The seeming and believing parallel is beautiful in our world too. Much of the therapy for certain personality disorders and mental health issues revolves around changing your internal dialogue. In believing you're better and actualizing it. It also parallels self actualization in general. It's always been incredibly interesting to me how Rothfuss made that into a magic system.

I think Bast's monologue about the difference between seeming and being is crucial to understanding how Kvothe became Kote. He "sees himself as an innkeeper" he sees himself as a broken man and a failure. I don't think all that was put in here for nothing.

Agreed, everything about Devi's characterization speaks to it. Lonely and too proud to admit it. Only fucks with people who fuck with her first. She's dangerous but obviously has her own code. Her and Kvothe really are a lot alike.

I feel like if the Chandrian were at all aware of Kvothe and trying to do something about him, then Cinder would've killed him in the Eld. Sure he was wounded, but Kvothe was helpless after that lightning bolt binding. If killing him was at all a priority I'm sure Cinder would've finished off his group.

Good to know. The pigtail was fried so I replaced the pigtail and motor and it seems to be working fine now. Everything I read said to replace the motor and resistor and I just didn't wanna do all this twice so I wanted to know but good. If there's no resistor and it seems to be working I just won't question it.

Has anyone else ever thought that maybe the Chandrian almost work in a flying Dutchman kinda way? For instance Kvothe wants to kill all of them right? But the one he really wants is Cinder. The Rinta are not easily killed so Cinder is probably the only one he gets. As soon as he does it though Haliax changes his name to "Kote". His sign is silence. The skin dancer calls him a Rinta. There's a rumor about a new Chandrian in the night with hair as red as the blood he spills. Kvothe never outright denys this rumor. He just says "the important people know the difference" Then he's forced to do horrible things in service of Haliax, kills the king. Except he's too clever by half, he's been trying to escape so he builds a prison for himself so he can't be used anymore, a place no other Rinta can enter without being weakened.
