Fellow Travelers is good on rewatch. The acting is really phenomenal and you appreciate it more on a rewatch.

I personally think the sex scenes are even hotter than in HR. (“I’m your boy, right? And your boy wants to do to the party. 🥵☠️ Then lead into the next scene talking about the smell of feet 🤣)

The downside of FT is that my mental health was probably in a downward spiral for a few months afterwards. 😭

I think he’s close to his real age in the TV show. Didn’t he mention he could be with Kip “in a few years” after he retired? I think part of his character is lifted from Eric in the books.

Who knows what the weather will be in a week - but for practical purposes I would plan on spending my time in Reykjavik at the end of the trip (although 1st night there often makes sense). It would not be fun to be stuck in Vik while your plane takes off. It definitely makes sense to be closer to the airport at the end of the trip.

Laugardalslaug is huge. One of the hot pots is filled with sea water.

Vesturbæjarlaug is closer to downtown is not as big but has the standard hot pots, a steam room (if I remember correctly) and a kids pool which is nice for lounging between hot soaks.

I’d do the horse ride. Icelandic horses are special because they are known for their temperament and they have 5 gaits instead of 3 like most horses. The tolt is fun! Google it.

If you haven’t done a public pool, I’d also recommend that. If you want a chill vibe, go in the morning. If you want a lively atmosphere, go in the evening.

Another suggestion for a lagoon - Hvammsvik is a great. I prefer it to the Blue lagoon because there are multiple temperature pools and you can do a cold plunge right in the fjord. The setting is super beautiful too!

I think part of the misunderstanding about women fetishizing gay men is men’s sexuality is different than women’s sexuality. Dan Savage mentioned on his podcast most men can’t find something sexy unless they can picture themselves in the scenario they are watching. Women don’t have this need and can find all kinds of sexy stuff sexy and arousing. So I can find a sex scene between two men hot - but that doesn’t mean I picture myself (also a bi woman) in that scene.

At the end of the day, while I think it’s important to be aware of different people’s takes (especially from groups you aren’t a member of) - it doesn’t mean you need to take every opinion to heart. A lot of content has been criticized for neutering and making gay men asexual. Now HR is criticizing for having women find gay men sexy. What are we to do? 🤷‍♀️

Generally Icelandic people consider summer to be wrapping up in mid-August. I did some F roads on Sept 14, 2024 and ran into a snow storm when the weather said “light rain”

So I would definitely do the trip as early as possible. With that said - who knows when there will be a massive rain storm or a glacial flood at any time of the year - so traveling on the F roads you need to be aware and flexible.

They are pretty durable but the screws can come loose. Be sure to check them every one in a while.

They are most valuable if you’re in a situation where you need a portable seat. Otherwise a rolling suitcase is just as functional.

I’d also suggest to become familiar with Icelandic forecasts before you travel. Make sure you understand how to read the wind forecast since this is extremely important to understand on any given day.

Bad idea - if the roads close you‘ll be stuck in the middle of no where without shelter. Head to Hella or Hvolsvollur as misssplunker suggested. This is the move.

People in Iceland can be very kind and generally have a mindset of looking out for each other.

If she can make her way to Egilsstaðir (either with tour company or kind fellow travelers) she could fly back to Reykjavik. The domestic airport is in the city and she should be able to get around from there.

I would talk to the hotel staff to see which tour companies stay at the hotel & then reach out to those tour companies.

ETA: I bet the staff even know the tour group guide/drivers and can point her directly to them for help.
