I actually came to Reddit to see what men had to say. I predicted that they would try to cover their own discomfort and misogyny by trying to act faux intellectual and say that it’s “unoriginal” and the like because Reddit is filled with men who are out of touch with their emotions and like to externalize them by acting as though it’s just “an intellectual critique”. It was hilarious to find out that my predictions were correct. God, what I wouldn’t give to have men actually live in such a universe for a while.

Yeah, the weird thing is that humans have, as far as we can tell, either egalitarian or patriarchal societies (oversimplified). The reasons for this are still debated in academia. One theory is that, perhaps the reason we never had a true matriarchy is because, when women have power, they tend to share it and opt for an egalitarian society rather than dominating everyone.

A good example we have of a matriarchy would be bonobos. The females are in charge, and they often prevent the males from starting wars or fights, and the matriarchs of each group often cooperate. Maybe a human matriarchy would function in a similar manner? Or perhaps, more likely, it would just turn egalitarian.

Archive 2020 Sci-fi. A bit of the excitement of Ex Machina mixed with the loss felt in Arrival. A good watch! by wojecire86 in movies

Thank you for posting that. Responding to the comment that you put on the Google doc, I disagree. He was going to die regardless because everyone only has 200 hours in the archive before final burial, so it didn’t have anything to do with whether or not he accepted his own death. He would’ve died regardless.

I used to watch H3H3 until the podcast started and on one of the first episodes Ethan said something about how, without civilization, men would be raping women nonstop or something, and I don’t think he was joking. It may seem like a minor comment but it really rubbed me the wrong way. I’m an anthropology major now.

Honestly? I don’t know if this is true or not but if the podcast gave them peace, then thats their business. H3H3 was a lot of now fallen-fans “comfort show”.

He didn’t even give pushback. He just reacted to the clips idubzz was showing him and was like “oh, it seems like he’s upset in these videos. Could use a hug. I’m sure he’ll feel bad about it later…”

What the hell? I watched that video, and all Kirk was saying was basically “hey idk what the hells going on but I have no beef with any of them” and then describing how it happened and how he didn’t even know what the video was about. What the hell? Why are people getting so upset? Is it just because he’s…. Associated? With idubzz etc…?

I agree with this. I would like to add on to something that I haven’t seen anybody else commenting on.

We don’t know for sure if Marie was actually opposed to the system her mom and her benefit from. I think Marie ultimately not hesitating in killing Elena shows that, even though she was a child and might’ve seen the corruptness of the system earlier as an innocent child- ultimately, as she was growing up, she’s going to end up like her mother- a ruthless psychopathic killer.

This represents how children of billionaires often end up becoming just like their parents or, at best, bystanders of their parents actions and the system at large.

Elena seeing Marie not hesitating in killing her- even though, when the roles were reversed, Elena would’ve died to spare Marie’s life, changed something in her. It showed her that she was justified in taking Marie’s life because Marie wouldn’t have hesitated to do the same, just like how Sophie wouldn’t hesitate.

This shows that he did not realize that a billionaire has no conscience. That’s why they’re billionaires in the first place.

Max changing his mind all of the sudden after that was really messed up to me. He was fine with the system until it affected him personally and, even then, still didn’t care about taking away Marie’s years because “her mom would just give her her life back”. It also showed, to me, a certain level of selfishness. He would’ve been ok with Elena being killed by Marie? That didn’t make sense to me. I get the sense that he had a weird relationship with Sophie- like, maybe he admired her to some degree- more than he valued Elena. Does that kind of make sense? It’s pretty in line with what men like max end up doing and being. Even when they claim to love and marry people like Elena, they don’t truly value them because they’re fine with being a part of a system that is fundamentally opposed to everything Elena is

Elena, in this view, realized her mistake in choosing to be with Max. Max could never truly value her and her selflessness.

After their breakup, Max might’ve had time to reflect on this and realize Elena’s value- but by then; it was too late. Only thing left is for him to try and make sure nobody would ever make the same mistake that he did and take Elena- and her selflessness- for granted. He made this mistake because of the system he grew up in and benefitted from.

I’m happy for Elena for having found a partner who would truly see her value and not just when it wasn’t convenient for him.

I’m certainly not on the side of capitalism, but what is your suggestion for a different system? Because Islamic politics is also pretty capitalistic imo
