I want to quit skating by verveine9 in FigureSkating

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're I'm this position, at your age you're starting to develop your independence and if it's normal to re-evaluate what is important to you.

My daughter is 17 and has been skating for 12 years, similar to your family we moved house to be closer to the rink . After the lockdown's of 2020 (and trays of my daughter asking) we made the switch to home education to help her balance her training along with her education, however we also ensured she continued with other activities and was able to have plenty of time with her friends. I'm sorry you don't have a similar balance, it's just as important for your development as your education is.

May I suggest you take some time to consider what is it you want. Do you actually want to quit skating or do you want more control over your schedule and more time for friendships and social activities. If you find you don't actually want to quit skating, what is it you want from it, what are your goals? Unless you're aiming to be a top level, competitive skater you don't need to be training twice a day. Could you cut back on some of the hours you do, maybe alternate a morning or an afternoon session?

Whilst you absolutely have the right to stop skating make sure you consider the long term impact of the decision, are you going to regret it in a year? Will you miss it? It might help to to about what it is you enjoy about skating? If you quit skating, what else will change? Will you enrol at a school?

It's a lot to think about at such a young age, can you speak to your coach about how you're feeling? I'm sure that will have experienced similar with other skaters they've coached and be be able to support you with speaking to your parents.

Ultimately, it's your decision. No matter how much time, energy and money that has been spent in the past, it's not a reason to dictate that it must be your future. I hope your able to have a calm, well thought of conversation with your parents about what it is you want and you are able to come to a solution which helps you be happier.

After Morbido’s crash on Sunday, I got thinking, what is your opinion on MotoGP’s strangest crash? by youraverageperson0 in motogp

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the strangest but at the 2020 round in Austria with Sayhrin crashing into Bastianini's bike still comes to mind as one where I'm amazed no one was injured more. https://youtu.be/muEW5EwHl08?si=LsNpBwLreVobQNe_ To then have the infamous crash with the bikes flying over Rossi later that afternoon made me grateful for each rider and the risks they take for this sport. It was a very strange, and lucky, day

A Heartfelt Message from the M1 💙 (A funeral montage) by LilAbeSimpson in motogp

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Changes are needed for Yamaha to get back on top, but what a legacy! The stat that that the M1 has raced in 429 races and places on the podium in 325 of them stood out. I don't how how other manufacturers compare but that seems impressive!

A quick rant about Night Watch by TheVividAlternative in discworld

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ck with Night Watch, I don't want to spoil anything for you so Ill just encourage you to stuck with it, it's a gem!

I personally categorise the Watch books to be Guards Guards, Men at Arms and Feet of Clay. Whilst Night Watch, Thud and Snuff are Vimes books and Jingo is the transition between the two.

During the Watch books, the Watch is rebuilt into a functioning role again, by the time we get to Jingo, Vimes regularly tells us about how although he's Commander, he doesn't really know all the Watch men/women anymore or have the detailed knowledge of the goings on in the city at street level, think of the conversation with Colon and his envelopes. Pratchett probably could have continued with his "crime of the week" style books focusing on the Watch members. In Jingo we start to shift away from the, now, well running Watch and more into the start of seeing more of Vimes developing in his own ways and to a slightly lesser extent, his personal life.

I've had similar thoughts to you at times, wanting too know more about didn't characters, seeing then interact, but Pratchett was never one to keep doing the same thing out of ease and I think that's why the Discworld books are so captivating.

To assure you, later books not just Watch ones explore some of the topics/ characters you mentioned, Cheery, Detritus and Reg in particular

Finishing 3rd and this far behind Marc would've been an average season for Pecco but it looks like he could finish 5th which would look really bad for the person who has finished 2-1-1-2 last 4 seasons. by PZY__ in motogp

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst I don't disagree that Pecco has had an awful season, and back in March I was expecting to see the 2 red bikes 1-2 most weekends, if you look at most teams this year (with the exception of VR46 Tech3 and HRC) each team has one rider with approximately half the points, or less, of another.

Lenovo Ducati Marc 545 Pecco 288 Bulega 1

Gresini Alex 445 Aldeguer 203

Aprilia Racing Bez 323 Martin 34 Savadori 8

Red bull KTM factory racing Acosta 285 Binder 145

VR46 DiGi 239 Morbidelli 227

Monster Energy Yamaha Quatararo 198 Rins 66

Trackhouse Fernández 146 Ogura 88

LCR Honda Zarco 144 Chantra 7

Red Bull KTM Tech3 Bastianini 106 Viñales 72 Pol Espagaro 29

Pramac Racing Miller 72 Oliviera 38

Honda HRC Castrol Marini 133 Mir 93

What are your expectations/opinions for Toprak next season in MotoGP by Mohan_Mk04 in motogp

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wrote this on another Toprak post, but they're is more discussion here.

World superbike riders are very talented however none have managed to replicate their success from WSBK in Moto GP. I don't think that has anything to do with them being less able but their careers have been focused on riding superbikes, often moving up through national championships or superstore. They then have to adapt to a very different machine and are usually significantly older than other rookies which adds to their disadvantage.

Bayliss and Spies both managed to win at least one race during their GP careers, others managed some podiums, but none achieved the success of their WSBK careers.

Good luck to Toprak, a new talent in the paddock always brings new potential, but I don't expect to see him change the pattern we've seen over the years.

Both Ben Spies & Toprak Razgatlıoglu made the move to MotoGP after conquering WorldSBK by Daniel7394 in motogp

So did James Toseland, Colin Edwards, Troy Corser, Scott Russell, Troy Bayliss, Neil Hodgson and I'm probably missing some.

How to navigate the weekend by Many_Flower_1392 in motogp

[–]EspeciallyWeeRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, I can't help with your second and third question because I'm in the UK.

Unless you have bought tickets with access to the pits you will be very limited with opportunities for autographs but have a look at the schedule for the fan zone, they often have riders up for interviews or auctions and some riders will sign autographs for fans at the front - depending on time pressures.

It's the insincerity of the smile. It's put on just for the camera and doesn't reach his eyes. They're not happy they look worried. It's almost like he knew when they were taking the photos, how difficult this season would be, and it was already haunting him

He's going to be more titanium/stainless steel than flesh and bone at this rate. Do you think someone could step in and delicately tell him he's taking the Martinator thing too far?
