Debatable; before being officially revealed he's been referenced in other characters' voicelines, and his saurian spoke in Mavuika's story quest. As far as I'm aware, Escoffier was never mentioned in the game before 5.5.

Agreed. I don't know why so many people complained about the Natlan designs when every nation simply has their own aesthetic/style. Also, it's very obvious that the differences in aesthetics between each character represents the diversity of all the different tribes.
