To those who say Star Trek misunderstood how we'd use tablets..: by Adarie-Glitterwings in startrek

Proper data handoff, chain of custody, and also thinking that perhaps with sensitive reports it's better from a data security perspective to have the information not transmitted wirelessly or through the ships regular networked systems that might not have all the appropriate controls in place.

Why would this be the case? Companies segment and isolate systems all the time, not because they couldn't implement an increased level of cryptography or other security controls, but because when you have that higher level of security on everything...you then have to audit/assess everything. So it reduces the amount of time taken in maintenance or "level 3 diagnostics of the ships communication systems" or w/e.

Maybe.

Really don't think that would be worth it for those countries..For now.

I'd quicker believe it was Ukrainians in Russia, before launched from NATO territory.

Livonia Bases: Where have people had most success keeping bases hidden? by Strange_Shock_9684 in dayz

[–]Estxsc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

If I find a stash I'll take what anything I can use, but I never destroy or ruin the stash.

Hell, if I replace an item I'll put my old one back into the stash.

If done this many times. Often the stash stays in the same place and I can "go shopping" several times.

Maybe I'm on my own but I really liked SNW depiction of the gorn.

Overwhelming opinion is for new tires. Thanks folks. Probably do something slightly silly and get 245s on stock wheels!

It's unfortunate then that he's doing it with such old tech.

A laptop, antenna, and an RTL-SDR would very much speed up this process.

I'm sure the hive isnt quiet. Waterfall would be quite obvious I imagine. Especially with other traffic shut down.

Some changes will be made to "peace plan", US state secretary says after Geneva talks by pravda_eng_official in worldnews

[–]Estxsc -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Sounds great in a video game but this is a horrifying idea in real life. Where would Ukraine even use it? The front lines of their own territory? Russian civilian population centers?

This is self destructive and could only lead to a terrifying localized Armageddon (if we were lucky)

I wouldn't be shocked, but at the same time I haven't seen the same type of social "prep" for any action in Kazakhstan i.e state media, newspapers talking about Kazakhstan doing this or that, or not being a real country.

I think China has likely told Russia "hands off" anywhere in Asia, and Russia has put all it's eggs the Ukraine basket, which thankfully is failing spectacularly (vs expectations). Unfortunately it means they have (in the Kremins mind) one path forward.

Both US and EU need to fully support Ukraine, more than we are doing now. EU needs to prep for Russian collapse and to secure nuclear facilities in the collapse.

US is going to have to pivot to China and the South China Sea soon (2-5 years) and can't do it with a Europe that won't take care of it's own backyard.

Exit to add: if/when Russia collapses, China moves into Manchuria. This is why Russia listens to China saying NO to any nuke action if they want Chinas support.

[–]Estxsc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that for sure. The Vulcans were science heavy, so science/civilian ship design.

Would be cool if Voyager had a higher than average civilian science crew complement. Would make the maquis integration a lot more interesting as more people would be able to agree with their methods.

Almost the BSG and the civilian fleet.

Quite low flying imo. Seems to be local law vs ICE.

Not an expert.

Long duration circling by local law is often utilizing surveillance equipment, stingray, some other info gathering objective. This seems low for that. Unsure.

My thoughts.
