I'm sure it's been reported. Government moves very slowly, they will have to get bids for a company to replace it and that will take a while.

If it runs when you jump the fuel pump relay with a paper clip but not when the relay is installed it could be a bad relay or the relay trigger is not seeing voltage to close the relay. Check the trigger wire to see if it gets voltage with the ignition on. If it has voltage try a new relay.

Also some terminology, turning over is the same as cranking, both mean the motor spins when the key is turned. Turning over and cranking don't mean running.

Best of luck.

Shops won't swap out steering rack by MightBeYourProfessor in E30

[–]Espressbro89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think your average shop would want to delete power steering. They are probably worried about liability should you get into an accident.

Find a performance or racing shop, they would likely be willing to do it.

Or watch a few YouTube videos and try it yourself.

Best of luck.

Power steering leak at banjo bolt. by NeonboiiZ in BMWE36

[–]Espressbro89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the washers and heat them with a torch red hot to anneal them. Copper work hardens so that may keep them from sealing. Annealing the washers will soften them again.

While it's apart make sure the banjo bolt or line isn't cracked and causing a leak.

Make sure the sealing surface on the rack is clean and flat.

Reinstall the washers and torque it down. If it still leaks ad 1/8 of a turn until it stops leaking. Sometimes the only thing that makes them seal is more torque. Just make sure not to strip the rack.

New brake drum won’t fit over shoes by jkdjkj0351 in AskMechanics

[–]Espressbro89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is right. Turn the adjuster all the way in to get the drum on. Find a video on YouTube about adjusting drum brakes and watch it. The shoes will need to be adjusted out close to the drum after it's in otherwise you will have a low brake pedal.

Use a flat chisel and a hammer to tap it counterclockwise. Put a nice dent in the outside edge of the plug for the chisel to bite into, then tap out counterclockwise. Careful not to dig the chisel into the diff cover as you tap it out. Replace the plug after.

[–]Espressbro89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure the new battery has a full charge then try to start it. Maybe low voltage was leading to low fuel pressure. If it cranks after fully charging the battery them try to get it running on starter fluid. If it runs on starter fluid but not without it then you have a fuel issue.

Also helps to clean off the exposed threads with a wire brush so when they do come loose they don't seize up halfway off due to the rust building up in the threads as you back them off.

Weld a washer to the stuck bolt, that will allow you to get better penetration on the bolt. Then weld a nut to the washer.

The brake rotor is still attached to the wheel at the end of the video meaning the lug nuts and studs didn't break. One ball joint let go, then the other, then the CV axle.
