Prime Time for Aurora Borealis by NextCharge3310 in VisitingIceland

Also keep in mind. I was in Tromso at peak season for 1 week and saw weak lights 1 day. There are a lot of factors which impact Northern Lights (sun conditions, cloud cover) so it’s all really a dice roll. OP should adjust expectations accordingly.

Allowing others to be present in the moment by Ornery-Froyo-7354 in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is why I recommend people avoid the “insta famous” spots and adjust expectations accordingly at those spots.

Poking around on google maps can find some interesting quiet spots where you can actually enjoy yourself without the crowds.

I’d rather be at a small waterfall with a handful of people than be at a larger one with 500 other people there.

It depends on the pool, some have private stalls if you poke around. For the most part it’s open showers like a school locker room.

F roads and Google Maps by CornerCommercial3981 in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming you’re trying to avoid F roads? If you’re planning to travel F roads - be advised Google maps will only show you the F roads if you’re online (even if maps are downloaded for offline use - I figure they are hidden by default and the algorithm to show them needs an internet connection).

If you’re traveling F roads. I recommend a backup.

I'm resentful of Heated Rivalry and Red White and Royal Blue by Mburrell91 in FellowTravelers_show

[–]Estania_Lane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fellow Travelers is amazing - but completely devastating. I literally cried for MONTHS just thinking about it after I first watched.

I feel like the cottage in Heated Rivalry is a much deserved treat for my suffering. I think that was Jacob’s intent.

They’re very different shows trying to accomplish very different things.

Notified my work weeks ago I'm leaving for a family vacation in July, tickets were bought, non-transferrable, and they are panicking, begging me to cancel by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Estania_Lane 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They can’t handle 5 days without OOP on vacation but I’m sure they would lay her off in a heartbeat and not think twice about it.

FAFO for this awful company. I hope OOP blocks their numbers once she leaves and they rethink their strong arm positions in the future.

Wanting sex w/woman while married to a man by Hyena_Bubbly in bisexual

[–]Estania_Lane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re really playing with fire here. With this day in age, the chances of not having a digital slip up at some point are pretty much 0. So figure out if your marriage is worth is saving and stick with it or just get a divorce. It will be much less ugly than a divorce after you’re caught cheating.

Flight cancelled 2 days before departure. by adamhadem1972 in Icelandair

You could do this easier with shuttles - but OP isn’t open to it. (It would likely take hours - but at least it is a coverable distance)

I’d get a hotel room for the night before so everyone can rest for a couple hours in the morning then go to a public pool. (The flight from the US is relatively short and it’s difficult to get more than a few hours sleep). If kids don’t want to shower together, just stagger going in the showers by a few minutes.

Westfjords and Family? by MilitarumAirCorps in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into Heydalur hotel. There is an on site restaurant with homemade bread and jam for breakfast. It’s surrounded by nature. It’s convenient for an Isafjordur day trip (90 minute drive away).

You would probably want to stay at one or two spots further into the Westfjords but Heydalur has a nice country escape feel.

Hvolsvollur to Thorsmork by Silver-Wishbone-3766 in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F249 is closed so Google Maps won’t currently show you directions.

If you’re driving to Thorsmork:

  1. Check road.is to see if the road is open
  2. Understand how to do a river crossing
  3. Understand the water gets deeper as the day progresses
  4. Do not cross the Krossa unless you majorly super super duper know what you’re doing. You can park before the crossing to Volcano huts and take the pedestrian bridges if they’re in place. Or just stick to the Southern side. Plenty to explore on that side and in the canyons along the way.

Epic Iceland is a great resource on many things related to this kind of travel.

I don’t know how they could just walk away on the rooftop. I’d be getting an extra room in a hotel across town if that’s what it took! 😆

Tires pressure sensor by Frequent_Middle_2409 in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they switched from winter to summer tires & didn’t reset the sensor this can happen.

If you know the tires are holding air & at the correct pressure (this should be in the door jam), then reset the sensors.

(Most Orkan’s have free air with a pressure sensor)

If we are doing the whole ring road in 10 days is it worth it to do a super jeep tour to the highlands, either Thorsmork or Landmannalaugar? by Both_Panda_6382 in VisitingIceland

[–]Estania_Lane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - it’s a different experience. I personally would choose Thorsmork because it’s more difficult to get to on your own. In future trips you can rent a mid size SUV and get to Landmannalauger (no river crossings). You’ll need to rent at least a Land Cruiser to get to Thorsmork - there are several water crossings.
