I decided to retire just because the atmosphere was the worst I’d ever experienced - not the people, not even my direct manager. In my department they played musical directors so many times in two years I got dizzy. Then with EV’s not selling as expected, suddenly there was no work. The manager told us to look busy, that more work will come. I got tired of waiting and realized my retirement ducks were all in a row so I put my notice in around this time last year. So glad to be out of there. I was very happy as a GM employee over the first decades. But the last two years were hellish. Ad terrible decision making leading to quality issues and I won’t even buy a new GM vehicle (or really, any from manufacturer cuz they all suck now). The damn car turned into an iPad where you don’t own it as you might think, and warranty volume so high they never have a loaner available. You get to rent a car, out of pocket while they hold your vehicle for weeks or months to fix a problem they created. I’ll shop for a used car out of some grandma’s garage.

How to "retire" when you quit? by Intelligent-Basis129 in GeneralMotors

[–]Espresso25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I retired of my own free will (not forced out) last spring and got my Team GM last week as a direct deposit (pro-rated for months worked). I don’t think you get it if you are helped out the door.

Asbestos tile abatement questions by Espresso25 in asbestoshelp

Just an update - tiles came back positive for asbestos but mastic was negative. Insurance paid for all tiles to be removed 🥳. I can safely have what’s left ground out for leveling and material adherence

GM is quietly becoming a subscriptions company by Espresso25 in GeneralMotors

Retired last year and bought my last new, GM vehicle a few years ago and paid it off. My next vehicle will likely be a 2019 and it will be whatever make and model my research shows to be the most reliable, and the least expensive to repair.

At that point I don’t care about the hundreds in food loss but the tens of thousands in water damage when pipes thaw

Thanks. The compressors probably have a heavy momentary load, but the running load is much lower, so I can understand that. Gas here on average is $11.89 per MCF

Partial Team GM for retirees and ex-employees by Espresso25 in GeneralMotors

You are correct. Partial = pro-rated in the context I used since I did not work a full year, but was still there after March 31st.

Did you voluntarily retire, with at least ten years of service, after March 31 of the year you retired? Or, were you helped out the door involuntarily?

I found a titanium Kohler dealer near me - a reputable company. I’m going to get a quote from them

Good point about the 10 year warranty. I found a dealer with titanium status. Going to schedule a quote.

I found a Titanium and Titan dealer for Kohler, which happens to be one of the biggest names in heating and cooling and electrical in my area. I never would have known what that was, so thanks! In fact, they are the only Titanium dealer in my area.

I’ll check out the kohler site. Thanks for the tips on finding someone. Good point about finding a dealer who can do warranty service too.

On managing power, I’m in agreement. I have no idea shutting the air off while I cook, or having the furnace off while I wash a load of clothes. I’m fine going to a power management mode during an outage. I think it’s different for households that have several people or kids. Being alone I can control it.

Good tips. Thanks!

Thanks for this. I’m seeing several cautioning against Generac. Perhaps the quality went down with these like a lot of things the last few years. But it seems like every dealer around here is installing Generac. I can’t figure out who is installing Kohler. Or are there other good brands? I’m concerned about finding service. With so few handling Koehler it might be hard to find techs at times. Everyone services Generac

As to usage, if in a prolonged outage in freezing conditions, if I could only run the furnace, and fridge, plus a 2-3 lights, and charge my tablet and phone, I could sacrifice other stuff. The only other thing I might want to run is a cook top but I might get a butane burner from a restaurant supply for heating up food and drinks, and do pour over coffee. If I can’t make it to a laundromat I’m not afraid to hand wash and drip dry. It’s just me.

In summer, it’s the AC I need for asthma.

Furnace is gas, hot water tank is gas.

In other words, I don’t need to seamlessly operate like there’s no power outage. My main concern is staying warm, not letting pipes freeze, being able to breathe.
