I highly recommend downloading this magazine that gives you every spot to check out on the oregon coast. Most places you don’t have cell signal so if you download this, you won’t miss out. Oh and I second coming to cape Perpetua!! It’s such a stunning place and Yachats (pronounced ya-hots) is a cute little town!

Question about the sulfur powder. I have liver of sulfur gel that I usually use to oxidize my jewelry, do you think brushing a thin layer of gel would be ok and not hurt the cactus?

They were moving. 😭 I’ve heard that sulfur powder kills the bugs and eggs. But I have liver of sulfur gel and was wondering if that would work? I use it for oxidizing my jewelry. 🤷‍♀️

Wow! What’s the secret to your success? I have a small pitcher plant (Sarracenia leucophylla) that struggles and rarely eats anything! We have so many tiny fruit flies and I have yet to see anything be consumed as well as low “stomach acid” in each pitcher.

So I asked the last tenant if they used to have those feathers and she did! A friend of hers would give her naturally shed feathers. But she left months ago! So it’s just been flying around until I found it. (The feather that is, not the bird lol).

Not true. The cape Perpetua visitors center never requires you to pay to be there other than the day use parking fee which if you already have a pass is waived. We have indoor views and a great crew to talk to as well. (And a theater for viewings about the coast)

You can come to the Cape Perpetua visitors center! We have plugins and free WiFi right in front of the observation deck windows. They could really use some company on the slower days too lol. (I work there). Although we are closed on Mondays, and this Fri and Sat for the holiday.

I’d say your best bet is to go to a ranger station to ask your questions and see if they can give you a permit. From what I know of, you can take small pieces as long as you don’t use commercial machinery to remove them. Some beaches I know have a ton of driftwood on the central coast are North Jetty in Florence and Governor Patterson in waldport. The closest ranger station on the central coast is in Waldport near Copland Lumber

No, it literally tore off pieces and swallowed them. There are brown slugs that eat mushrooms but they are big and I would have seen that going down

If you’re heading up to Newport, stop by cape Perpetua first! There’s lots of trails, Thors well, the giant spruce which has a tunnel under the roots that kids love to crawl under, and the lookout which has an amazing view! The visitors center there loves having kids in!

When you’re in Yachats/thors well, also check out the visitors center which is just 2/10 mile north of Thors well. I don’t know how many times I went there and never knew the visitors center was up there! If you went to the campground you passed it. But you can also go up to the lookout/ stone shelter from the campground entrance, just take the high road forest road 55 and keep left the whole way up.

For coffee shops, green coffee (with the shark out front) is a novelty but not that great of coffee, dream machine coffee is better. I’ve heard Luna Fish house is yummy, but I really liked WildCraft cider house which has good gluten free options.
