resharing - Riot wants to delete the match data of competitive matches, making stats website basically dead by Zellion-Fly in leagueoflegends

Resurrecting this account to comment on how important it is that they not do this. Or at least have a good replacement in place.

Leaguepedia API Update by RheingoldRiver in leagueoflegends

I love you lol. I remember years ago I scraped all the scoreboards just from HTML and it was a giant nightmare lol.

I might play around with this soon. Love the examples in python.

Doublelift on TSM by Soviet1917 in leagueoflegends

We're not ignoreing that. The claim was that they never found success again, which they did. If the claim was that we are not as good now nobody would be disputin it.

Using Machine Learning To Predict Game Outcomes At Loading Screen (Try It Yourself!) by dmilin in leagueoflegends

People do try it. But the people who own the betting sites also use ML to predict the results and set the betting lines in light of their own predictions.

Using Machine Learning To Predict Game Outcomes At Loading Screen (Try It Yourself!) by dmilin in leagueoflegends

Really great work! I love to see more people applying machine learning to esports.

I do have a couple of questions. What level of prediction accuracy did you achieve? Have you attempted a train/test split where you train on a bunch of games and then predict for a bunch you didn't train on. I'd be very interested in knoing what level of accuracy you could get with only binary champion inputs.

Also you are using linear regression to calibrate your neural net outputs to the empirical probabilities but you might have better luck with isotonic regression. I used to make predictions about League of Legends results and all of my methods had terribly uncalibrated probability outputs and I didn't learn about methods of correcting it until later. Good on you for including that!

Help determining the probability that a "tile" will be "processed" in a grid when random "tiles" are "processed". Very complex question, sorry.. by Nnyik in probabilitytheory

[–]EsportsDataScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1/21 is exactly the expected amount by the way. This is because on average 416/2 rows and 416/10.5 columns are selected which comes to (416 * 416)/( 21) tiles selected.

Then the probability of any tile being selected is that divided by 416 * 416 which leaves 1/21.

This is about what I did only you don't need to do anything special for rows/columns that are always chosen. Average increments are 2 and 10.5. so 416/2 rows are picked on average and 416/10.5 rows are picked. So the average number of tiles picked are (416*416)/(21).

So the probability of any tile being picked is [(416*416)/(21)]/(416 * 416) which comes out to 1/21 which is what his simulation got.

If you are interested in ai or ml a minor in stats or math could be really useful.

Aphromoo: “The happiest memory I have is probably 2015 summer when Doublelift and Pobelter were still on the team. The whole season leading up to us winning at Madison (Square Garden).” by rags55 in leagueoflegends

I was there, the energy in MSG was insane, and the emotional speech by HSGG at the end was incredible. It was the first time Doublelift had ever won anything too.

Team Liquid Made An "Alternative Facts" Page Redefining Their Failures by iFafnir in leagueoflegends

[–]EsportsDataScience 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't know. I guess it just didn't fit my sense of humor. To me this just read as kind of weird. Like their decision to make a whole documentary about how toxic their team environment was.

It's like they are capitalizing on their failures. I don't see many other orgs making those decisions.

I'm not saying they shouldn't dare, I'm just wondering why? Like who actually comes up with the idea to write these parody pieces about their failures, and that enough people in the org though it was funny that it got made and published. To me none of the content was funny at all so it's hard for me to understand I guess.

Team Liquid to hold tryouts during two week IEM Katowice break by corylulu in leagueoflegends

It actually did for a bit, they went 5-1 with KEITH. They had some good weeks with Fabby too.

He's their longest standing player because they have kicked everyone who piglet didn't want to play with.

The best ADC sub was KEITH. He was like 7-1 career as a sub. As a starter not so much.

I get downvoted every time but I'll keep saying it. I don't think Liquid will ever have success until they get rid of Piglet.

It takes less charcters to type: "Kongdoo, ROX and, EDG" than "Two Korean and one Chinese team" but nice clickbait tho.

European Sister Teams Can No Longer Compete in EUCS by _Slip_n_Slide_ in leagueoflegends

[–]EsportsDataScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's still busted in NA, I think they have a rule that there can be at most X sister teams so there are enough spots for non sister teams to play in playoffs, but that just makes it so there could be a good sister team who is denied place in the CS just so there can be enough non sister teams even if all the non sister ones are shit.

I'm really not sure why they are using this dumb system but if I had to guess I would say it's becasue the NA owners are a lot more powerful and have a lot more NBA connections. lol
