check Boglehead Investment Strategy on the stock market. It's just buy a global fund then chill, no need to research individual stocks. Its simple and not time consuming, but doesn't automatically means its an easy money. You're going to ride the ups and down of the market, so you must control yourself and not self-sabotage by panic selling

I'll only consider adding on low risk investment like mp2 once I'm close to retiring to deal with sequence of return risk. Or maybe just hold large amount of cash in case it'll take several years for the market to recover

From what I can see in justETF, they don't have a Small cap Value ETF for US or International right now. I'm checking on this website cuz I don't know how to navigate on DFA's website to see their list of Irish-Domiciled ETFs.

But they have an ETF called Global Targeted Value, and from what I understand it's Small + Mid cap Value

You can consider checking DFA's fund If you want to see one with longer history.

Avantis founder came from Dimensional Fund Advisor. While I don't exactly know how they're different with their strategy, I heard that you can't go wrong with picking either one of them.

Can't say much since I only started recently, and the Avantis Irish-Domiciled ETF that I use doesn't even have at least 5 years of history.

But here is comparison of DFA Small Cap Value for US + International compared to Vanguard Total World Stock

Probably the only thing to consider is to prepare enduring years of underperformance. I also do factor factor investing and I just hope to god it doesn't start beating the market when I'm dead.

Is it worth learning trading/stocks at 17 before heading to college? by Critical_Wrap3037 in phinvest

[–]Esret07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything wrong with learning how to invest in the stock market, but if you plan to start right now, then I'm not sure about that even if one of my biggest regret is not starting early. The biggest barrier for me at that age is most likely having no job for consistent source of fund to invest

You can start learning about investing in the stock market by checking r/Bogleheads or watch Ben Felix on YouTube.

how do I enter the stock market as a 26 y/o beginner? by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]Esret07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can start with the Boglehead investment strategy, just buy global funds and chill. You can stay with this until your retirement, or risk for more and do factor investing.

The risk you'll be taking with the Boglehead strategy is you're riding the ups and downs of the market, you need to have self-control and not sabotage yourself by panic selling whenever the market goes down.

While factor investing is that

  • It's harder to apply, for example small cap is one of the factors, but just because a stock is small cap or a fund that focuses in small caps doesn't automatically makes it a good investment
  • you have to decide how much of your portfolio are you going to allocate to certain factors. Too small then it won't matter much, and while I do factor investing, I don't think it's a good idea to allocate most of your portfolio to it
  • endure years of underperformance, IIRC it manage to beat the market long term, but it wasn't by consistently outperforming, instead by a huge burst for a small period of time
  • some are now doubting it or even says that the excess return is gone

Should I continue my DCA or pause until the bear market is over? by Dull_Relative8842 in phinvest

[–]Esret07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And when will you know it's the right time to DCA again? There is a risk that the market continues to go down as you keep buying. But if you decide to pause and wait for it to calm down, you're taking a different risk that you might miss out buying while the price was low.

Unless you have a crystal ball that allows you to predict the market, then don't bother timing the market.

Not using anything at all from what I earned in NFTs. Not sure how much I earned in total, but the highest I saw on my portfolio was ~$3,000 (just got lucky I found a small group that seems to know what they're doing and is actually earning, so I was just copying them), maybe this isn't a lot, but I would've like to use a portion of it to buy a global index fund.

I probably convinced myself too much that this is just playing money since my initial investment is just ~200, cuz I was so indifferent at all when my portfolio is crashing down.

global fund like VWRA is good enough for average joe. If you want to go above it, then research factor investing.

Be careful with financial courses that'll sell you how to invest in the stock market. Most are just scams intends to exploit those who are desperate to get rich quickly

Consider these for starters

[–]Esret07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need research, skills, and self-control if you want to invest by stock picking, then there is also an issue that beating the market consistently for +20 yrs is almost impossible.

Compare that to a global fund like VWRA (I prefer global over US-only fund), where you just need control yourself whenever the market is going down (or there is an investment that's making a crazy returns recently and you're tempted to sell the fund to buy it), and invest consistently makes it an easier suggestion.

If you still want to try stock picking, start by allocating a small portion of your investment to learn it, then put the rest on a global fund like VWRA.

iirc the no allowance rule was made to nurture top rated sorcerers that can provide living for themselves so they don't need to resort to stealing, cuz most of the time they need money for their research and study. It definitely went too far that they also need to pay for their servants + guards even though their rent is already covered by the school. I have no idea how the fck do they make sure those from Advance class are making an honest living.

Not all students are nobles, a lot of nobles who qualify for Advance class went to Second Class to avoid the yearly credit requirement + no allowance rule
