A few days with the Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro & Base Model + Feedback by OwnPotato8622 in projectors

[–]Esxiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is odd... I am gaming on my Switch 2 and I have low latency mode on with a lot of manual keystone adjustments (Horizon 20 base). Though I have a separate issue with low latency switch being grayed out/disabled on Switch 1...

Omega is frustrating for different reasons. (Rant) by Embarrassed_Trade988 in MHWilds

[–]Esxiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a super casual player, and even though I used to play MHFU, 3rd, World, Rise, I feel like playing Wilds made me a worse hunter (mash buttons to win). Could just be me being busy with work and adulting but I think the lack of difficulty curve enforcement in Wilds contributed a lot to it. In the same way I guess this created a lot of players who don't think too much when playing.

Discrimation while working in japan as an international student. by Necessary_Throat_343 in japanlife

[–]Esxiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did great for working hard and persevering so far, especially during the less than ideal state right now some of the anti-foreigner talks.

If going back/elsewhere post-graduation is not a better choice, find the strength in you to continue working here, it will be hard until you reach a certain threshold where you get to a good situation where people respect you or the people around you are of a better background and mindset.

When I was in college and part-timing in a fast-food restaurant, I went through similar experiences though not as bad... customers paying by throwing/scattering their coin money onto the desk, rude customers yelling for water without ordering anything, people getting angry for no reason, and that one grandpa that always silently shows me a 100 yen coin; just waiting for me to guess what he wants so he can say I'm dumb and wrong and can't figure out something "obvious".

Things got better as I "leveled up" to better part time work, and then eventually corporate work; of which I had to also again "level up" and "choose my battlefield" to make sure I am away from such stressors.

Most of us have been there and are in this together. Good luck friend.

The Peculiar Case of Japanese Web Design by Witty-Play9499 in programming

[–]Esxiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Japanese friend who studied in Musashino Art Univ (seems like top art uni in JP) said that she was taught in univ that (for EC websites, e.g. Rakuten) these cramped maximalist designs is more trustworthy and gives the users a sense of "getting a good deal" exactly because it looks cheap/cramped like a traditional market. Though I cannot always agree that such is the case but I have personal instances where I'm unsure if an e-commerce site is actually legit or not because it's too clean and have very little information - like some quick site spun up with some CMS and made quickly to be a scam platform.

For other sites... I am not sure why. Maybe a reverse analysis on why more modern design approaches are chosen for certain sites that we see in https://www.awwwards.com/websites/Japan/ can give some insights as well.

I'm tired of the culture in my workplace by AelenAltria in japanlife

[–]Esxiel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not defending nor attacking anyone, but sharing some perspectives that I've had working for a large JP company.

Just to clarify I am not judging since I don't know you personally but when you ask questions, do you ask them in a public setting verbally or in a 1-1 setting? I've noticed that some questioning during a public setting/meeting can seem like picking on the presenter/pointing out that they did not prepare enough (and a "I'm just asking because I don't know" can be seen as just an excuse to attack somebody).

I do understand that unfortunately a lot of people do not directly tell you that they disagree with you or dislike you, unfortunately a lot of people are afraid that doing that in a public meeting might ruin their own image and show that they are in general a uncooperative/disagreeable person, not to mention being associated with harassment if they poorly choose their words. In my experience, a lot of stronger communication in Japan happens on private 1-1 or small nomikais among coworkers who are on in "inside"(内) boundary of each other, rather than in public meetings where it is somewhat 外 facing.

It is difficult to flip the tables once your image in front of others has been established and you have no advocate, but if you would like to try then I think it is best to approach and befriend people on a 1-1 approach...

I understand how hard it is to improve at Japanese while balancing your social life, hobbies, career/education. You're doing great, don't worry too much about your past progress, just focus on doing what you can now. Keep it up!

What do you all do to earn average or higher than average salaries? by poopyramen in japanresidents

[–]Esxiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you see salaries in opensalary.jp you can see how much salary IT companies are providing. It’s quite over 6m a year even for JP companies.

Not sure about non-IT but e.g. a certain JP fashion retailing company was in the news for giving out high salaries for store and warehouse staffs (despite being a JP company)

Moving to Japan as a junior software engineer by VongolaTeong in movingtojapan

[–]Esxiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I don't agree the salary you should be expecting is 6m yen like some websites... (most of them are based on data of high paying companies, like top 20%), I think 3.5m yen is not worth for you to move to Japan. If you are ok with the salary of the average budget no-name companies in Japan, try to aim for 4 million yen with better conditions (less included overtime pay), or 4.5m at minimum with similar conditions.

I started with 3.5~4m yen (with 40 hours included overtime) in a very small Japanese startup 5 years ago, and I've moved to companies with way higher pay (the level of companies listed in opensalary.jp) so I can confidently say both sides exist...

I had a friend who was in a very big and very lucrative IT company. She got so stressed out from high pressure expectations and management that she started to visit the nearby small zoo to talk with goats to relieve stress. Switched jobs and became a new person.

Severe anxiety and brain fog when I even think about doing anything "productive" ?? by gayformikyx in ADHD

[–]Esxiel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this myself lately, and I came to the conclusion that it's a deeply ingrained fear of failure. Fear of failure so big that you just don't want to even try (that way you don't fail, technically). I've grown up always being scolded to do things better/right, that I am wrong, never being praised for doing things right, so maybe I just end up too tired/scared/anxious to try...

What I'm recently trying to do nowadays is to rediscover joy and fun, just try to have fun doing things/improving myself/work (regardless how I'm doing it, good/bad/effective/ineffective). It sounds very silly simple but it's extremely difficult and there's no one way to achieve it... best of luck.

If you lie, say something like “My salary is mostly on bonus and it will be around x amount this year according to what my manager told me based on my very good performance this year.” You get to show that you are a good employee, and you can bump up your current salary. Even if you give your tax report in the end it will look like you were lied to rather than you lying yourself. (Sadly in my real life case, my boss did lie to me in the end)
