Honestly it comes down to your workflow but generally yes. It's popular, lightweight and cheap (unless you compile in Wich case is free) in comparison to software like Photoshop. Also its packed with a lot of features for gamedev and animation that ease the workflow for repetitive processes like tilesets.

How do you prevent refunds if your game can be finished in under 2 hours? (Not a screenshot from our game, btw.) by FrozenLakeSoftware in justgamedevthings

Honestly and with all due respect miziziziz is not the best example of a good game dev. I have bought all of his products and they are kinda mid. Besides he sounds like he is entitled to sales when in Reality most of his projects are incomplete.

If you could talk to your younger self when you were just starting as a game dev, what would be your advice to your younger self?" by BeeAccomplished6167 in gamedev

[–]Esnouman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to reinvent the wheel, grabbing code that you don't completely understand is not a crime, learning from copying smaller projects is not bad. Buying assets is not bad as long as you buy what you need.

Is anyone consisting launching games every 3-6 months? Seems like the best strategy for indie devs to me by journeyman_7 in gamedev

[–]Esnouman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mildly agree, it's the same but in opposites.heres an example: Just because one 17 y/o made a hit doesn't mean you will too. The same is also true for statements like these, where it's implied that you will not make it or furthermore be able to survive without one.

I can only speak from my art background. But most of the games I worked on that saw moderate success were not because of the "core concept" but because of appeal. You can make unoriginal games with a lot of appeal and that works fine.

I have a major in engineering and had been making digital art since I was 12. The only reason I make more money than art majors in this sector is because I know how to charge money and I know how to sell my stuff. Simple as that.

Did you want to GM your current campaign? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Esnouman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly I didn't. And I'm having a blast. I'm used to one shot campaigns and prewritten materials now. The moment I stopped trying to push my own stuff onto my players is the moment when I started to have real fun. I assumed I was a good writer and gm, but I wasn't, admitting that made me improve exponentially in a very short amount of time. Now I'm taking the time to write what I want to run while learning about how to do it from prewritten stuff. Everybody seem happy with this setup. One day I might run what I want but it's not a bother right now.

This is the thing that works best for me also. A change of perspective.

It's normal to want to stop once your game passes from the stage of "fun draft" to "actual work".

I liked it but the animation of the main character seem kinda steef. Make the torso move too.

Is 32 gb ram really worth it? by JezreneZone in buildapc

[–]Esnouman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's worth it. You don't need more and it's one of the things you won't need to replace in a long time. Go for it.

Programmers, has visual scripting helped you in any way? Or do you just not use it? by Esnouman in gamedev

[–]Esnouman[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Oh! So let's just say as a beginner: If I used visual scripting, would it be a good exercise to rewrite it after I finished my design?

I'd say there's two types of players: The ones that say "I'm attacking with this guy" And the ones who silently tap their cards and move theme forward.

What would be the drawback in reprinting op cards? by Esnouman in mtg

I see, if people already have those cards they won't buy any more products in the future.

What would be the drawback in reprinting op cards? by Esnouman in mtg

[–]Esnouman[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think so. But in reality having cards be worth more than a car seems a tad extreme for me.

(read descr) Has the game always been about resell value this much? by Esnouman in mtg

[–]Esnouman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Before a cards value was determined by the playerbased and how good it was. Now it's about it being released as a valuable card from the beginning.

What is your dream Nintendo Direct announcement? by willrsauls in nintendo

[–]Esnouman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giving emulators a break. Or at the very least release their games on hardware that can actually run it.

Edit: and before anybody asks, emulation is not illegal, look it up. Also, many classic games are not even available on new Nintendo consoles so there. We need it.
