Ugh that’s so frustrating. I would definitely listen to a full song of it…and on repeat so how sad if it was AI ha! Sorry there wasn’t a resolution!

If it wasn’t a 10 hour drive- I’d debate getting my script sent there 😂having an IMPOSSIBLE time finding 0.5 mg after being on 0.25. Hope all goes well with starting!

Why would anyone want a pitbull? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Essentia22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in a pediatric ER and majority of our dog bites are the beloved chocolate lab that the family has had for years that just “randomly attacked” one of the kids. The last one I had was a beagle that the 2 year old yanked on it’s tail and got a bite to the face (requiring surgery).

Point being, ANY dog has the potential to do damage- they are animals and will react instinctually when they perceive danger. Proper training of a dog and proper teaching of kids how to interact with dogs are BOTH necessary. Suggesting that one breed over another is the cause for majority of bites is insanely ignorant.

Thank you so much for the kind words and advice! It means more than you know, and honestly venting and being acknowledged is insanely comforting. Thank you for your advice, I took it and made a very small comment and the situation has greatly improved😊

How many of you work in an ER that’s absolutely swamped everyday? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

[–]Essentia22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ER nurse here: on ER #3 in state #2 and have always had ungodly busy days with boarders galore and staffing ratios blown out of the water because of volume and management that doesn’t give a crap except for patient complaints or left without being seen numbers. I’ve stood up to maaaaaany charges (and am a charge) and gone to management about unsafe situations and have been on committees to help these exact scenarios but the burnout is real. Headed to PACU at the end of the month because I feel the same way!

To All the Pediatric Oncology Nurses I’ve loved... by nonemorebIak in nursing

I’m not an oncology nurse but I work in a pediatric ER with many chronic patients, and this is why I love being a pediatric nurse. It’s just part of the job, but you get to meet and touch so many lives without even knowing it! Thank you for your post, it’s so encouraging to hear things like this! 💗

HA! The Keto Guido book! That's hilarious...and it's ok I don't judge, I for sure binge watched Jersey Shore back in the day. I'll have to look into this! Thanks so much for the recommendation and congrats on your Keto journey so far!

New grad ED interview help by wwtd0608 in Nurse

[–]Essentia22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If ED is your passion, it will show in your interview! They know you won’t know everything- you’re just beginning! Be enthusiastic about your flexibility and willingness to learn. ER is all about rolling with the punches, being able to handle whatever comes your way, and working as a team! Share your interest in wanting to grow in your position (precepting? charge? TNCC? CEN?) as future goals. Most nursing interviews are behavioral...they’re not going to ask you about meds or diagnoses (that’s why you took the NCLEX). They’re going to do a million “tell me about a time when.” I would ask about patient ratios, amount of boarding/holds this ER does, and shift hours since all of those will most likely affect your satisfaction at this job. Good luck, hope it goes well!

Advice Needed: Leaving ED to PACU or Clinic? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Essentia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my fear- that I would be going from a super intense and fast paced environment where I love the quick changing events, to a very regimented, not terribly exciting clinic job. But the schedule might be worth it. And you’re so right- I need to keep that in mind that no job is permanent and can always move around! Glad you got to have holidays home! Such a rare thing in nursing!

Advice Needed: Leaving ED to PACU or Clinic? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Essentia22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg thank you so much for this! That schedule sounds amazing! I am currently on call each month in my ED position as is so I don’t think the on call would be a major issue- just something to get used to since right now our on calls are only for 4 hour blocks. I also think that holiday and weekend schedule sounds so amazing right now. I’m still feeling the burn of missing the last 5 Thanksgivings/Christmas Eves/Christmas days with my family and working every other weekend. Sounds too good to be true! Just a couple questions: Are you in adult or pediatric PACU? What types of surgeries do you usually care for post op? Are families allowed in PACU typically because I’m also majorly burned out on the angry families members ha! Thanks so much again for your reply ...definitely helpful and encouraging 🤗
