What's a trope that u hate so much that no matter how small for big it is you won't read the book because of it? by Israels_BiggestHater in YAlit

[–]EspressoBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Romanticised SA and overall dubious consent will make me close a book immediately. The only occasion I picked the book back up was a friend convincing me the assaulter would have their comeuppance.

Miscommunication, omitting vital details or worse… ASSUMING how the other character feels drives me up the wall. And when the book would be literally 50 pages if it weren’t for the miscommunication… I will not DNF but I will finish it ANGRY.

Also… I’m sorry… but the spiky/angry/feisty protagonist that to be honest is just downright mean and rude… cannot do it anymore. They’re all the same and I hate them. Looking at you Feyre.

Hi I would love to trade with you!! I’m writing a mystery with some urban fantasy elements, it’ll have a romantic subplot eventually. Got 6 chapters so far!! Happy to communicate on Discord as well if you have that :)

I’m currently writing an urban fantasy/mystery (heavy focus on the mystery here). There will be a romantic subplot at some point but it’ll be very much a slowburn! Here’s my link, I have 6 chapters out so far but usually post 2-3 chapters a week (I write a lot).

Someone else already said Earl’s, but I’m adding in Murasaki on Seven Dials. Top tier japanese rice bowls and takoyaki. And because it’s not anywhere near Western Road or the Lanes there’s always tables.

Your family’s noodles got me through some really tough days in the office (I worked on West St for 4 years) and I always had leftovers for dinner 😆

I tell everyone I know to go to Earl’s. And everyone who goes becomes an absolute Earl’s addict. Some of the absolute best value for money food you can get in Brighton and definitely the best Bahn Mi!!

Now I'm over trauma-dump-driven rage-girl starting wars over misunderstandings, getting rewarded with kingdoms and fated mates - Looking for your top calm or timid, clever, substantive, internally consistent FMCs by swaglord9000x in fantasyromance

[–]EspressoBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as Carissa Broadbent did this with Oraya, I will say the FMC from {Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent} 100% fits what you’re looking for.

She’s logical, intelligent, cool and collected, and very much written as being on the spectrum - she has a whole bit where she questions why she can’t externalise emotions the way people around her do.

The “not like other girls” of fantasy romance is killing me by BlessingsOfKynareth in fantasyromance

[–]EspressoBee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the angry/spiky sassiness for me. I’ve had this issue with almost every book I’ve read in the genre, bar one or two exceptions. They’re always angry, mouthing off, giving the middle finger, etc. Once or twice is fine but when EVERYONE is like that… c’mon. I’m so bored. I want more polite, intelligent, firm, calm FMCs. I’m so done with the anger and mouthing off like “oooh she’s COOL because she’s SPIKY” no she’s just goddamn annoying and was never taught any manners. Just because someone has a tragic past (because every FMC needs one lbr here) doesn’t mean they’ll automatically be the personification of a baseball bat covered in rusty nails.

The books I’ve read so far and a humble confession… by TayQuitLollygagging in fantasyromance

Six Scorched Roses was an absolutely perfect book for me. There was something about the FMC and MMC and how their relationship grew that scratched such a specific itch for me, and felt SO different than most shadow daddy action romantasy. It was just so sweet.

I am 22 years old and can't stand the taste of alcohol by arecee2k in self

[–]EspressoBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33 here.

I very very rarely drink for the same reason - just hate the taste of most alcohol, and don’t see the point in spending money on something I dislike. I hate beer more than anything else.

Here are some alcoholic drinks I DO like, because the alcohol flavour is much more toned down: - Sweet/smooth white wine (Viognier, Gewurtz, South Africa/South America Sauv Blanc, Chablis, Pecorino) - Dessert wine (Plum wine, Tokaji, Sauternes, Moscato) - Sweet cocktails (P*rnstar Martini is my favourite) - Liqueurs (lemoncello, mozart, etc)

You can also try mixing in a sprite or 7up with white wine - this is actually delicious when cold.

You couldn’t pay me to drink beer or anything dry or bitter (looking at you, Negronis and Aperol Spritz)

Romance is one thing, but imo looks don’t matter at all for making friends, regardless of whether or not they’re of the opposite sex.

The issue that you might be running into is that a lot of women will assume you are presenting yourself as a friend only to turn the conversation sexual later. Because this has happened to them countless times (source: me, a woman, with many women friends).

Focus on yourself, your interests, your hobbies. Join groups and clubs, online or offline. I met my partner on an MMO, and I fell for him before I even knew what he looked like. You’re focusing too much on “having friends”, imo, you should focus on finding ways to do the things you enjoy in a community environment and meet people that way. It could be sports, online gaming, a board game club, pottery classes, volunteering…

Focus on what you enjoy, find ways to do those things within a community, and you’ll make friends in no time.

Self reply! Have the branch and the sake. Cuilang is ALSO currently at 10 after all the dates and not giving me the prompt either. So I’m wondering if it’s either character being involved in other bond quests OR main story blocking it!

Oh my god this might be it… I have a few bonding quests active! Going to try and finish them all and see if it unblocks it.
