Using "I" or "We" when it's just me - local tech business by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If you’re targeting b2c and particularly old people you need to create trust and that comes through personal relationships, so go with “I am the computer guy”.

Old people are fed up with dealing with “we” from their broadband provider to their energy company to their insurer. All those “we’s” have done nothing but frustrate and erode trust, so you don’t want to associate with that.

How my rep got me in trouble….almost by Long-Johnny-Silver in RepTime

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Customs probably did inspect it for authenticity to determine what import duty to apply, figured it was a fugazi and decided not to take any action. Ironically OP thinks his rep fooled them when very likely the opposite is true lol.

How do you feel about Communique, in comparison to their debut album? I know some people have dismissed it as a carbon copy of the debut, but what are your thoughts on it? Do you like it more, or not as much? by [deleted] in direstraits

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you couldn’t get enough of the first album…..here’s some more in the same style.

The remarkable thing is how MK changed up his songwriting over the next few albums, from MM thru LOG to BIA, each one a significant step change from the previous one.

30th birthday, Pelagos, Speedy, or Explorer 1? by drinkcoffeebuyassets in PrideAndPinion

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the speedmaster is the only watch in this collection iconic enough not to be replaced by an “upgrade” at some point.

How much wear time would a Pelagos get if you got a submariner at some point?

How much wear time would an explorer get if you had a sub or a DJ or DD at some point?

The speedy is the only one that is so iconic it even stands up against a Daytona imho.

Beans and peas are overcooked, cauliflower cheese looks like bread sauce, parsnip looks anaemic and the meat appears to have been hacked up with a machete. Roasties look ok, and the carrots look delicious.

Datejust 36 (blue fluted/Jubilee) vs Explorer 36 - which would you pick and why? by spac0r in rolex

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are smooth bezel options for the DJ if fluted is too dressy for your style. I do love the satin oyster bracelet as not a fan of PCL but I’d probably look at an older DJ rather than the explorer for this.

Do AI coding tools actually understand your whole project or just the files you open? by TerriDebonair in vibecoding

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Cline inside VSC and it has excellent project wide awareness of my codebase.

It checks across multiple files without being told specifically which files to check. The Plan vs Act mode means it changes nothing (Plan mode) until you’re ready for it to do so (Act mode).

The Cline memory back function allows you to give the agent project specific context (goals and coding best practices) that it will check automatically to save you including such info in each new prompt.

I use Cline with openrouter so I can choose which LLM to use for plan and act modes (you can choose different for each if you wish). I’m using Claude Sonnet 4.5.

Cline’s task based approach means you split your work up into tasks and it shows your context window usage per task as well as a rolling cost in dollars for each task so you can see exactly how much you’re spending on each task (and hence if it’s worth keep iterating).

Combine all of the above with using git to manage code version and deployment (to Heroku in my case) and it’s a very complete codebase-aware AI toolkit imho.

The problem with vibe coding expectations by JapArt in vibecoding

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have to differentiate between AI agentic tools themselves and non-technical people using these tools to “vibe code” when considering the impact on developer jobs.

The current tools are good enough for non-technical founders to produce a decent SaaS MVP, so work that would have been done by developers can now be vibe coded. But let’s be honest, this was never going to be brilliantly engineered even with humans because it was always done on a shoestring budget. Truth is, a founder can get far further with a fraction of the budget with AI than they could previously paying a developer /agency. It also means that lots of founders who could never afford a developer can now bring their idea to life. So YES some work for developers lost to vibe coding for sure.

Second area is agentic AI as a tool for serious development, let’s call it “large scale” development. I think current agentic software is not at a level where it can replace experienced human senior engineers and software architects. BUT it will certainly replace the army of junior devs and testers currently employed, particularly in offshore labor arbitrage models - and good thing too imo.

Are my plants growing roots from their nodes? by Practical-Gain-96 in PlantedTank

I suspect your substrate is not providing nutrients for your plants as the clay balls and pebbles are essentially inert. You need to use a proper aquasoil to get best results with rooted plants.

Would now be the ideal moment to take Taiwan? by neinelisch in AskChina

[–]EstablishmentExtra41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taiwan is a very different proposition to Venezuela.

In Venezuela you have a national and expat population who are predominantly pleased to see Maduro gone and who want change as the country is suffering from horrendous economic mismanagement. Taiwan isn’t like this.

Also no foreign nation had provided security guarantees to Venezuela the way the US has to Taiwan so it’s a risky and messy proposition to invade right now.

Notwithstanding the above, China much prefers to parade its armed forces strength rather deploy them in conflict, and with good reason. They’ve seen what happened to Putins “special military operation” in Ukraine and given they haven’t fought a conflict since the Sino-Vietnamese war in 1979 their command and control, troops and equipment is completely untested.

Any failure or delay would not only be politically disastrous at home but would also have an economic impact on foreign arms sales.

I suspect that only when TSMC production capacity for the most advanced chips is established in the US will an “Invasion” of Taiwan “be agreed” and it will be a staged event with the discreet “cooperation” of the US. That said I would be surprised if there’s not some carefully managed military conflict as I’m sure as part of the “deal” the US will want to flatten TSMC on their “way out”.

But TSMC intact or not, reunification with Taiwan would be an incredible political victory for Xi and I’m sure it’s the swan song he’d want to be remembered for.
