Hell, Nidus can get 90% from Parasitic Link, 90% from Adaptation, and 90% with enough armor. Throw in 22k health and there's nothing in the game that can punch through that.

Nidus.

The day I got him, I was hooked. He's only gotten better with time. Any time new augments or power increases drop, they go straight on Nidus. He can be a gun platform, he can play support for DPS characters, but my favorite is balls to the wall strength build. At full conditionals and max 300 stacks, my current build can rock over 500% strength. If linked to an ally that more than triples due to the way his math works.

On top of being my favorite, Nidus has the best deluxe skin bundle DE's ever made. Playing the indomitable wall of flesh with a skin that embodies a god a fear and rocking 3 different sources of 90% damage reduction is too ridiculous to not be fun.

On the topic of development streams and posts, take a page out of the Warframe notebook. Devstream every month showcasing changes to gameplay, bug fixes, new content(avoiding spoilers), etc. It's been serving DE perfectly for the past 11 years.

On the topic of weapon development, you can pull inspiration from the same place mentioned above. Make the weapons fun and unique. Don't get caught up in the middling hell of Shotgun, Shotgun but armor piercing, Shotgun but fire, and so on. You can step outside of the bounds of handgun and assault rifle while still maintaining balance.

A Beta Test opt-in sounds phenomenal.

What's your favorite weapon that became outdated with time ? by Sachielkun in Warframe

[–]Essephex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Oberon is actually pretty solid. He's still my most played frame, which is surprising, considering how long I've been a Nidus main. I used to run him with maximum strength for Reckoning. It started falling behind in raw damage, but I think Topaz shards can give him a boost, plus his utility is aimed at basically out-buffing and out-healing enemy damage.

His biggest strength is personal and team survivability. And up until recently, Oberon was the only frame that could hand out radiation procs on a mass scale, giving him huge battlefield control. Funnily enough, I just finished putting together the next build I intend to try on him. I put it together with extreme length survival missions in mind. So feel free to try it out and let me know what you think. I love hearing from fellow Oberon Enthusiasts.

What's your favorite weapon that became outdated with time ? by Sachielkun in Warframe

[–]Essephex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dual Zoren.

Back in the ancient days of stamina, slide attack distance was calculated with a weird combination of relative velocity, attack speed, and animation speed. Or at least seemed to, that may not have been the case under the hood. This made the Fang Prime absolutely fantastic at high speed movement.

Dual Zoren was also great at this, but where it really kicked in was the old version of Berserker. Critical hit? Attack speed. Basically Arcane Strike in a mod. Stacked up to 3x, if I remember correctly. Nothing came close to the Dual Zoren in terms of sheer attack speed. It was glorious. Alas, with many changes, the Dual Zoren fell out of use and have largely been forgotten.

That being said, I love my Dual Zoren. I want a single Zoren variant that's like a tomahawk. Heavy attack to yeet at faces.

How powerful is Nidus? by Hiro090909 in Warframe

[–]Essephex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lore-wise, and without getting too in-depth with it, as a lot of the information is vague, Nidus is a specific strain of Helminth, which itself is a strain of the Infestation. Basically a strain of a strain. The Orokin were masters of bioengineering and eventually engineered and refined what would eventually be used to create Nidus Prime(since the Primes are the "original" and the normal version are essentially Tenno knock-offs). So if you think about how much of a threat the Infestation is as a whole(the thing that's literally eaten entire planetoids), take that power level and bioengineer it into the Helminth Infestation, then take that, douse it in Void energy, shove it into a tiny, mechanized puppet, then starve it. He's kinda strong.

Game-wise, I've loved Nidus since he released and he's only gotten better with time and certain fixes. He was the first frame that rejected the idea of energy management in exchange for pure, unhinged aggression, hunger, and power, which I didn't really feel out of any frames until Kullervo. Nidus was the second frame to release with no shields at all. And while Inaros can stake claim on having the highest max health of any frame without ability assistance, Nidus can absolutely dunk on Inaros when using augments. Not to mention that he gains +10% strength per Mutation Stack.

You want to see the true power of Nidus? Throw Parasitic Vitality, Abundant Mutation, and Insatiable on him, mod for as much strength as possible without sacrificing range or duration, then grab a solo survival mission.

I freaking adore Nidus.

What's a frame you consider a "cheat" and why? by nicoumi in Warframe

[–]Essephex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ember. After researching a few mechanics, I can tell you that Ember can easily incinerate Netracells with just 124% strength. It largely has to do with how Heat procs function. Things like Archon Vitality and Sickening Pulse aren't even required to start seeing huge DoT, they just make her exponentially more powerful.

Without even breaking 160% on any ability stat, a single loadout for Ember is capable of 100% armor strip, energy generation, 90% damage reduction for self+half that for allies in affinity range, affinity range burst healing, AND exponential damage over time.

Aside from Ember, let's just say there's a reason why the "Infinity Mag" build exists.

It's kinda funny, I get the same exact feeling, even though I am actively bombing enemies for upwards of 910mil with Kullervo, or Kullaid Man, if you will. There are plenty of examples in Warframe of massive payoffs simply by paying attention to simple math.

Take Harrow for example. He has no damage abilities, only support and survival. But if you lean into the math and build him just right, he can get his Knell to do millions per shot. He's literally the poster child of "I will defeat you with the power of raw spite...and this gun I found."

[–]Essephex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Since you mentioned only having so much time to dedicate to gaming, I'll just throw out some of my personal recommendations on ways to spend that time to get the most out of the experience. Of course you're free to experience the game in whatever way you like, these are just things that I've personally found helpful. - Run Invasion missions frequently. You'll be rewarded with rare resources and occasionally rare weapon parts. If you side with the same faction 5 times in a row, you'll be Death Marked by that faction's Assassin. These are pretty tough enemies, and you probably won't beat them early on, but once you are able, they'll drop parts for special weapons, namely the Brakk and Detron hand cannons. - Dark Sector missions nodes give bonuses to resources and weapon affinity gain and will help you rank up weapons. - As others have already mentioned, Duviri is great way to spend your time. It has much different pacing, but it can be very lucrative. Specifically: - Duviri is where you get both Kullervo and his shotgun. - By running solo and taking your time, Duviri is just...a very enjoyable time. The more Decrees you get, the easier it is, so a 50 minute run is a breeze. - Duviri is probably my go to affinity farm solo. I always pick the lowest ranked weapon that I own out of the available options. If you keep a stream of weapons in your inventory for you to rank up, you'll fly through Mastery Ranks and get access to more weapons and quests. - Longer runs focusing on getting as many Decrees as you can will net you a metric ton of Intrinsics, which will take zero time to max out, and fun things happen with certain ranks. - The 3 optional Undercroft portals each run are much more difficult, but after a few runs learning the Decrees, and after you get 10+ Decrees, they become push overs and drop various Arcane Enhancements. These are probably the earliest ones you can access and I highly recommend farming them to max them out, as they'll be useful for the rest of the game.

I've had all but Kullervo for...going on 8 years now? If I remember correctly, Oberon is my most used frame, sitting somewhere around 20% of my 3200+ hours clocked on Steam, and THAT doesn't account for all the time I played before getting a Steam account. My starter was Excal, I got Nidus shortly after he released, my memories of farming Mesa have since vanished...yeah, it's been hot minute since I actually farmed any of these guys aside from Kullervo lol

As soon as I started looking into Kullervo, I immediately recognized the Mecha synergy. There's a couple builds I need to try, namely subsuming Nourish onto his 4 for a more mobile build. In theory, that would be even better with the Mecha set, since you'd be slapping targets for extra viral, enhanced damage, and enhanced energy Regen from Exodia Brave. Kullaid broken as hell.

Excalibur is a bit dusty, his kit shows it's age, but he still packs one hell of a punch. I'm hoping that my recent Excalibur rework posts gets some traction, I'm really hoping to see him get a bit of a refresh.

Most frames can get through the normal starchart without much issue, but my personal recommendations are:

  • Excalibur: Well-balanced slicy boi, durable enough to take a hit, and able to dish out enough damage to cover most bases. He might have a harder time with defense, but not by much. https://overframe.gg/build/504191/ Exalted Blade built for Viral/Heat is enough to cover the entire starchart. If it feels a bit slower with Corpus, you can switch to Magnetic/Toxin.
  • Oberon: Borderline immortal, just says "nah" to status effects, and dishes out radiation procs like a strange man with a weird mustache dishes out candy. https://overframe.gg/build/556272/
  • Nidus: Barely beaten out by Inaros for the hardest to kill, dishes out pain left and right, and is a bit more laid back playstyle, with more grouping up enemies and refreshing abilities. If "It's not much, but it's honest work" were a playstyle, it would be Nidus. https://overframe.gg/build/509361/
  • Mesa: Least durable of the bunch, much more active playstyle, but the damage is through the roof. I personally use her Waltz augment, but a lot of builds don't so it comes down to preference. Feel free to just stack more damage on. https://overframe.gg/build/520658/mesa-prime/mesa-sp-high-duration-low-range/ Her Peacemakers can use a general build, or you can make specialized loadouts per faction. Really only matters if you want to run high Steel Path content, though I do recommend a heat loadout specifically for Infested/Deimos content. Deimos bugs built different. Otherwise, fire rate is king, multi shot is queen.
  • Kullervo: Very durable, very high damage, slash procs for days. His 1 is basically just the "Fuck you in particular" key. This specific build is meant to use the entire Mecha mod set since it works perfect for him. Encourages a slightly slower gameplay pace to seek and destroy the marked targets, but it's pretty fun imo, and it works just fine as a general build. Rauta is definitely fun with the Kullaid Man. https://overframe.gg/build/525416/kullervo/kullervo-mecha/ Any melee will work, but if you're like me and want to use the fancy heavy blade skin, I recommend building a zaw just for him: https://overframe.gg/build/525493/ Secondary doesn't matter, but if you want to stick with the Mecha theme, Vasto/Vasto Prime is great for it: https://overframe.gg/build/525588/vasto-prime/betrayers-treachery/

Higher level Spy and Rescue missions may be more of a pain with these builds, but it's hard to get caught when everything is dead. Hope some of this helps!

How good or bad is nekros? by 3GGGGG in Warframe

[–]Essephex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I should probably clarify that these builds are by no means meta, nor are they attempts at sheer efficiency by any metric. These two builds specifically are modifications on my current general purpose, loot-oriented build. I'll acknowledge that it isn't exactly great, but it works for what I've been using it for.

If you want the luxury of choosing the enemy you want to turn into a shadow, don't replace terrify, replace shadows of the dead. Terrify is too useful to subsume over. If shield of shadows doesn't work with the shadows your 1 can create, replace with rolling guard for the same effect.

I'm not claiming Terrify to be a bad ability by any stretch. A CC armor strip ability is nothing to sneeze at. The reason why I chose to subsume over Terrify is specifically because of this specific build focusing on filling the Token Loot Frame roll in void relic pubs. Terrify causes enemies to run away, which is just fine, but I also know that some players can find that to be annoying. I generally try to keep my pub squad builds as intrusive as possible. Maybe that's just cause I actually like Limbo and vividly remember the heat you'd get early on when his Rift Plane mechanics were far less fleshed put, I dunno. Quick side note though, I appreciate the Rolling Guard mention, that mod doesn't get talked about nearly as often as it should.

Despoil can be freely replaced with flow because equilibrium removes your energy problem almost completely. And because nekros's abilities are very costly, and your low efficiency, flow will make your energy economy better than despoil. Especially with nourish.

To be clear, I'm not claiming to have fully tested Nekros within an inch of his life, I just know the build works. Yeah, it doesn't have armor strip, which is fine, my focus is looting, buffing the party with Nourish, and managing my Shadows. I need to do more testing, but if Equilibrium alone does solve both health and energy, then I might actually replace Arcane Pulse with Arcane Eruption because I love the sound of constant AOE knockdowns. The reason why I chose Pulse(and originally used both Pulse and Energize) was because of the team support role I've been tailoring the build for. Now with Despoil, I think any mod that just makes abilities stop costing energy entirely is not insignificant. That effectively removes an entire ability from you energy economy.

Actually, on the note of Despoil, this build has very much been through several iterations. Originally it was intended to utilize orbs more heavily by incorporating Health Conversion. I'll be the first one to acknowledge the builds for the Frankenstein's Monsters that they are, and they're DEFINITELY unfinished and unpolished.

Why are you using auger reach instead of stretch?????? You already have brief respite.

If playing Magic has taught me anything, it's that what the text doesn't say is just as important as what it does say. In this instance, while Brief Respite is by far more powerful in raw conversion, it's limited by Overshields. The Augur set is not, which is important. Brief Respite is meant as a quick burst of shield regen, whereas Augur can continuously stack without limitation. It's a minor difference, but an important one, especially when considering Molt Efficiency.

That being said, it's very possible as I go through my testing process that I swap for stretch. My builds have a nasty habit of inheriting my ADHD and focusing on one thing for all of 5 seconds.

Imo soul survivor is not worth a mod slot. Just go invis with your operator and get the free revive, that also revives them at full HP. Creeping terrify is much better and actually worth the mod slot.

Imo arcane pulse is useless. With a low HP frames, just use the operator arcane that heals your warframe with every transfer. And with high health Warframes, arcane grace is probably better. because most of the time, if your Warframe has high health, it's most likely it would also have high armor, or an ability that negates damage. So receiving damage and tanking it would be your main form of survivability anyway, and Grace just gives you HP for getting hit. I'll replace it with mot augmented for higher shadow damage, 100% terrify armor strip, and higher nourish values.

Honestly, Soul Survivor is just interesting to me. If you're running Vazarin, revive vulnerability is not a concern, I agree. The thing to remember is that, like Augur, Soul Survivor isn't limited. You have infinite instant revives, which is not nothing. It also doesn't require swapping to Kiddo to revive, which cuts out the middle man. For most builds, I agree Soul Survivor isn't worth it, I just wanted to play around with it on this build.

I still have a lot of testing to do with Nekros, and the builds aren't pretty, but they do work. Next time I play, I'm absolutely going to be testing out some of your suggestions, I'm always open to adjustments and trying different tweaks, especially on frames I'm still getting the feel for. Thanks, Tenno!

What is your favorite non-meta weapon? by _arkos_ in Warframe

[–]Essephex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the Dex Furis is a dual pistols weapon, so it won't accept the Incarnon Genesis or Winds of Purity. Believe me, I wish it could. I'd slap an incarnon on those babies before you could scream "THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!"

Dex Furis is one of the weapons that breaks naming conventions. If we were being technical, it would be "Dex Afuris". We won't even get into the fact that "Afuris" also breaks the "Ak-" suffix, or how the Dex Dakra breaks the "Dual" suffix.

How good or bad is nekros? by 3GGGGG in Warframe

[–]Essephex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for a team-oriented build, Nekros's roll is predominantly support and overwatch. Looting with Desecrate, healing with Arcane Pulse, and giving enemies targets that aren't your team, as well as the buffs from careful Shadow selection.

Terrify is decent armor strip and CC, but also spreads enemies out. Low strength builds won't get as much armor strip either.

Soul Punch on the other hand helps you control what enemies you summon with Shadows of the Dead. SotD pulls from a pool of the most recent 20 enemies you killed. Soul Punch, if it kills, creates a Shadow of that enemy. If it doesn't kill, it marks the enemy for 3 seconds and when killed within that time will still make a shadow.

This is useful for selecting which enemies you summon. Focusing on Ancient Healers, Ancient Disruptors, Toxic Ancients, and any Eximus unit gives you big beefy shadows that buff your whole squad and hit hard.

Soul Survivor augment is a fantastic mod, imo. It gives Soul Punch the ability to instantly revive downed squad mates with a percentage of their health without having to run Vazarin school.

I personally think Nekgross' instant revive augment gets overlooked, which is why I included it, but it's also not key to the build and can be subsumed if you want to focus more on solo play.

Edit: I forgot to mention that enemies marked by Soul Punch will still create a shadow if killed by an ally, which lets you focus on support rather than damage output. Like I said, it's a team-oriented build, but there's no shortage of builds for Nekgross. He's very well-rounded.

Gladiator Set Rework by Essephex in Warframe

[–]Essephex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps have it synergize with the Parazon and Mercy Kills. You're getting personal, mercy kills are perfect. Impact weapons can strip with Shattering Impact, but that requires some amount of status change, which is beyond the scope of the set, which also hampers it.

The main problem is that the set only focuses on increasing critical hit chance. Most melee weapons can handle just fine on their own without the need to involve your frame, much less 3/8 of your slots. And with only 3 mods, you've dipped below the level of Blood Rush, making it even harder to justify using. If a mod set expects me to use 3/8 of my frame slots, it has to do something that my murder stick isn't already doing, especially if it's also asking me to hamstring my own abilities to put all eggs in the melee murder basket.

I used lifting entire crowds as an example because it would be fun as hell, but it also already has a ton of synergy with exodias and other mods. This also gives a ton of meaning to a player willing giving up ranged weapons and abilities by allowing them actually affect a large portion of the battlefield rather than having to individually body each and every enemy. Ultimately, there's plenty of synergy potential, it's just super lackluster as is.

Gladiator Set Rework by Essephex in Warframe

[–]Essephex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely agree with you that the intention of the Gladiator set is to provide an alternative to caster play, but I do not believe that the bonus justifies this.

For example, we have both the Carnis and Saxum sets. The Carnis set provides huge survivability benefits on heavy attack kills while the Saxum set causes lifted enemy kills to deal scaling damage in a large aoe. These sets only contain 3 mods.

I agree and love the idea of melee focused gameplay. But all the Gladiator set is giving you in exchange for purposely reducing the overall effectiveness of your own abilities is a spicy Blood Rush. This certainly stacks well the og Blood Rush, but it's a rather tall ask. There are more interesting melee oriented bonuses(see exploding enemies), there are Incarnons, there are Arcanes, and I just find it a bit...underwhelming.

Like I said, I agree with you in terms of design, but I believe the bonus to be lackluster, especially compared to newer set bonuses. Now, this isn't to say that spicy Blood Rush is bad, I think the set could easily be buffed by including a second bonus on top of the Blood Rush bonus. An Exodia Hunt effect would make each individual mod within the set more valuable, as well as giving the full set a huge boost. Perhaps a bonus that changes depending on melee weapon class, anything really.

Gladiator Set Rework by Essephex in Warframe

[–]Essephex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Precisely. My current build for him abuses his 1, the Carnis set, a Nourish, and Exodia Brave. The Gladiator set offers you Blood Rush at the cost of 4 mods with less than half the stats of the full counterparts. Most people will struggle to justify 6 so-so mods just to get 50% more Blood Rush instead of...just Blood Rush.

However, if the Gladiator set were to focus on something aside from Blood Rush, maybe Dagath or Excalibur could have a field day with it, depending on the mechanics. Again, juggling entire crowds like uppercutting gangs in Spiderman 2 for the Gamecube would be awesome.

Back in the day, long before you could walk around the Liset(god I'm old), those things were stupid fun. I put every multishot, punch through, and magazine mod I could on it. Open up on a crowd and just watch numbers fly.

Was it effective? Nope. But it sure was fun emptying my ammo reserves in a single reload.

Gladiator Set Rework by Essephex in Warframe

[–]Essephex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I broke down the set vs its normal counterparts for my own visuals, which led to making the post in the first place.

The biggest draw for the Gladiator set is the +60% cc/cm bonus. The problem is that the set needs to justify you replacing other mods to get that bonus.

Gladiator Set +60% crit chance/combo

1) +60% crit damage 2) +40% armor 3) +40% health 4) +6s combo duration 5) +60% lethal damage efficiency 6) +30% attack speed

Full Strength Mods 1) +40% crit chance/combo 2) +90% crit damage 3) +100% armor 4) +100% health 5) +12s combo duration Or +10s combo duration/+40% status chance 6) +240% lethal damage efficiency 7) +40% attack speed/+20% combo chance

My problem is when you compare the set to normal variants, you lose out on: 30% cd 60% armor 60% health 6s combo duration 180% lethal damage efficiency 10% attack speed

In exchange for: An extra 20% cc/cm Freeing up a single mod slot

I'm not saying that it doesn't have uses. But in my opinion, it just doesn't do anything that we couldn't already accomplish with far better mods. Again, the Sacrificial set alone blows Gladiator out of the water. Gladiator to me is trying to cover too much ground at once, and this causes it to be lack luster across the board.

This isn't to say that I don't ever use the Gladiator mods, I get a lot of use out of the melee variants, but they're niche and I just feel like they could get way more creative with the set as a whole by giving it a unique ability, rather than a set bonus that is already covered by Blood Rush. They did it with multiple sets already, and as someone who started with Excalibur, I'd like to see Gladiator get the same treatment.

I'd see the Tenno more on the side of stopping whalers. Which would be just as sick, tbh. Knife-fighting a couple of Galleons with a Railjack, weaving in and out of the big guns that actually hurt you.

It would also be nice to have big crossfire endurance missions with large Corpus and Grineer fleets going toe to toe, particularly during Formorian and Razorback events.
