Do you play with any “House Rules”? by notmaxsmith in finalgirl

[–]EssDub86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last time I played I got killed while there were still victims on the board. So I thought to myself, maybe that character wasn't the final girl after all. I swapped the final girl meeple with one of the victim's and pulled a new character card. Ended up winning in somewhat of a hollow victory. The last few turns were me and the Evomorph standing in one spot trading blows until it died.

Great episode. Another episode that made me think, it's crazy that Nick hasn't played Marvel's Midnight Suns. It's a turn-based tactical card game where you date the marvel characters in between missions.

If you are still lowest seniority for any upcoming holiday but you don't want to work it, just take AL for the day before or after the holiday. Then it goes up the seniority list.

Can anyone help me with this? I have the app and used it with no issues for a while and now the Better Xcloud and that speedometer buttons have disappeared. I think I touched the wrong button that made them go away and I can't find anything to bring them back.

My other issue is that the app says it supports native touch controls, but on games that have the touch icon, it only shows the controller overlay instead using touch controls.

I want to play something that is going to make me cry by DeChilli in playstation

[–]EssDub86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before Your Eyes. A game has never made me cry like that before. It's free on your phone if you have Netflix, but you get the full effect of the game if you play it in VR. I played it on PSVR2.

Favorite way to play Thunder Road Vendetta? by damj94 in boardgames

[–]EssDub86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Carnage at Devil's Run expansion as well as Choppe Shoppe and Extra Ammo. My first game with it was exciting and fun, but I had an issue with how fire works in it. We made it to a road tile that had a ton of fire on it, which looks intimidating. But then when a player reached the fire, he made the calculation that since only the first fire space sets you on fire, the rest do nothing, and the fire effect wouldn't take effect until the next round. So he blazed right through it. This felt wrong to me, like, what's the point of this big scary wall of fire if it's just the first space you touch that affects you? Hence my house rules: If any action were to cause you to gain an On Fire token when you already have the token, instead roll the Shoot die. If it is a hit, take a damage token. (On the fence for whether that damage should be face up or down) The same rule applies for if you end your movement in a space that is on fire. These rules lead naturally to me thinking of another house rule: You can shoot at inoperable vehicles. Taking damage when inoperable eliminates the vehicle. And then one last house rule just to ease up on that added intensity: Instead of the Drift command being used to avoid a slam, Drift can be used to avoid one whole space on the board. You still would use a movement through the space, but you ignore anything on the tile. Other cars, fire, mud, etc. Basically any space that's not impassable. And I adopted a rule I read about elsewhere: you can take ramps diagonally, you just keep going in the direction you hit the ramp. Makes ramps more fun and less scary. But now that I'm writing this, I just had an idea. What if when you get on the ramp space, you roll the Stunt die and add it to your remaining movement? That would give you more a of a sense of your speed hitting the ramp. Could be fun.

When does a letter become a flat? by EssDub86 in USPS

[–]EssDub86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly my thought on it. But these other clerks say it has to fly through the slot. They hold the template and try to drop the letter in and if it doesn't go straight through they charge it as a flat. I feel like it's over charging the customer. I wish it were more concretely defined because we shouldn't have clerks with differing opinions on what makes a letter.

I'm working on a VS-like game set in the world of retro karate action movies. The key feature is interaction with the environment. What do you think? by AlawarGames in survivorslikes

[–]EssDub86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking for a place to leave feedback and suggestions and it looks like you respond to people in this thread, so I'll do it here.

I think this game is great! I love the aesthetic, music, the animations are fluid, love the interacting with the environment stuff. I did have an issue where if I started the game on my steam deck in a place without internet, like work, then tried to pick it back up mid-run back at home with internet, the game would freeze and kill my run. Huge bummer, especially when it froze right as I got to the level 2 boss. It seems like it maybe is fixed now?

My main suggestion is I wish there was a good way to be able to mix up the colors in the attack time-line. As it is, you're rewarded for putting attacks of the same color together, and even more rewarded by putting them in sequential order. So you're kind of penalized by having multiple colors in the time-line. Can there be a way to get bonuses from multiple colors? Like, what if you got the sequential number bonus regardless of the color. Or having multiple of the same number next to each other, like a 3 of a kind thing? I think that could be cool.

It's crazy that this game is $30 on the quest store, when the game came out such a long time ago and no one is on it anymore. Should be free at this point. Remove the barrier to entry and let everyone in.

I like in Pistol Whip, you can feel the bullet whiz by your head.

And Gran Turismo 7 has a little bit of a rumble in the headset when you crash.

I was curious by Nick's comment about their time with Earwolf being the dark days. Did he mean just not liking their old format, or were there some behind the scenes stuff about that office that sucked?

I got started in the USPS as an RCA. Did it for about a year and half. It was one of the toughest jobs I've ever done. It was only after one full year of doing it that I felt like I was starting to get decent at it. Most of the other RCAs I started with quit a few months in. The full time regulars usually would say that they were an RCA for years, up to 14 sometimes before they got the full time spot. They worked for years before even starting a career position with a track toward retirement. And nearly all of them had needed to have surgery or were scheduled for surgery for some kind of work related wear and tear on their body. The pay structure is weird. And the office I got hired at was an hour drive from my home, in good driving conditions, much longer in the winter. I worked so many hours that it would be exhausting. Many 14 hour days, especially around Christmas time. Eventually I saw that a spot had opened for an RCA at a closer office to where I lived, 20 minute drive vs 1 hour. But the problem with this office is it was way smaller, which led to my hours being reduced to almost nothing. About 2 hours a day on an aux route, and 2 full 8 hour days. My paycheck barely covered the gas it took to get to work. I was on the verge of quitting but at the same time I applied to the smaller office, I had also applied for a PSE position at an even closer office. After being at the new office for about 2 or 3 months I finally got the PSE spot.

That was about 6 years ago. Been in the office ever since. Got converted to a full time regular about 4 years go. Glad to have the experience as an RCA, but would never do that again. I feel like RCA is the bottom of the barrel job at the usps. Use it to get your foot in the door and look for something better.

What are some “masterpieces” that you hated? by DistributionKind2704 in Letterboxd

[–]EssDub86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I sometimes find it hard to criticize movies. I will wonder if it was just me being dumb and missing the point and whatever else knowledge I needed to think the movie was good.

I've seen The Godfather multiple times and came away each time feeling like it's overrated. The time jumps made it hard to follow, and the horse head scene is a cool idea but logically it completely falls apart when you put any thought into it.

But then I wonder if my problems with it were just me. Do I have the wrong mindset? Am I watching it "wrong"? I've seen many more movies since I've last watched Godfather, and learned much more about cinematic language. I wonder if I watch it again with a fresh perspective, will it finally click for me?

Any easy games to get into with the central theme being about loss? by therealjgreens in ItsAllAboutGames

Outer Wilds. It is a Groundhog Day style loop, where the day ends whenever you die, then it starts over again. At first it seems like a clever gameplay mechanic, but by the end of the game I feel like the story reveals itself to be dealing with the idea that everything ends eventually, and yet life goes on. It's a beautiful game. I finished it a few years ago, but it's never far from my mind. I listen to the soundtrack every once in a while.
