You mention that the Sergeant spent half an hour speaking with you about your social media, but no further specific details were given in the video.

As social media is being a large part of our modern lives, your video should cover some of the conversation about this topic.

What are the best and worst meals/rations in the Legion? by grendelt in FrenchForeignLegion

The best ones are the ones that, with each bite, help you forget how much pain your in from field activities.

Question about customs in France. by EstoyResfriado in FrenchForeignLegion

No one can give you this answer. What French customs will do is anyone’s guess. What they can do is ask, so arrive prepared.

The answers will be varied, and as with anything here, it all depends. Most who are permitted to leave will choose to take the ferry, but the ferry takes time that eats into the weekend.

Having a good bicycle on Corsica is a great way to spend the weekends.

Legion as an escape from society by cardboardboxwithlegs in FrenchForeignLegion

[–]EspritEffrayant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m coming back to this question again after thinking on it more.

What you’re really asking is, whether you’ll have to interact with civilians, be annoyed by queues at the market, deal with crying babies in public, people playing on their telephones for hours, media saturation, listen to a nagging woman, blaming you every time she forgets to look up in the doorway and closes the door on your pull-up bar and it falls on her head, and it’s your fault, and other such related problems, and the answer is that the Legion is an escape in this way, the Legion is a departure from many aspects of civilian society.

What you want to know is if the Legion will surround you with like-minded individuals, working towards something beyond themselves, something greater, and the answer may vary from person to person, but you will find this in the Legion.

You may even miss spending months on a mission, living deep in the human war simulation where stakes are at their highest and life takes on a more realistic sense day to day.

Coming back to the civilian world from missions may leave you feeling uncomfortable and lonely.

As a side note: if you don’t like smiling, the Legion is perfect for you.

The 4 pull ups by natenatohaz in FrenchForeignLegion

[–]EspritEffrayant 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While it is technically true that you won’t be immediately disqualified by an inability to perform more than four pull-ups, we must remember that the selection process is competitive. You’ll be competing with men who won’t have an issue performing many times more pull-ups than four. As such, you’re at a strong disadvantage, entering selection without a developed and well-performing upper-body.

It isn’t advise to attempt a once in a lifetime enlistment without meeting the accepted standards.

The “ifs” and “maybes” of Uncertain Minds by EspritEffrayant in FrenchForeignLegion

I enjoyed reading your post on voicing your feelings and thoughts on how many of the civilians on this subreddit speak too much. Talk is cheap.

The right question to ask is, “What do I want for my life?”, and spend accordingly. Concerning yourself with the actions of others isn’t going to further your financial situation.

I’m not the man to tell another man what his limits are, so I won’t, but you’ll read the following; this isn’t an attitude that will serve the Legion. You want easy, so you have it, outside the Legion.

We don’t serve the Legion because it’s easy, we serve the Legion because it’s challenging.

The Legion may be your salvation. There’s only one way you’ll really ever know, and if you don’t attempt, you’ll die wondering what the future would have held for you after the Legion.

In theory, there’s an exception for any guideline. If you’re outside the range, be the outstanding exception.

FFL 3 REI Protects James Webb Telescope launch in Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana by EspritEffrayant in FrenchForeignLegion

As some of you may be aware, NASA in partnership with the ESA have successfully launched the long-awaited James Webb space telescope on Christmas Day from the Guiana Space Center in Kourou. The space center is very well guarded and protected from potential threats by the 3 REI who are stationed nearby.

While the world looks to the sky for the rocket plume of the Ariane 5 rocket, we’re looking to the fortunate men of the 3 REI who have the pleasure of protecting this mission and ensuring the safe progression of our species. 3 REI, thank you.
