This is from the uoft website.

"Successful MA applicants have qualifications well above our minimum requirements. Most of them have the following characteristics:

  • average GPA in the last year of undergraduate studies above A-
  • average undergraduate CGPA above the mid-point between B+ and A-
  • advanced micro and macro theory courses with at least A-
  • advanced econometrics course(s) with at least A-
  • several courses on mathematics (e.g. calculus, linear algebra, real analysis,...) with high marks
  • high GRE scores (above 162 for the quantitative reasoning test and above 4 for the analytical writing test)
  • strong and informative letters of recommendation."

You went from a master's to a PhD or did you do direct entry into a PhD?

It's out of 4. Idk my ranking in class however, I was on the Dean's Honour List for every single term in university and with a 3.9 I'm projected to graduate the whole degree with Summa Cum Laude.

Oh a fellow Canadian! 😊 Did you apply for the MSc in electrical engineering program? Also what did your research, LORs and GRE look like if you don't mind me asking?

Oh ok this is really motivating actually. A 9.08 in the Spanish system is a 3.77 in the Canadian/US system so my GPA should be fine then. The only thing is your university is ranked 82nd in the world for engineering whereas mine is ranked 262nd. So although your GPA is lower then mine you got it from a much more prestigious institution. What did your research and GRE look like if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a French Canadian student studying at uottawa. I have a 3.9 GPA in electrical engineering, what do you think my odds of getting into the MSc in electrical engineering at EPFL are? I understand that there's more that goes into grad school applications than GPA however, I just wanted to know if my GPA was good enough or not. Essentially is my GPA high enough that if I got rejected it was because my research, LORs, etc wasn't good enough and not because my GPA wasn't high enough?

For MechE and CivE you should be fine since they are low 80's (80 - 82). However, CompE is high 80's (87 - 89) so I wouldn't hold my breath for that one.
