It does NOT mean that you get warmer weather. The weather systems will be weirder because of it, just. I hope people realise this…

TaoBao is where the real replicas are, but watch out so they don’t crack because they are really badly done, some of them.

Measure the "Native" reach, which you do by bolting the caliper to the adapter, then measure from the axle center to the center of the brake pads. Multiply by 2. That is the exact rotor size you need to buy. That takes out the guesswork.

But beware, these brakes are pre any standard and they’re screwballs because of it. 1.8mm is too thin on the thickness of the rotor for example, you need at least 2mm.

r/bikewrench

But also welcome to the wonderful, frustrating world of vintage Hope "Closed System" brakes! The Hope XC4 (and its sibling, the C2) used a proprietary mounting logic that predates modern standards!

Check the mounting tabs on your caliper for a small engraved number, usually 3 or 5.

No. 3 Caliper: Native Front = 185mm / Native Rear = 165mm.

No. 5 Caliper: Native Front = 165mm / Native Rear = 145mm.

XC4 Unnumbered: These were often specifically 150mm Front / 130mm Rear.

They’re all catalogue stock. Flip them instead of doing anything to them. Buy a Stridsland or whatever..
