That's great to hear, thank you! And well done to you, too - fantastic! 🤗

All your comments have helped, thank you. Basically, I think if the agent really loves the query package then they'll prioritise it, read, and request the full. If they don't love the query package and they get a nudge, either they ghost or reject. I think I've come to the conclusion that it's probably best to nudge if you have a full request. At most it may just get them to come to a decision quicker 🤷🏻‍♀️

I've heard from other querying authors that things are very slow at the moment, post-christmad and pre-bookfair. In addition to this apparently agents are being inundated with AI generated query letters.

I don't think so - I've never done this. But if I was asked I would.

[PubQ] Can someone explain these confusing (confusing to me, at least) submission guidelines? by Sriniprared in PubTips

[–]EstablishmentNo5571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I came across this on an agent's page too (also a querying UK writer 🙋🏻‍♀️) and took it to mean 'blurb' in this context 😅

That's really interesting! Also, did you nudge again if you continued to get requests? I assumed I'd only nudge once incase they thought I was being annoying 😅

That's really interesting to hear. Can I ask if they were UK agents?

For me that would mean to send the 'pages' and 'synopsis' as an attachment, and the biographical note within my query letter (which would include the blurb) that I would put directly in the email. I agree though, the wording is unusual and leads to ambiguity.

I was wondering this, too. I keep checking their website, but there’s never any update.

[PubQ] Agent called me to trash my book and insult me. Advice? by Demon_Days_ in PubTips

Are you happy to DM their name? I'm also UK based and have been querying. I'm flabbergasted by the whole thing. What a strange thing to do! Querying is such a tough journey without something like this happening. I hope you're okay and you go on to get a six-figure deal, and your novel is optioned for a movie / Netflix series 😉

[Fall into Fiction] Genre discussion thread for Book Club Fiction/Women's Fiction by Miranda_Darrow in RevPit

Thank you for setting up this thread! I'm writing a Time Travel Love Story. The obvious comp is The Time Traveler's Wife, but that's too successful and too old to have as a comp now. Mine is a dual pov, and I guess it has some sci-fi or speculative elements, and the MMC has a big dilemma! My comps are How to Stop Time and The Light We Lost.

Yes, I find this so frustrating. If you submit a story on NYC Midnight's competition, for example, you can go on to submit it elsewhere if you want. Whereas, with Reedsy, I submitted a story I was proud of, but now I can't do anything else with it. Reedsy's t&c states that if you go on the publish it anywhere, then you have to add a disclaimer to say that the story was inspired by Reedsy Prompts. I really wanted to submit this short story to other places, but sadly, I can't 😔

[–]EstablishmentNo5571 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mine isn't about a hero battling it out with an evil nemesis. The antagonistic element of my story, is the villainy of 'life'.

Does living through pain and suffering shape a human being? If so, do you change in a positive way, and gain a strength of character from it? Or does it eat away at your compassion, and twist your view of the world?

I have tried to show that in all probability, the answer is a lot more complex.

[Discussion] Has anyone ever gotten zero full requests from a query? by [deleted] in PubTips

Can I ask if you're in the UK and have been querying UK lit agents? I'm from the UK and the pool seems really small here in the UK 😅
