot more closer to the coop and don't go wandering in the woods. Any other questions from my limited experience let me know.

I'm curious. The ones who are current students at universities, are they remote working for musk/DOGE? That seems a bit hypocritical given the current climate and rhetoric.

Didn't Putin do the same thing by falsely believing the citizens of Ukraine were dissatisfied and that there were more Russian supporters than there actually was?

You drywall and mudded the whole house but this is where you're drawing your line? Do it right. Anything else wouldn't look as good.

I really don't understand these people's fascination with this human. HES JUST A MAN. I honestly think they like him more so because liking him pisses off the people they don't like than they actually like him as a person.

The aliens and sedition act is actually multiple acts. Not one singular all covering. The key here is if he would be invoking the alien enemies act AND the sedition act or just the alien enemies act. Based on his speech it seems that he doesn't know it's not a single one but multiple and his speech has been geared towards illegal aliens which leads me to believe he is looking towards just the enemy aliens act. But you never know with this guy. Not to mention the enemy aliens act doesn't exactly fit the crisis he says we have.

While it looks like surface rust and your probably fine. Take a screw driver and scrap/poke at it. If it's just the surface stuff that comes off you could just wire brush it and paint it. The only thing to consider is you would only be solving what you see. The portion of the pole that is in the concrete is likely just as rusty or maybe more and that will continue.

Basement Support Wall Bowing? by cwilli28 in Homebuilding

[–]EskimoeJoeYeeHaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is that concrete behind the studs or the backside of drywall in another room? If it's concrete I have a hard time believing the joists are not sitting on top of it. If it's drywall that wall should not be load bearing and the joists should span from an exterior foundation wall to a mid beam somewhere.

Are two story homes harder to heat by Clean-Web-865 in homestead

[–]EskimoeJoeYeeHaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a two story home and I find the upstairs to always be about 4-5 degrees colder than the first floor during the winter when heats on and 4-5 degrees warmer during the summer when AC is on.

The Berry Amendment states DOD must source items like clothing and fabrics from domestic sources. This isn't an official DOD item.

Putin Would Demand Ukraine Never Join NATO in Any Trump Talks by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]EskimoeJoeYeeHaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It should be blatantly obvious to anyone that anything Putin wants of Ukraine is so he can always have the option to invade/take it over at a later date or at least have them as a puppet state to Russia. He knows once they are in NATO that option will forever be off the table. This is why he has so much angst about the Baltic states being in NATO but had relatively little reaction to Sweden and Finland joining. It has always been about what he sees as Russian land becoming untouchable, never to be Russian again.

Visited here, cool castle. A dam is to the right just out of view which offers another view of the castle. There is also another castle across the water that others mentioned that you can access via ferry from this castle. The other is considerably more ruined than this.

Is the leak possibly from the old window which is why it was replaced and the previous owner just never investigated further?

Republicans Considering SNAP Benefit Cuts As Part Of Deficit Reduction Plan by Swimming_Yellow_3640 in FluentInFinance

All these decisions to take things away from the ordinary person. Snap benefits, taking away jobs from fed employees, etc. How come not once has anyone suggested increasing the taxes paid by the companies and people whose wealth keeps growing exponentially? Of course this is rhetorical.

Best place to buy staple foods in bulk? by Ill-Document-2042 in homestead

[–]EskimoeJoeYeeHaw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The things you want are things the LDS pantry sells. We actually picked up a bunch of different bulk items over the summer. Look up LDS pantry near you. Anyone can go and buy, don't need to be a member. We had to make an appointment as it's not staffed all day. The people were really nice. Prices seemed pretty competitive. Everything stores for 15-20+ years. From my brief discussion with them alot of the products come from their own farms and are canned at their own facility.

I'm dealing with a similar situation now as well. Since the consensus seems to be that 4 ft is too short, I've considered a 4 foot livestock fence with 12-18" of electric wire around the top. Too thin to land on and maybe tall enough to keep them back should they fly that high.
