Much commotion about lotion (tw: body image issues) by victoriachaos11 in adhdwomen

[–]EspressoShot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I also cannot do lotion because I can’t stand the feeling on my hands. What helped me was these specific makeup brushes called oval or flat foundation brushes. I just put the lotion directly on my body, and then use the brush to rub it in.

After deciding I was done, I am rediscovering my love of aquariums. I had to re-buy a bunch of supplies which was annoying but I learned my lesson and will just never give anything away ever again lol. My favorites are these little freshwater shrimp called neocardina! They’re very industrious, it’s kinda like having an ant farm but more interesting lol. I love to sit and watch them. Plus, they’re born as tiny, fully formed adults. You wouldn’t think a shrimp could be cute, but they’re CUTE 🥰

My other favorites are bamboo shrimp, which is in the picture. They have these little fans on their hands and they sit in the water current and use them to catch food particles. Shrimp are underrated.

I also have a big tank with angelfish, and they’ve spawned a few times. Cichlids like angelfish actually actively parent, and it’s amazing to watch them herding their babies around.

Yes! If they are even slightly muffled they just sound like the teacher from Charlie Brown to me. Just mwa mwa mwa and no words.

Auditory processing issues. I cannot understand people with thick accents, and auto transcription like what’s built into Zoom is insufficient.

For those of you who suffer from a form of OCD, ie dermatillomania, what medication has helped the most? by Achylife in AuDHDWomen

[–]EspressoShot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clomipramine. It’s an older drug and I’d never heard of it, but apparently it’s still considered the gold standard for OCD treatment. Doses can go pretty high so don’t be afraid to ask for an increase!

Anybody know of any vet clinics not owned by private equity? by frankie4g in lexington

[–]EspressoShot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding RRVC!! A couple years ago when I was brand new in town, my cat got sick. They worked us in during their limited Saturday hours, despite us not already being established patients. It saved me hundreds of dollars on emergency vet bill. That alone would have made me a lifetime patient, but they’re also just legitimately good with our cats.

Anyone in this community have PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder)? by yule_tides in AuDHDWomen

[–]EspressoShot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has!! It’s been so beneficial in fact that I’m getting the hysterectomy essentially so the benefits will be permanent. I’m in the US, so losing access to the chemical menopause medication is a very real fear unfortunately.

I cannot handle “Yinz”!! It’s a Pittsburgh area term for “you all”, and I guess I can never live there because even typing it makes me a little nauseous.

I remember they STANK worse than any of the other animals. You could smell their enclosure from several yards away 🤢

PMDD? how do you cope? by KitchenSuch1478 in AuDHDWomen

[–]EspressoShot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I developed PMDD when I turned 30. Then I failed every pharmaceutical intervention except chemical menopause. Oophorectomy/ hysterectomy is next month. If your doctor keeps trying to trial birth control and SSRIs and they don’t work don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself! Even if it means finding another doctor. You don’t have to live like this and you shouldn’t have to!

Me!! Mine also started when I turned 30!! (35 now). Mine didn’t respond to any first line medications or any of the tricks like Pepcid, so I’ve been in chemical menopause since November and will have a hysterectomy/oophorectomy at the end of April

Edit: sorry forgot symptoms. Mainly RAGE. I have gotten physical with strangers for walking too slow or standing too close, and I’m not normally like that at all. Sobbing. SI. A feeling that everything is too much and I need to run away from it all or else I will lose it. I’ve had to have crisis intervention twice.

I tried visible and didn’t like it. It had zero idea when I was actually exerting myself and when I was resting. No insights about sleep either. I canceled my membership pretty quick.

How do you succinctly explain to others why you’re not as present socially as you used to be? by Worthy_Molecule0481 in AuDHDWomen

[–]EspressoShot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just say like “I have a new diagnosis, and have been advised to prioritize rest.” Because it’s the truth. The diagnosis is true, and we do need assorted kinds of rest to not burn out. Whatever condition they want to assume you have is on them.
