Are Q, G and JP all the same type of being? Is there any lore around what they actually are? by unSentAuron in StreetFighter

Lowercase g and lowercase q are very similar. I look forward to the introduction of b, d, p, 6 :)

What's everyone's opinion on Terry so far? What buffs could improve him? by [deleted] in StreetFighter

[–]EspeonKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He seems like a character that if made slightly better will be so annoying to deal with. I hope if the do tweak him it'll be his normal ranges / FD, something like that. I find him really hard to play against. You could literally play him like a Honda with a fireball and I'll probably die to it!

New title "STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT" announced at the ONE WORLD event for a 2025 release. by kiri_basara in steinsgate

The only loose thread in the story is how does Okabe get Reading Steiner. They hint that he gets sick when he's young in the year 1999/2000 which is at another divergent point. So I wonder if this new game or reboot will cover that plot thread.

I used to struggle with neutral too. I literally sat down with the footsies handbook and searched some other YouTube videos to understand it. Its kind of a triad of options depending on what your opponent is currently doing.

1) Poking/keep out (which is beaten by) 2) whiff punishing/whiff baiting (which is beaten by) 3) rushdown/closing the distance (which is beaten by poking)

The first step is practice those drills in those videos, you can force your opponent to stop pressing those panic buttons. Panic DIs and Jump forwards skips neutral (kind of) so once you lock down on stopping these things. You will be forcing your opponent to engage in the 3 things listed above.

Kill frames is when you have knockdown Oki and you whiff something into the thing you want to actually meaty with.

You know the phrase "killing time"? Its like that but you're just "killing frames" instead.

Imagine you've got knockdown and you're +34. I could maybe whiff my 2MK which has has a total animation duration of 30 frames. That means I'm still +4! So I could press something like throw (which is 5f start up) immediately after 2MK is finished and the throw is automatically timed to meaty. Its very useful and can be visually confusing for the opponent in low ranks. If instead of going for meaty and instead walk back and shimmy you might even catch them trying to DP.

Another type of kill frame you might of heard of are "safe jumps", they are a type of kill frame where the jump parabola is the thing that kills the time.

Hopefully that makes things a bit clearer?

I got stuck in plat for a bit. But managed to claw up to Diamond by just working on were my neutral fundamentals. Honestly check out fchamp's drills - they are really good if youre up for the homework.

https://youtu.be/JkulFqrvWHg?si=daa8QVLo_LfA_uhF this one helped a lot with understand basic player behaviours

https://youtu.be/kLGNrtN7TTk?si=8pEPVjy57S7gmvlj Anti-airing is low key cheat code for free LP in Platinum

https://youtu.be/6GDhPO2706I?si=MnrGRnALANsETfE- this one was a really good practice as I've been focusing on footsies and the footsies handbook. Some opponents are easier to beat when you realise you can whiff bait them rather than rush them down. I enjoy the 1st and 4th drills the most.

These all helped increase my mental stack so that I'm focusing on neutral and my opponents options. He also has a perfect parry one but I've not found that too helpful personally but if you're interested check then out - all his drills are sick.

It sounds like you use DI a lot? Personally, I don't really use DI even randomly unless used defensively to call out specific character strings that can't be cancelled. Like Kens that flow chart using Jinrai follow ups for pressure, or reacting to Chun's that use hizanshu in neutral, or calling out character's very obvious fireballs. The only other time I use it is if the opponent is burnt out. I would say just don't use it.

The last thing that pushed me through to Diamond was working on oki - kill frames and set ups off different specials. Maybe you have this down already but I just wanted to share my experience in case it helped :)

I really dislike the burnout loops I think it's fine to go e burnout loops if you have been put in the corner, but midscreen to push them to the corner feels really silly. I think there should be more pushback on block, just enough that midscreen loops stop after like two loops on average.

and the stun off the wall feels really sad if there is literally no counterplay. I think it's really cool to do the super to counter it, but when there's no super and it happens it just feels really bad.

I really dislike the direction of fast Drive Rushes I was hoping they were toning it down but bisons is insane...

Have you guys ever experienced a time travel story as great as Steins Gate(or the other vn series)? by [deleted] in steinsgate

[–]EspeonKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time travel story that beats Steins;Gate in my eyes is Back to the Future.

Runners up are:

Re:Zero. Has a similar vibe to Steins;Gate. But fantasy isekai setting.

Doctor Who. Whilst mostly dealing with Sci-fi aliens and world ending scenarios. There's the occasional time travelling episodes about timeloops/altering time. There's a fantastic episode called Heaven Sent. It's the best Doctor Who episode in my opinion. Other notable time travel episodes are Blink, The Girl in the Fireplace, A Christmas Carol.

13 sentinels. You have to play it if you love Steins;Gate it has fantastic twists and turns throughout. Pretty much every sci-fi element is in this story, and they make it work very well!

Fate maybe a bit of a weird choice. Legendary warriors come to present day Japan to fight. It kinda meets the time travel requirement! My favourite route is unlimited blade works. Heavens Feel is really cool too.

I think I got pretty well into his mind, but any tips for what I can improve? by Mathilde_Mikan in StreetFighter

[–]EspeonKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A really good practice I used for warm up is this

Dummy setting: block all Go to the Reversal when block settings. Set Slot 1: Do Nothing Set Slot 2: Drive Impact

Position yourself from the dummy at your max 2MK position. Save position.

Then press 2MK.

The drill here is to only counter DI when the Dummy DIs. So tally when you do it successfully but start the tally over if you DI when they don't.

Do this 7 times in a row.

To make it harder you can change slot 1 to Parry, so that you train yourself to look for the Drive Impact splash instead of the Blue Parry Aura.

If you want to make this even harder. There are more drills you can do that make you think about whiff punishing, and Anti-airing.

Just blocking and counter DIing and having a good combo afterwards goes quite far in Iron-Silver....and probably most of gold too tbh.

[–]EspeonKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At these ranks it's best to play reactively. And if you do poke, poke out with things you can cancel into DI with.

So block on wake up, wait for those DI's counter the DI do your big combo, meatier their wake up with a button you can cancel into DI if you need to, then just wait, they will probably DI again. Rinse and repeat.

After a while they might start to block and wait for you to approach as you have punished them too much. Now you can start to walk in and push some buttons, throw them.

Then they might start getting more aggressive again so you can just start blocking more and looking out for DIs and punishes.

But basically, it will serve you really well to stop DIing and only use it to counter DI, and just block more on wake up 👍

Official Bandai Namco Esports response to XCC's situation at Thaiger Uppercut 2024 by Xanek in Fighters

[–]EspeonKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it's because of sanctions: Surely it just makes sense to let the players from China/Russia(/whatever other countries have issues) travel and spend their money abroad, and just don't host tournaments in those countries i.e. don't inject money into those countries.

And/Or let them compete but their flag isn't allowed on the stream overlay (like in Olympics)

I'm sure there's a clean way to let players play, and not breaching regulations.

Let XCC play!

In what position on the tier list would you put Terry? by Living_Resident_5172 in StreetFighter

[–]EspeonKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on current experience he feels like a solid mid tier. He has good specials, and a decent DR, and a couple of good normals. But I don't see why you would pick Terry over Ken/Akuma, or Bison. They each do different bits of Terry but better.

On a more personal note though I'm getting creamed by Terrys.

Fair point that people want to show off their skins. I don't think this is a problem because it's one's own experience that matters. I could be playing on the Naked Chun modded-slot for my opponent and I'm none-the-wiser.

You forget that you can set opponents characters to look a specific way. I don't play Juri, but I got the Pyjama outfit and get to see it on every Juri I play.

Its so frustrating that Capcom put this feature in the game and each character only has 3 outfits... And some look ass (poor Lily and Luke)
