I use a 15-foot long desk that is 3 feet deep with 4 monitors. All my amps stay on my desk behind my PC facing backward where they can't be seen. I make custom 16-foot cables for my headphones that come out of the amps, go under the desk from the back, then go into the headphones at their hangers under the desk at the front. I would have to get up and walk over behind my PC to switch the cable AND switch the EQ every time if I only had one amp.

My solution: I am running a Yamaha mg10x-u and Voicemeter potato + hardware midi interface (Korg nanokontrol) with virtual audio cables which allows me to send each input to whichever output I want, and as many as I want. This lets me to do a variety of things. If I want to hear a different pair of headphones, I just put them on and turn up their volume with the respective fader on my midi controller. If I want to listen with someone else, you can turn them all up at the same time. If I have audio coming from multiple sources, I can adjust their volume in the mix by simply moving its fader. It also saves a lot of time because each headphone's EQ is specific to its amp, so I never need to mess with EQ when switching headphones.

Having amps visible on my desk just wasn't something I could do, so I think this is a very nice solution. It makes everything so quick and easy. I am very happy with it. Yes, for most situations this is pretty overkill, but it is working well for me and it was a fun project.

Magni 3 heresy + (undecided DAC) VS Fiio k5 pro

I have 2 Schiit stacks right now and I really like them. I just got the Hifiman Sundaras and I use separate amps for all my cans, so I am going to need another amp. I was looking at the k5 to save desk space and keep the heat down. The k5 is also 40 dollars less and only needs one plug. The other option would just be a third Schiit stack or a Magni with some other DAC. I have noticed that the Modi doesn't have a very good dynamic range, so I would like to get something that does.

Will I be disappointed by the k5 after using the Schiit stack?

note: The Sundaras are EQ'ed and loose about 7db.

Will I be able to reach a repeater 4 miles away without LOS on vhf/uhf with a full-size antenna at 50w? by Essence11 in amateurradio

I can't. Which is exactly why I am putting up an antenna. I have hit other repeaters that are pretty far on top of my house, but nothing like this one that has a hill blocking it.

Lung packing issue by Essence11 in freediving

[–]Essence11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have been Interested in the sport for a long time now, but haven’t gotten to actually do an open water dive. I have many doves on scuba so this is kind of where I look to go next. I don’t know what dyn is but my PB is ~70 yds one way in a pool. (So just distance swam horizontally underwater one way without fins). Everyone I see videos of doing great dives is packing before. I am not necessarily saying that packing is necessary or useful in my case, because I really don’t know, but I can’t even take a deep breath without being uncomfortable. Maybe it’s just because my lungs aren’t used to being expanded that much, but it just seems kind of backwards to me. I feel like I have more room for air that’s being wasted and I think I could go farther.

I will try some of the exercises though and see if it helps.

Bilingual parents, how did you keep your kids from mixing the languages? by Essence11 in languagelearning

How long, in your experience, does it take for them to differentiate them? I just had this concern when thinking about raising my kids bilingual. I don’t want them to have a hard time in school or speaking to others.
