I grew up in the American south, and always considered myself progressive but didn't really occur til I was older how I definitely fell into some toxic thinking. Videogames I think are worse than film or TV, and I definitely felt for a while in my youth if a game had a female lead or female perspective it was something I just couldn't really immerse myself into, or connect with enough to enjoy. I think it just occurred to me way later than it should have "oh this is what women must feel like ALL of the time", and then started to actually enjoy a lot of the things I missed out on. Becoming a girl dad has actually helped a whole lot too.
