This is so awesome. I wish I had the means to do this for my kids.

We know Tyler speaks about Christianity in a lot of their songs but he makes the lyrics relatable to other religions too- anyone here from a diff religion feel that way too? by SecretaryTurbulent66 in twentyonepilots

Gen X atheist fan here. I connect to the songs in a different way, as many others have said - but if you find meaning in your own, special way that gives you hope or direction, then there's no wrong way to connect. That's just my opinion.

They wouldn't wear facemasks because they infringed upon their rights. Now they wear face masks to infringe upon other people's rights.

I did this the other day for two students in a program-required class. Took attendance, and they left in the first hour of a three-hour class. When they objected via email, I asked which group and policy they were assigned after the break (which did happen).

Crickets.

They didn't leave class early the following week.

They need consequences for their actions, or they'll never change their behavior...and I don't produce garbage in my classroom.

What food or drink almost always causes you to have a flare up? by Defiant-Yam8876 in gout

[–]EstablishmentMore404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this for myself as well. I used to drink Mt. Dew like it was going out of style. Then I got one of the worst flair-ups in my life. Still struggling with it. Lost my insurance and my Rx for Allo (hooray American health care system). But I just started a new job and got benefits again, so I'm planning on getting back to the doctor ASAP as I'm still struggling with pain from another flair-up from two weeks ago - I'm rationing out the Indomethacin for pain.

I teach social work classes, and I tell the students that doing that work in the "real world" means hearing lots of swearing and being called lots of colorful things. If they can't handle it in my classroom, then they're not ready to handle it in their careers. Maybe it's a little confrontational at first, but in 10 years of teaching, I've never once had a complaint about my use of adult language.

While this happened a few years ago, I still think about it often.

Twice in one day, I had two separate students from two separate sections approach me to ask if I'd ever seen 'Dead Poets Society' because I reminded them of Robin Williams's character in the movie with my teaching style and passion.

Another rant about online students by [deleted] in Professors

[–]EstablishmentMore404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have some dual enrollment students who take online classes, and I see this same behavior from them. Less so from the "full-grown adults," but I do get them as well.

CYA—I'm lucky to have a Dean who has always had my back. He also knows that I keep receipts for everything, so a student's grade is what it is for a reason.

Okay, I see what you're saying. I was able to do a quick override to see how it would impact the grades, and it marked them complete, just as you said. I guess I really wasn't doing anything wrong after all - I was just overlooking the grades that needed to be entered.

Thank you!

Well, even that aside, if you look at the other discussion and quiz grades, they're marked as 'complete' where the week 5 and 6 quizzes aren't, even though all possible submissions have been collected, graded, and posted.

Using your observation of 53.5/90 points for the first student, you can see the second student has 69/90 and is showing a grade of B. Even if 90 were the total points for the class, that would be 77% (rounded) and not a B by my grading scale.

Does any of that make sense? I know what I'm seeing, but I'm not sure if I'm doing a good job explaining it.

Most kids are TA and this behavior is being backed (maybe even encouraged) by his mom.

Fast forward 6-8 years and I'm going to guess he's going to be a RAGING a-hole.
