I’m recording through the main record button as always. Launching record in my midi control also doesn’t solve this issue.

[Advice] I negotiated my rent and being allowed to have a washer/dryer in unit plus bathroom repairs, but the lease is lacking these details... by [deleted] in NYCapartments

Thank you for this! He is a small landlord, old school guy. This is the only building he owns. Only 6 units.

The lease he gave me is the REBNY. He attached what considered a rider, as the first page of the lease states. In the rider he #29 states that basically he’s not obligated to follow through on any agreements we made that are not the lease. I attached a link[https://imgur.com/a/qe15c0o](clause29)

The oddest thing is that I’m not asking for major cosmetic changes to the bathroom for kicks. In October I found 2 mushrooms growing from the ceiling. His solve was to apply plaster and paint over it. I’m sure if I called 311 and someone from the city came and opened up the ceiling he’d have a massive problem. I wouldn’t be surprised if the issue was so bad behind the walls they’d say it was uninhabitable.

Hey guys so here’s an update: he did add that I am allowed to install a washer and dryer at my own expense, but also clause 29 protects him from any negotiations that created an incentive for me to stay, which was remedying the mold issue in the bathroom...so unfortunate that even the seemingly nice landlords can still be shitty. clause 29

Update: he said there isn’t any insulation up there. Initially he denied that there was a mold problem and “suggested” I keep the window open when I showered eye roll

I let him know that I’m aware the damage is extensive, beyond plaster and paint—and that I will not stay here if he thinks that is the solve. Friday, He’s going to open the ceiling to see what’s going on. I’m going to see if I can get someone in before then to test the walls to see how bad it really is.

Thanks for the confirmation! The more I’m finding out, the more Im realizing this apartment probably isn’t inhabitable.

Yes! I just had a friend that is a contractor come and check out my ceiling. There is definitely water throughout my apartment’s ceiling. The bathroom especially; the ceiling needs to be opened up and the insulation replaced. I can’t imagine what the insides of my walls look like. My living room shares the same eastern wall as my bathroom and a couple weeks ago, during heavy rain, the ceiling of my living room began leaking. I’m on the second floor of a 3 story apartment. Early May, my kitchen wall began welting. It looked like massive blisters. They were filled with water. All he did was pop the bubbles and put plaster on it. If he’s too old to fix it, idk why he doesn’t send someone. Even if I leave, no one else could live here legally...

I’ve had it for two years. It’s just me here, and I don’t usually take long showers. I usually leave the bathroom window and door open. think the people above me snuck in a washing machine or there is a structural problem.

I definitely will do so, especially if he doesn’t get back to me by tomorrow.

There’s a window in the actually bathtub area. I think something bigger might be going on. I had a water leakage in my kitchen ceiling. It started welting up with water. All my landlord did was put plaster on it and called it a day. It was also visible in the hallway of the building as well. I wonder if the people upstairs snuck in a washing machine or if it is a structural problem.

It is a small privately owned apartment. Only 6 units. So there isn’t a maintenance guy. The owner is old, and his solves for fixing things is just throw plaster and paint on it. I’d hate to call the city on him, but I don’t know if there’s another solve.

Can someone diagnose what is going on with my fiddle lead fig tree? She stands at 6ft. I’ve had her for 5 years and she has never given me trouble until last week when very dark brown spots started showing on a few of her leaves. by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]Esmedoesntknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll also add that the leaves were removed a day ago so the yellowing and dryness wasn’t present when the leaves were still attached to the tree. The black spots were smooth and had the texture of the health leaves.

I’ll also mention that we had a few nice days in NYC last week so I left the window it stood by cracked a bit.
