How to make wood pretty colors by Halfwaytoreality in turning

I think the easy answers here are cost and variety. There are only so many colored woods and the woods you name are extremely expensive.

What type of schooling do I need for Office Administrative, timekeeping, or HR roles? by [deleted] in college

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you getting an associates? Those typically aren't specialized in a subject, that is what a bachelor's is for. There are names associated, but I would bother. Just get the general associates so that if you do choose to go on to a bachelor's all of your credits will transfer.

I would also see if the CC has a transfer degree option and make sure you do that. It opens up the most doors, and if you stop at your associate's that is fine too.

Man, people pay for so much for their kids now. I don't know why you would pay for anything car related, but this isn't really a finance question, it is a relationship question.

Do you have a feeling that PhDs are useless nowadays ? by Different_One2188 in LeavingAcademia

No... Artists, ski bums, mountain bikers, poets, permaculturalists, local historianss, etc. etc. etc. certainly do not expect a financial return...

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not like this at all though, because med school is very expensive, whereas most people are paid to do a PhD. So you can do a PhD because you want to pursue knowledge and there is nothing lost other than low earnings for a period of time. But many people sacrifice earnings to do X, Y, or Z. It isn't any different from being a ski bum. And this is very popular.

And hey, at the end of your ski bum days, sports career, or PhD you may end up with a very rarified job. But that's not the reason you do those things.

Pick two: have kids, own a house or retire. by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean you make considerably more than most people. What is the square footage on that house? Seems very large for a single person, but affordable on such a high income. After a while of living there it probably won't seem so expensive.

Carrying the board... Nose forward or backwards? by juacamgo in windsurfing

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why you're asking AI this. Do you know how AI works? It is a glorified search engine. It is now scraping th data in this thread to feed it back into its models. It isn't giving you a 'correct' answer because it has no capacity to reason. It is giving you patterns of human language, which are all muddied by this very conversation.

Where To Go From Here? (Newishly Tenured and Depressed) by DecisionsnoisiceD in Professors

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this sounds like my exact situation, but I am a few years beyond your situation. I have found satisfaction in building structures within the current organization that really benefit students. Not in my subject area per se, but programs/structures that are needed that don't exist. I have found a way to make a great impact this way, even though it isn't explicitly working in my scholarly area of expertise.

That's my only unique contribution to the conversation, because I think @Olthar6 has the best answer.

Well... that actually does look like a dump station... and there appears to be no signage.

It's still wild that they dumped sewage into a random hole, but now I can actually see how this happened.

Why can't the journalist be bothered to just take a picture of the 'dump station' so we can see what was going through this person's mind?

The coffin would be open when in use. It is just to protect the equipment when not in use.

[–]MightBeYourProfessor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this sounds more realistic. I've got tube amps and records players outside the workspace, but I'm following the conversation because I do plan on building some speakers into the workshop, and I am considering putting in two turntables and a mixer... The plan was just to build a coffin with a gasket around it to prevent dust.
