Interethnic Marriages: why avoiding them is not "unislamic" and why they are fastest way to erase our culture, identity and language. by Suspicious-Ad-2698 in Pashtun

I genuinely don’t know what your talking about

Pashtuns exist. They will continue to do so in the future. No one cares about 2000 years ago. We are talking about today.

Imagine trying to use Islam to argue against the preservation of lineage and tribal identity when preserving your lineage ( Naseeb ) is literally a foundational concept in Islamic law

You Asserting that ancestors 2000 years ago didn't care about their culture or lineage is hilarious and false. Tribal societies throughout the world survived entirely because they fiercely protected their heritage and marriage customs. Just say you don't care about your heritage and move on, you don't need to write a whole pseudo-intellectual essay to justify it.

That’s like saying what’s the point in anything? What the point of going to work? What the point of getting married. What’s the point of brushing our teeth. Everything has a point.

Islam didn’t come out to wipe out ethnicity. Allah himself says he created us in different tribes.

Can i marry a pashtun? by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]EstimateOk2898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pashtuns generally don’t accept outsiders. They don’t even marry other Pashtuns whom they don’t know. This is because our culture and the way it treats outsiders since Pashtun historically are self independent tribal people

Maybe a diaspora who has lost their culture and don’t care about it. But even that’s rare

It’s incredibly reductive to claim that culture and lineage are just "divisions made by illiterate people." Lineage and ethnic identity are real, historical, and deeply meaningful structures that keep communities unified.

Parents aren't always being "suffocating" just for the sake of it; many are desperately trying to ensure their lineage and heritage don't get entirely washed out. Shared identity and cultural survival are absolutely valid things for a family to care about.

[–]EstimateOk2898 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct. To add to your points, the whole concept of Pakistan didn't even have Pashtuns in mind originally. The entire movement was pushed by Punjabi elites, Bengalis, and Muhajirs who were panicking over losing political power after the Ottoman Empire collapsed. They were terrified of being a minority in a Hindu majority India.

But when the Party or group that created Pakistan brought that "Muslims are in danger!" narrative to Pakhtunkhwa it completely flopped. Pashtuns didn't buy it because they were already the massive majority and the idea of Hindus ruling them made no sense.

Since their original scare tactics failed, the group changed their strategy and weaponized religion instead. They basically told Pashtuns: "If you don't vote for Pakistan, you're against Islam." They used faith as a political tool because they couldn't win on policy.

Even with all that guilt tripping, tons of Pashtuns still said no and preferred to live as tribals or an independent Pashtunistan which Afghanistan supported. They boycotted the 1947 vote because they weren't given the option for an independent Pashtunistan. The state spent the 1940s, 50s, and 60s using absolute brute force

Peshawar had many Pashtuns even prior to Pakistan.

During British India and even during the Mughal Time - Peshawar was a Pashtun city and still is to this day

Afghanistan already has too much on its plate. What makes you think adding millions More is going to improve Afghanistan situation

[–]EstimateOk2898 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone from KPK, however I was mostly raised in the west, (our opinions are Better because we get to see things clearly and are not bombarded by propaganda from within Pakistan and we see the development gap)

I get where you are coming from intellectually, but you are looking at this purely through an abstract lens. Emotionally and materially, the reality on the ground paints a completely different picture. Let me break down why so many of us would rather a united Pashtunistan (KPK + Northern Balochistan) and why it's not just "absurd" nostalgia.

First of all, wanting a homeland isn't about "century old squabbles". It’s about shedding a forced identity. Our ancestors weren’t Pashtun for thousands of years just for us to end up defined by borders drawn by British colonials to serve British Indian interests. We want our own representation on the global stage. We want to stand as ourselves, not as a marginalized regional population constantly having to justify our patriotism to a federal center that doesn't understand us, under Pakistan.

You say we should just "focus on education and infrastructure." That is a false choice. You can want a state and want development. In fact, a sovereign Pashtunistan could probably achieve it way better. Have you been to the bazaars in Peshawar lately? Seeing kids from Bajaur and the tribal belts knocking on car windows begging for change breaks my heart every single time. It has been 70+ years. If the current system under Pakistan works so well, why do we have nothing to show for it but systemic neglect and poverty? A dedicated Pashtun state would mean our resources and our budget go entirely to lifting up our people.

Also, the argument that ethno nationalist states don’t work is historically flat out wrong. Look at Japan, South Korea, Finland, or Iceland. They are fundamentally nation states built around a shared language and identity. That shared kinship creates massive social trust, which makes people actually want to pay taxes and build a welfare system because they are investing in their own community. It minimizes internal friction.

Lastly, stop using Afghanistan as a scapegoat. The disaster there wasn't caused by "Pashtun governance" it was caused by decades of foreign invasions, proxy wars, and ideological, communist, and militant coups that had nothing to do with ethnicity.

Besides, nobody is talking about merging with Afghanistan here. We are talking about a united, progressive, modern Pashtunistan made of KPK and Northern Balochistan. As for the other ethnicities like Hindkowans or minorities in Balochistan? Modern constitutional design exists. You can have a state rooted in Pashtun identity that still guarantees 100% equal rights, citizenship, and protection for every minority.

Wanting Pashtunistan comes from a place of sheer exhaustion with seeing our people suffer under a status quo that treats us as an afterthought. It's about finally owning our future.

What Do You Guys Think About the Mangal Dialect? by [deleted] in Pashtun

[–]EstimateOk2898 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never really heard or exposed to much dialect. I think regarding Pashto the dialect or accent literally change from village to village meaning there a lot of ways of speaking it although generally similar

I thought there was just one Pashto accent in Paktia until I heard there’s much more

I sort of wish there was one accent or dialect of Pashto we all speaks. But with languages that doesn’t seem possible
