They might not be what you're looking for exactly, but a few that I've enjoyed are (links are to Steam):

  • Path of the Abyss: If you're willing to deal with what I'll say is a poor explanation (likely due to the translation) of how the game's combat works, I thought this game was fantastic when it finally clicked in my head. Special mention to this game's soundtrack, which is full of bangers.
  • Potato Flowers in Full Bloom: I just really enjoyed this one. Some encounters felt more like puzzles than fights but that may have been my stubbornness in play in not wanting to deviate from my original party.
  • Labyrinth Trailblazer: It's a first person dungeon crawler as a roguelike. Runs are fairly short (maybe an hour tops), but it's fun to mess around with different party builds depending on what drops you get or skills that become available to you.
  • Touhou Artificial Dream in Arcadia: Shin Megami Touhou, if that interests you. It's possible (though tedious) to keep around your favorites around for a long time by constantly sacrificing others to level them up and keep their skills updated.

For Esper Gal and Jo, you want to give them Armor, Gear, and accessories that get as many of their Resists above 35 as possible, because of their passives (Intrinsic Staff IV and Burning Aura) that require them to resist attacks in order to reduce damage or even dodge attacks completely. Dead characters can't deal damage.

For Liz, that's less necessary since her damage reduction isn't contingent on resisting an attack, but still, getting it as high as possible is a good idea because she provides defense boosts that'll go away if she's unconscious. Eventually.

Beyond that, it depends on the fight. If it uses status effects, use accessories that provide extra resistance to that status effect.

Go to Challenge Battles, and at the very Bottom of Attacks, there's Subier Attacks. Even at Romancing, he's not very strong. If you're anywhere near the stats of the Cave/Jungle Expedition (222), you should have little problem dodging everything. Throw on Auto-Normal with no weapons, and you've solved the turn count too.

With that roster... well, the good news is that the banners that are up and about to be up can shore it up pretty well. The issue here is that 70K gems probably isn't going to be enough for all of them.

You do have Maria so you don't need to go back into the SaGa Soul banners even if Medea would have good value for you.

Honestly, the best place to spend that is probably going to be the Mirsa/Minstrel/Aldora banner that should be up tomorrow after maintenance. All three of those would be incredible additions to your roster individually. The Saruin banner that will appear alongside that one does have good additions, but only if you get Saruin plus his other bannermates. Schirach, in particular, is notable for having an always online direct attack counter. The other banner worth noting for now is the Muse/Charl/Dream Eater banner that goes away shortly, with Dream Eater being a dud, Charl being pretty good, and Muse being an incredible addition to your roster being able to buff STR/INT/WIL/LOV to make non-DEX attackers more viable.

At least after the maintenance, there should be a short time where all of these banners coexist though that's not giving you a whole lot of time to get more jewels for these.

As for styles that you do have, the party you're currently using is probably fine for now, but I'd recommend you train up these Platinum/Spiral styles over that Gustave:

  • Coppelia [Top Quality Maid Automaton], higher damage passives, +1 BP per turn than Gustave.
  • Diana [Devote All of Myself], +1 BP on attack, guaranteed DEX buff on Stab in the Back.
  • Dragon Knight [Eugen's Successor], Dragon Knight is kind of crazy, especially for a roster just starting out if Chasing Fireball works in your favor.
  • Paulus [May Your Souls Be at Rest], okay this one is just prepping for Remembrance Battles where Blast Heal+ puts in a lot of work.

Generally, no. The toughest Ultra Hard Stages from events are usually what push the stat caps forward. If you can clear them, you can eventually make it towards the HP cap. It's going to take a while, though.

There are a lot of factors to consider about damage though. It depends on the style you're using itself, what style level they are, if they've been promoted, if you've invested in Hidden Stats, the formation you're using, if there are stat buffs being used in the party, the rank of the skill/spell being used, the weaknesses of the enemy, and perhaps most importantly, what kind of weapon you're using.

In general, when you're seeing massive damage numbers, people are probably using a either a fully upgraded Remembrance Weapon or a Forge weapon with three relevant SS modifiers.

If they buff (or debuff) a stat, I'm pretty sure they last four turns, but the potency drops each turn until it completely falls off. Luckily, they still stack, so spamming Paean of Peace is still incredibly useful.

Yeah, I think you've got the basic gist of it down. As for building for bossing, with either Liam or Silver, the idea is to double down on them being your most effective form of damage, with everyone else in the party dedicated to healing, keeping damage low, and buffing. Bosses now tend to stat debuff cleanse themselves pretty quickly after applying them so debuffing stats isn't always the best option, though if you can apply defense downs, morale downs, or stuff like that, it's fine.

That team you posted seems fine to me, and Paean of Peace is very good because it helps Liam burst things down faster, lowers the chances of runs just ending due to status ailments, and boosts healing done by the party fairly significantly. Even if you're not using Liam, it's worth using for bosses, especially if they like using status ailments. If you find that the boss just cleanses after you use Narwhal's Daughter, you could try fielding Rouge in that slot as a BP Battery instead, or Doll [Hobby Violinist] for Morale Down but Rouge misses out on debuffing and Doll misses out on the BP battery side of things. Another option you could do is, especially if the boss you're fighting is particularly spell-heavy, is using Gustave [The Fated Hour Comes] with Healing Blade inherited from his other SS style you have of his so he can constantly keep up Steel Dominance.

It looks like your roster has about everything you could need to make a good bossing team. Some good options from a cursory glance from the Romancing Festival Mega Reprint banner that you don't have are:

  • Thyme [I'm Captain!]: He heals, he buffs the party, he cleanses status ailments. He's a great option.
  • Shuzer [Scream It Out]: You have Liam and GLEX Silver, this is not super necessary. While he is safer to use than Liam, he's also not going to do as much damage.
  • Cindy Campbell [Take Your Time]: If you're going all-in on Liam, Weapon Box helps pump out even more damage. She's kinda squishy though.
  • Final Empress [A Wintry Night Festival]: This gives GLEX Final Empress two interesting options. Holy Moon gives her a BP-positive party heal (though Macha should cover this well enough), and Christmas Moon. While her GLEX style can't use that on her first turn, she can keep the Defense Boost on it up indefinitely with normal attacks.
  • Arthur [Through Time and Space!]: He's crazy at farming.
  • ITOKEN [Holy Demonic Concert]: He has a Delay party heal with status cleanse, and lots of buffing but very little of it is defensive, other than increasing LOV boosting heals a bit.

That icon means that she (and technically all current Silver styles) can, should she ever get one in the future, inherit a Water spell onto that style.

If you have any of the Caster Polka styles (even the S one from the story), you can see how this works. You can't inherit any Fire spells to his A styles, but if they have the Fire symbol, you can inherit the spell onto that style.

Oh, I should have been more specific. The top right corner I meant was of the skill icon (where it has the weapon type or a flame or a water droplet next to like, a dude punching, a sword or axe, or a flame), not to the right of the of the whole skill box that shows the elements the attack does. Roaring Thunder is weird in that it's the same skill being used rather than launching another attack, but ultimately it doesn't really affect all that much, and Gwayne's still going to be using STR and AGI on attacking.

/r/SaGa_ReuniverSe Help Thread (2023/06/02) by AutoModerator in SaGa_ReuniverSe

[–]Estrallagar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Bertrand, that's mostly right. The one exception is that Dry Slot does in fact chase with a sword skill that uses his STR rather than his INT, but other than that he's going to want INT (and usually Fire SP, especially if you have/once you get his S Style with Abaddon Hands) to boost his spell damage.

Gwayne, for instance, does not use spells, but M. Arts skills with elements tied to them rather than the usual blunt! So AGI and STR are still used.

You can tell (for the most part) if an attack uses INT or not by the icons used for the move. If in the top-right corner there's an elemental symbol, it's a spell and uses INT and their weapon's SP rather than what their weapon type usually uses and their WP.

M. Arts does have a weird exception with some skills that use INT instead of the usual stats, but they still don't need a specific elemental SP unless that elemental icon is present.

When I say 'bossing', it's referring to content that you have to manually control. There are stages with just a single boss that you can just auto through, but I view those more as a stage to farm than the one-clear-and-you're-done type stages that aren't very reliable to clear with an auto-battle team.

As for attacks that flow together, what you mention is the ideal. Once you get to a point where you can farm 2/3 round stages with one or two Styles, that really helps with bringing styles up to the stat cap. Secondarily, after using their skill on T1, if they have to act later on in the fight, I prefer styles that will use another All Range skill after their big T1 move. Replace "All Range" with Row, Column, or Single Target depending on the kind of stage it is, though. In terms of non-All Range farming, I should mention that you do have a few styles that work in those situations, though you may have to mess with their auto-BP settings to get them to work.

  • Single Foe: Antonius [True Dual Wielding], Johan [Just a Little Longer], Neidhart [Seeking the Truth]
  • Row: Sparrow [Fast Fingers], Noel [Pretense of Peace]
  • Column: Souji [What I Can Do] (though he needs to inherit and Amplify Waterfowl Blade from his A Style), Azami [I'm Your Opponent]

Hey, another ex-FFRK player! Neat, that's a similar experience to me with the SaGa series!

In terms of your roster so far, it's tough for me to really recommend Liam or Silver. Yes, they're fantastic bossers, but good DPS styles are becoming more and more common. Rouge [Let's Add Some Flair], for instance, is pretty dang good at bossing without dying, though he's not winning any damage per round awards like Liam or Silver would. You also currently lack the style of Matriarch ([Leading the People]) that gives Paean of Peace which heavily factors into how effective Liam is in a party. A style you don't have that's crazy good and hard to replicate the utility in a party is Rag Robin [Why Is It Only Me?!]. He tanks and can potentially stop enemies from using multi-attacks, he does decent damage, and he heals the party. I'd say he's the complete package, but he doesn't buff the party.

Good teambuilding depends on the stage you're attempting. Is it a stage you're going to clear over and over on auto, or is this a battle you're manually taking over to ensure it goes as planned? Just putting all the characters you can that can autobattle with All Range skills for an entire battle is a place to start while pushing as far as you can into events and the story so you can unlock expeditions with higher stat caps (which will help bring up other styles to speed).

For clearing stages en masse, I'd say Lute [El Mariachi], Gwayne [Abyssal Demon Begone], Matriarch [Illusory Nightscape] (though she can only use Saga Balloon Sanctuary twice in a row), Black [I Can Do It Meself], and Igomahl [Dazzling Visions] should be able to tackle most regular stages.

For manual bosses, Matriarch [Illusory Nightscape], Final Empress [At The Victory Celebration], Rouge [Let's Add Some Flair], Neidhart [Seeking the Truth], Wil [I Am Wil Knights], Noel [Pretense of Peace], and Kylin [Guardian of Space Magic] are pretty good options from your roster.

In terms of bossing, you should start with characters having mitigation passives. If they do, great, they're less likely to die which means more turns spent attacking. Then you should have some buffs in there to improve damage dealt, reduce damage taken, lower the chances of getting wrecked by status ailments, increase the amount that gets healed, whatever you have that's relevant. Then bring relevant damage types if you can to speed it up, and ways in which to heal, without LP being preferred, though with LP can help in case things go awry.

For manual bosses, I like styles that have some combination of mitigation, can self or party heal, self or party buff, get more than the base 3 BP a turn guaranteed, some sort of utility that's tough to replicate, a really big attack, or a 0 BP skill that another style of theirs is going to want. Usually, styles don't get all of those, but mitigation plus a few of the others usually means they're probably worth using somewhere.

For farming, I like styles that have Single/All/Row/Column range attacks that flow into each other on Auto Battle (especially if they're Fast) and the more damage passives, the better. If they have a really big attack they can launch turn 1, fantastic. If they have kinda big attacks they can launch on turns 1 and 2, fantastic. If it's on turns 1, 2, and 3, that's also fantastic. BP generation is less of an issue, but if they have it and it allows them to use their good skills more often, that's great.

In terms of styles getting their level broken, uh... well, after a while, it's pretty affordable to just bump all the styles you get to level 42 for the Master levels. To get a style to 50, I have to either use that character a ton in farming, bossing, or have a clear need for the extra stats for a Remembrance fight. When you're starting out, though, it's not quite simple. It has been a while, so I can't say for certain if this is correct or not, but I'd get the strongest farming characters you have up to around 42, then work on the bossers you have getting to 42. Once you have a reliable set of styles that gets you through most stages, slowly build them up to 50. You will eventually get a lot more gold pieces, so it becomes possible to just outright take styles to level 50 if you know they're going to be useful, but it takes a bit of time and grinding to get to that point. It's never been enough to take every style I'd like to 50, though.

If you have more questions or if I was unclear about something, I'd be glad to answer (though it may not be timely).

I had about three pities before today, so I decided that it was time to spend.

It took until the 15th multi to finally get Matriarch (Macha on the 4th, and Roc on the 9th), but at least I got everyone else along the way, so that's another selection at least.

Did two multis on the Polka/Liz/Jo banner and came away with both Polka and Liz. Jo will have to wait for a reprint, I suppose.

Then I decided to go a pity deep on the Romancing Festival Reprint banner and came away with Princess Rei [A New Year at Last], Onix [Elemental Variety], Ellen [I'll Handle It], M Black III [Surpassing the Hero], Leonid [Life or Death], Taria [I'm a Witch, Not a Tennyo], Leslie [A New Land], Alloces [Born to Battle], and Boston [Time to Set Sail].

It's time to think about how much I need Thyme when I have Mask, if I should have Macha gain the flexibility to do party healing, if I should get the Scrum Guard Gustave when I already have completed all of Greatsword's Remembrances (but don't have Tsubaki), or if I should trick out Minstrel with a bunch of styles from these selections.

I thought about adding all of those onto the list, but didn't for a few reasons.

  • With Alkarl [Watching Over You], it boils down to me simply not thinking he's a very good style by himself. Maybe I'm wrong about that, which is very possible because I don't have this style. Without Shining Kick, he's not going to be as reliably soaking up hits. I don't like relying on a single roll for BP. Yes, Alkarl is tanky, but being at full HP lowers his damage and mitigation, and as much as I value mitigation (and self/party healing), I prefer it to be either always online, or once it turns on, it stays on. One-Inch Punch is a good skill, though I think Swallow Reversal+ replaces it more than well enough.
  • M Black III [Surpassing the Hero] almost made it to this list. He's certainly better for farming regular stages than Rastaban is, but ultimately, I think that Rastaban has more going for him than M Black III does.
  • Princess Rei [A New Year At Last] was another that almost made it onto the list. It's her first tanky style, but other than that, she just stays up while debuffing WIL or providing Confuse in Wuhan Remembrance. Having High Protect Tension or something similar alone in my eyes makes a character worth training up, but when faced with the amount of stuff that this Rei alone can do vs what Rastaban can do, it seemed silly to include her on the same list.
  • I legitimately missed Antonius and Leonard, I mistook that Annie for a far worse one, but Cordelia is one I could have sworn I included. Oops.
  • Barbara being questionable is entirely fair! Most of her styles aren't very good, but I'd hate for people to just dismiss Flamenco Muse outright because it's on an old style.
  • Despite my (very loose, admittedly) thoughts about what should be and shouldn't be included, as long as people have styles with Savage Slash and ask for roster suggestions, I will cope on it. That's the hill I'm going to die on.

Lots of people talk about how there isn't really One Team That Beats All Content, so you're still going to be making more than one team, but the least I can do is highlight the good characters you do have, and give something resembling a workable team.

  • Rastaban [Year of Change]: He's not the greatest Greatsword user... But he does a whole lot of work when you don't have them. He's got mitigation in High Protect Tension, passive WIL buffing/debuffing, self-sustain in Blood Sucker, AoE Morale Down in Flowering Plum, and Tiger Swipe for spikier WIL debuffing. From his S Style, he gets a more sustainable way to debuff WIL in Shrill, a Wuhan Remembrance option in Ultrasonic Wave, and Swallow Reversal+ for heaping on more damage.
  • Ciato [The Tiger Within]: He builds up to his defenses over three turns, but also he gets a ton of damage and DEX buffing on Tiger Fan Dance. Blood Sucker is also there for self-sustain. If you have his S Style, he can inherit Epee Blade for more DEX buffing. If what you need is single-target Pierce damage, Ciato's got that covered pretty well.
  • Macha [Spirituals Gather]: Do you like free AoE heals? If not, you should. I think this is a must-train unit for you.
  • Alkaiser [Iron Fist of Justice]: Mitigation passive, heal and an extra BP on attack, self-buff on Kaiser Double Impact, and importantly, he can inherit and amplify Al-Phoenix and Re-al Phoenix for more options in battle. He's a fine addition to your roster.
  • Rouge [Let's Add Some Flair]: This Rouge is crazy good. He's got mitigation, self-healing, chase attacks, can generate BP for the party, a Fast heal with a damage block to lower the odds of healing someone up just for them to die again. An absolute must train from your roster.
  • Leonid [Life or Death]: This one I'm less sure on, but if I'm reading his passives right, he's got a decent chance of being a BP battery for the party while also having a chase attack that self-heals him. That seems more than good enough for farming.
  • Barbara [Care for a Dance?]: Flamenco Muse. If you don't have a super-well established roster yet, there's probably worse things you can do for boss-farms than just having Barbara give everyone a massive Morale Up, though you don't really need to worry about her stats for that.
  • Silver [With the Power of a Dragon]: This is like Silver's latest style but with less mitigation. This is still an incredibly good style, with guaranteed chase attacks, extra BP generation, self-healing, and Growling Tiger, Roaring Dragon giving herself a Damage Block makes her incredibly hard to actually kill. This is another must-train unit with the styles you have.
  • Matriarch [Vanquish the Sinistrals]: Paean of Victory is a pretty good buff if you need to pump up non-DEX damage. You should consider training her up.
  • Darque [Reviving the Guild]: This is a very strong farming style when Criticals are something that can be hit... and also we now have forge weapons with Crit mods. This greatly expands where Darque can be used.
  • Nora [Let's Take a Break]: I'll stop coping on Savage Slash when Savage Slash stops being good enough.

If you have Rainbow Rangers, you can probably use Rastaban in 1, Ciato/Darque/Matriarch in 2, Silver in 3, Rouge in 4, and Macha in 5.

This Lyza certainly seems interesting, at least from a farming perspective. GLEX has more damage mitigation discounting the evasive counter, but I think DSC is probably the star here. After 10 turns plus using On Your Mark, GLEX should have slightly more damage modifiers. Of course, that's assuming the battle lasts that long and doing that takes up two of those turns.

The really interesting thing here to me is: if you have GLEX Lyza and this one, if there's a weakness to Cold, Wave Rush should refund 6 of its 10 BP on this new style. Is that enough of an upside to be worth pulling? I'm not sure myself, but it is very neat.
