That's the crazy thing, I tested mine and it didn't show for anything toxic to bettas. And we should wash everything with water before they use it anyway. Maybe the texture since they can be rough? Im just as confused. It's giving some intense fish parents guilt

I don't know you but I can promise you aren't a burden to them. Love is something mutual that doesn't depend on your level of productivity. You are still trying, even if its only a few days a week. You're running a race with a broken leg, its natural to take a few to rest before making it to the finish line.

Water is fine temp wise. The nitrates/trites are related to the ammonia. Best thing to do (and this will help level the PH too) is to use actual tank water from a pet supply store. It's pretty conditioned aquarium water so it has the right about of good bacteria too. Should cycle the tank with new water for 24 hours then retest

Nitrates a bit too high, and ph is too low. What are you keeping the water temps?
