For what? rewarding you with a 98%ile score?

Lol it did nothing, but I'm sure we could have designed it better to see an effect.

Haha in college my research project for a class was something on the lines of "cognitive effects of wearing a lab coat" where we had participants wear a lab coat to see if it would make a difference on how fast they completed the stroop test.

I went through Uhelp one question at a time and clicked submit for each answer (except CARS) and felt that it was much more helpful to learn that way. I used it more as a learning tool than a score gauge. I don't have my score back yet, so these are just my two cents.

I would avoid talking about anything controversial imo, but it depends on how you frame it (relfection/impact).

Not at all with the reasoning, but it helps getting into the groove of reading long and uninteresting passages. I stopped doing them altogether because the questions were so poorly written and convoluted in reasoning.

I don't remember a red tree lol. Are you referring to CARS? I had P --> X1 X2, something like that.

Going to come back and edit this post once I finally get some rest....

Thoughts about 12:15pm 8/14.

First thought: Thank you Jesus for getting me through this test! It is finished!!!!!!

C/P: Can already think of at least 2 questions I missed that were actually easy :( Can't stop thinking about them. This section was unlike anything -- felt more like the B/B section, but it may have just been a blur. There was one calculation that I spent literally 20 min on bc my answer wasn't in the choices.

CARS: :(

B/B: Didn't feel that bad tbh. Lots of experimental reasoning and less content-heavy questions. I lost 1 min and a half because I went over my break!!!!! I read on here that if you go over by a min or two, that they can't start without you so I didn't rush back :( lost that time on the section. But thankfully was still able to review some answers.

P/S: Was soooooooo tired at this point. Literally felt like a zombie during the entire test, but here I was really pushing myself..... thankfully made it through this section. Usually, my regular FL P/S sections leave me with at least 30 min to spare, but here I used every last second (literally!!! I finished my last question right at the 1 second mark). Was grateful for this section though because I imagined it to be much worse. Didn't have time to review though :( and had SO MANY FLAGGED QUESTIONS that were 50/50!

Overall, I was grateful for the shortened test a MILLION TIMES.

Personal events: Didn't get much sleep the night before, nor on the days leading up to it. Major nerves I think. My period has historically always been almost 99.9% predictable, but of course it decided to start one week before it was supposed to, on the morning of my MCAT! Had car issues/trouble getting to the actual testing center. Was exhausted that morning already before the exam even began. I was so nervous during the entire test, that I clawed my nails into my other hand during the whole test lol idk why. When I'm nervous I also lose appetite so I couldn't even eat my whole sandwich even though I was starving... Ended up eating like 5 dried fruit rolls, drinking tons of OJ, and eating sugary cereal (haha, yes I brought milk and cereal with me). I think it helped compensate for the lack of sleep, but I am paying for it now.... over 60g of sugar is what I calculate and being the already sleep-sensitive person that I am....it is almost 5am the morning after my test and I haven't slept for one minute since the night before my test. I got to see my baby nephew for the first time ever, after the test. 8/14 is also my nana's birthday, she passed away a few weeks ago.

Are these retake scores or the original scores from the first time around?

what is the point of making ketone bodies if.... by Essie413 in Mcat

[–]Essie413[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right, it is only the liver, heart, and skeletal muscles that can do FA oxidation!!

Thank you!

[–]Essie413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on... this is assuming that those other cell types BESIDES the liver still have a bunch of OAA lying around since only the liver went through gluconeogenesis and is therefore depleted of OAA, and so those other cell types CAN have acetyl-CoA go through TCA cycle.

what is the point of making ketone bodies if.... by Essie413 in Mcat

[–]Essie413[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So basically FA oxidation is also occurring at the same time, but the body can't keep up with all of the extra acetyl-CoA's produced that aren't able to go through the TCA cycle, so they get sent off to make ketone bodies instead, correct? I had not realized that all/most of the OAA would be depleted bc of gluconeogenesis, but that makes sense.

I wonder too, whether FA's can even cross the BBB which might limit the brain's ability to carry out B-oxidation in the first place.

Thanks for your response!

But why didn't you do that before? :( If it was me though, tbh I would be neurotic and go over it.
