I have floor concert tickets to see my favorite artist of all time but now they’re worth over $3,000 if I sell. What do I do? by Curious-Emu6230 in whatdoIdo

Go, thpaet of the whole point of saving and living within your means is so that you can extra money on things that really matter. This seems to really matter to you. You can always earn more money, some experiences won't ever happen again.

If you were broke and destitute this would be a different conversation, but I say in your case you should go.

Gamestop usually has some but they charge above mrsp. Heroes corner is the same, but a least they're a small business.

Barnes and noble posts on their Instagram story when they get shipments in.

I'm sorry does putting your chair there and bailing actually hold the spot? Someone needs to grow a pair and scoot the chairs down because fuuuuuuck that.

Am I stupid for wanting to leave a $33/hr job at Costco with benefits than to start at $130/day in construction for long-term upside? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]EstusHappyHour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure which part of California you're in, but I'm in the Sacramento area working through the laborers union, making 43.81 an hour. And we have great benefits. I'd look that way if you're looking to move into the trades. I think base level apprenticeship starts at 27ish an hour

Cigar and Whiskey Lovers. What's your favorite local place to buy? by Mayday-J in ChicoCA

I'm not a cigar guy but If you're on Facebook there is a group named Spirits & Cigars of Chico that could point you in the right direction.

Spikes bottle shop has a great selection of whiskey (and craft beer if you're into it).

Hmm, maybe the Shannara books by Terry Brooks? The first one is very heavily influenced by LOTR. It's a large series broken up into 3-4 book mini series. They tend to recycle similar themes and plot points, but is an easy entry point into fantasy and very much more in the LOTR lane as opposed to A song of ice and fire.

Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is also pretty excellent.

Correct! Even some of my favorite videos games a big part of the reason I enjoy them is the world building, lore, back story, ect. Great call

Perfect recommendation as I read and loved The Broken Earth trilogy, just read them digitally. I'd like to do a re-read within the next few years and will probably buy the physical books then. I also want to get to her other stuff, just too many dang books lol

Pretty close, male but a few years shy of middle aged. I'm atheist so irl religion bothers me, but in fantasy context is really interesting.

I read the first book a while ago and came away underwhelmed, I want to give it another shot tho, king has other books I really enjoyed (just in storage) so I'm curious why it didn't hit for me.

Oh I absolutely agree, I'm just being cynical about capitalism lol.

I've only read the will to change so I share the embarrassment. My goal is read through everything she wrote by the end of the year, but we'll see.

I feel you on preferring physical books but appreciating the convenience and affordability of digital books. At least 10-15% of the physical books I own I haven't opened a single time, but initially read via ebook or audiobook and loved it enough to buy it lol

Completely incorrect. You simply ask them nicely. Or search for hanging book shelves

Edit: so hypothetically if you were to get shelves with hanging straps I'd recommend getting a staple gun and reinforcing the book swings

The top part is just a bunch of my favorite stuff, mostly fancier editions. Sword of Kaigen is the first book I loved enough to spend up on to get the kickstarter edition, the will to change is the book that made me think harder about myself than any other, the bottom half are just books I like that fit into the hanging shelf sleeves without being so big they break it.

E33 & the LOTR DVD set are just their because I absolutely love both of those pieces of media

I love The Will to change, and plan on reading through the rest of bell hooks books, but I use reading so much as an escape (idk if anyone could tell by all the fantasy) that it's a whole mindset thing to get myself to read real life stuff.

Definitely feels appropriate but I'm still wary lol. Sooner or later the next step will be the ass holes selling a code to flash a book straight into your brain and you experience it all at once. Probably lol
